did yall prices come way down? last i calculated prices it was near $20k just for the AEM products. that didn't count the driveline or batteries. talking with other ev enthusiasts i was told the only thing they would get from AEM for ev is their dash as it was the best option available

Thing would get real interesting if you could configure the format in which the CAN-bus message are sent. That way you could use the BMS to make a replacement battery for an existing EV

Awesome products! I’ve used the VCU200, VCU 300, the AEM BMS, PDU, and their Dash. In my opinion this VCU is best ready to go off the shelf product for full control and a near OEM driving experience. Looking forward to getting a VCU275 soon!

MOAR! :D Soo, are you able to add an LSD to that drive unit? Kinda surprised they don't have that right out of the box.
@brianb-p6586 Жыл бұрын
EVs generally don't have LSD, even as an option. They depend on brake-based traction control, other than the few which have separate left and right motors and thus no differential at all. There are a few EVs for which aftermarket LSDs are available... generally Quaife units for Tesla drive units, which are used only in these conversions, not in Tesla cars.

Great video to start the safety basics. The one thing to remember is the battery cannot not be turned off, it is like working in live circuit panel with far more current. Your typical starter cable is a lightbulb filament to a big battery. When I worked for a company with a DC power division, we had an electrician killed by slipping and dropping a tool into a phone company central office battery, what killed him was the vaporized metal from the short.
@aemev45872 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing that and yes, high voltage can be dangerous, which is why we stress the safety concerns. Once you are aware of these though, the systems are much more elegant and easier to work on than ICE vehicles. While you can break the connection to the HV components, the batteries are, as you stated, still active, and proper protection and shielding of the terminals are very important.

Thank you! We will be moving into specific examples in this series, so please hit the notifications so you know when we add new videos. Good eye. That vehicle has two sets of six battery modules wired in series to make two individual packs, which are then wired in parallel (2P 6S 18S). That is why it requires two master cutoff switches, one for each set of modules.

@@aemev4587 thank you....if you could cover the degree of risk of batteries gassing off in an enclosed garage...I assume it is less toxic than an ICE vehicle in an enclosed garage...but I'm not sure...
@aemev45872 жыл бұрын
@@gattaca5911 The batteries are sealed and will not gas off under any normal circumstances. The obvious danger is during charging, where they can overheat and catch fire if they are not properly monitored during the charging process, which is why a BMS is so critical, and of course, a quality charging system at home.

I wish I could dump all that weight though and just go with wheel motors. Subscribing and following with great interest - I think there's a lot of us who prefer this route over a Rivian or Cybertruck. Very glad to see this pop up in my page and you may just have a customer.
