I used to have this very antenna with the uhf extension, and a super high gain 12 foot boom behemoth prior to it. After I moved a few years back, I decided to put up another antenna to save some bucks again. Where I live currently is only a block away from my old location, same elevation, but with a lot more close-up trees between me and the tv stations which are 63 miles away. I did quite a bit of research, and after some consideration, I strayed from my old go to Channel Master for a little known brand. What I got was a Range Xperts XPS-1500. Since I am older and retired now, I wanted to mount for convenience rather than performance so I could maintain it without assistance. So, the XPS was mount 15 ft. above ground vs 30+ ft for the Pro, with a similar length cable run of approximately 50ft. I was able to pick every single channel w/o a mast mount amp like I used to have. I was amazed because two of the channels actually had switched to low power. I did finally opt for an amplifier due to the local ABC being reduced to a lower power signal for stability. However, despite the extra tree foliage, and mount height challenge, the XPS really shined above the Pro in my circumstance.

We use these daily in New England and never get less than 75 channels clear and locked on, and in some areas we achieve as many as 90... powerful when combined with switchable pre-amp and is built stronger than the 3018 and has a lower profile. I see no reason to go to the bulky and thinner cm-3018. Thanks for watching.

I like the looks and design of this tv antenna, however, why not simply discard the matching transformer use and now go into the newer tap in antenna connections these other tv antennas use. All you have to do is just make your connector, put lithium greese inside whare the center conductor is at, screw it into the tap in port, heat shrink the connection to the tap in port to seal out moisture, then slip your weather boot over both the heat shrink and tap in connection, and two final parts left, take plumbers goop put it over top the weather boot, again to seal out moisture, then drip loop your cable, again making sure that moisture will drip away from the connection. By doing all this prepreation, your pictures and sound quility will last you forever without any problems whatsoever. Wineguard tv antenna should put in the tap in port which is a much better set up than a matching transformer, I should think. Don't get me wrong, all my tv antennas have matching transformers on them on a 30 ft tower, however times have changed, and newer inventions, improvements have came on the scene.

I Upgraded to this Antenna from the Channel Master STEALTHtenna and now we get around 96 Channel's with it Split between two TV'S using a Powered Splitter and I've gotta say the build quality of both Antenna's are great and both Antenna's especially the Pro Model came very well packaged. Channel Master knows what they are doing with these Antenna's but the Pro Model is definitely built better than the STEALTHtenna and it will get you more Channels especially when compared to the STEALTHtenna because the Pro Model is just a larger Antenna with more Gain and it's Upgradable for even more Gain. What I like about both of the Antenna's is they are simple and they don't have any moving parts on them so if it's bad Weather the Signal doesn't mess up like on most Antenna's especially larger Antenna's which tend to have moving parts. I'm also able to get Trash 6ABC with the Pro Model without the Upgradable attachment option I was also able to get 6ABC with the STEALTHtenna but that's because I'm not that far from Philadelphia I'm in New Jersey so if your far away from Philadelphia you might not get 6ABC with either of these Antenna's or you might have to get an Amplifier so just keep that in mind. Overall both Antenna's especially the Pro Model feels like it will last in Weather for Years over even forever as soon as I took it out of the box I was wowed by the quality so I definitely recommend Channel Master Antenna's.

Tie wraps are fine, however, as time goes by, they get brittle and fall apart due to being out in the elements and ultraviolet rays of the sun. Here's what I do. I drill a hole in the mast closest to the antenna tap in port and a hole at tte end or leave it undrilled and thread the RG 6 cable from the top down to the exit hole on both masts supporting bot tv antennas. From there, take yiur cable drip loop it then make yiur connector and use either lithium grees or diaelectric greese after the weather boot was first put on the cable, then heat shrink to go over the connector to insure no moisture will get into the connector at all. Then with just a little bit of rtv silicone slip the weather boot over the connector as it has already been screwed into the tap in connection of the tv antenna. This way your assured no moisture won't get into the connection and your pictures will be clean and clear forevermore. Now, the exit cables at the end of the mast can be dressed up neatly and respectfully on the outside using plastic anchors and screws with clamps to hold the RG 6 cable into place securely with approprately used drip loops and going into the system head ends recievers, processor's, and combiners. Drilling the hole closest to the tap in port of the tv antenna and threading the cable inside the mast provides a much neater, instellation and keeps the cable from whipping around in high speed winds that can and does indeed occure. Besides, as written, makes a much neater instellation, much better looking system head end.

Thanks for your input, and I'm glad your system works to everyone's satisfaction. But after installing and as you can see, I still do it every day, for 37 years now, I think I have it down and my son and I never leave a customer dis-satisfied and our work holds up for many years. Ultraviolet light is what degrades only white cable ties and we use quality solid black and they last. Also, my thought would be that antenna pipe rusts over time, especially near salt water and drilling holes into it, in my opinion would compromise it's strength. I regard your opinion though and am sure you do good work. Hope you subscribe.....please.

Before risking your life to install an antenna on your roof, make SURE that's the ONLY place you can get the best signal. In most cases, if you take the time with a signal meter, you can find solid signals just as good at at a lower elevation. One of my most popular stations is 70 mi. away. I tried it up 30 ft and had no results. I was going to give up because I have a lot of tree blockage but I got a signal meter and a small antenna and just walked around my back yard and found a solid signal in one spot only 8 ft. above the ground. I put the antenna there and It's been the perfect location for years. Tryl lower levels first before risking your life. You'll be surprised.

@stevestv3852 9 ай бұрын
If you are unsure at heights, please pay a professional TV antenna installer such as me. Now Rick thanks for watching and I'm glad your antenna install worked out for you. But after 37 years in the business, I will disagree with your ground installation theory, you got lucky. Antenna should always be installed at the highest point on the house, any attempt to lower it so it is not too visible, only cuts your signal strength and the antennas reception abilities. In New England where I operate, I consistently get 70 to 80 channels for each and every customer. I know of no customer that would contend with it planted in the yard. Again, I respect your input and please subscribe for more videos. Thank you.
@RickPaquin

I agree with New England. I used to live there and in western Mass our antenna was 30 ft above our 3 story house to get decent UHF reception. New England IS a hilly terrain and height matters with most areas there. But for many other areas of the U.S. it depends on the terrain and your surroundings. If you have no hills or mountains, but massive 90 ft. pine trees all around your home, like me, your real choice is to erect a tower to get above the trees, which is VERY expensive to install and maintain, or you can try to find a location at a lower level, maybe through a gap in the trees and find a decent signal that way, which is often highly effective and more practical. I almost gave up trying to receive a station 70 mi. south using a 30 ft antenna until I attached a bowtie to a signal meter and just walked around with it. I finally found a low but rock solid signal in ONE certain spot on my elevated deck. I put the antenna there where it's worked perfectly for. years. No, I sure don't like it tying up the deck, but putting up a huge tower is ugly and just not an option. My only point is not to assume height is always your only answer, but of course in New England, it may be! @@stevestv3852

That was in the early seventies. He and I together could dig the hole, pour the concrete, erect a 50' tower, install a rotor, a VHF, and a UHF antenna and run coax in the house in under 7 hours. Total. Of course, we had to split that time into two days to let the concrete set for 24 hours. Once the tower was erect, it didn't take much more than 30 minutes to climb, pull up a UHF antenna (mounted on a mast) and install it.
