Do you have a recommended AMP size for the rotary hammer for taking up the thin set?

It’s okey to remove thinset from existing hardie backer boards.
@thinsetremovalbit8241
@thinsetremovalbit8241 Жыл бұрын
It's probably easier and faster to just replace the hardiebacker. The board will probably not hold up well to scraping.

When my tile was installed in a new home the installer first screwed down cement backerboard to the subfloor and then installed the tile. Well, after 15 years some of the tile is coming loose so I want to replace the floor myself. I see you are removing the thinset from concrete, would this tool also be appropriate for removing the thinset from cement backerboard?
@thinsetremovalbit8241
@thinsetremovalbit8241 2 жыл бұрын
No will not work for that...it's best to remove the backerboard and replace then re-tile

Personal preference, some prefer the thinner blade of this scraper, also it's much longer so not leaning over as much, especially helpful for larger jobs

Would you recommend the 6" floor scraper or 6" chisel bit for thinset removal?
@thinsetremovalbit8241
@thinsetremovalbit8241 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer the solid piece chisel. Downside is it is shorter so if you have back problems the scraper is longer and allows you to be more upright. But the scraper assembly has more parts and is less reliable than the solid bit. However we warranty everything so you're covered either way

Would you recommend SDS plus or SDS Max for tile and then set removal I'm using the hammer and chisel method and get paid by the job now so the faster I can do it the better
@rodytebcherani
@rodytebcherani 3 жыл бұрын
SDS Max will have wider scrapers available but also quite a bit more expensive...usually $400+ for a decent SDS Max rotary/demo hammer. While you can get an SDS Plus rotary hammer for around $100. SDS max hammer also will be quite a bit heavier.. So comes down to personal choice and budget

Is the chisel bit supposed to be able to turn 360° after you tighten down the spring I thought it was supposed to lock it in place so it couldn't turn 360° but still go back and forth
@thinsetremovalbit8241

Yes the chisel can still turn 360 if you try spinning it, but it shouldn't cause an issue while you're using it.

@thinsetremovalbit8241

Sorry don't have any videos on that type of subfloor. Yes depending on the condition of the plywood it could get ugly. Might be better off using a grinder with a dust shroud for that: www.amazon.com/dp/B0745LQQX8?ref=myi_title_dp

How powerful of a hammer do you need? Would one with 10 joules of impact energy be enough?
@thinsetremovalbit8241
@thinsetremovalbit8241 5 жыл бұрын
MW usually the power is listed in AMPs or Watts. 10 AMPs should be fine for most applications. In this video we were using a lower powered SDS Max rotary hammer. For example an SDS Max Demo Hammer generally has much more power,but this rotary hammer still did the job
