I should say this isn't really a how-to, partly because it's so easy, and partly because I'm not really confident giving out electrical advice 😂 but it's an FYI that these exist and every reefer should have one if they have a car!

I love the light in theory, but I struggle to recommend it full heartedly because the fan is quite loud. This tank is in a room where it doesn't bother anyone but I wouldn't be able to stand it in a busier living area! It's a shame as other the light is great!

Beautiful tank..Quick question .. The red on the sand , would that be Cyano starting to build up ? I have the same red on my soft coral tank. I'm thinking about treating it before it gets to the top of my sand bed ..If it's Cyano.
@so_so_reef5 ай бұрын
You mean between the sand and front glass? This is really normal to have, I don't think I've seen a mature tank without it. It's not necessarily cyano, it could be beneficial bacteria, like purple non sulphur bacteria. Every now and again I might scrap it off but in general it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't treat for it.

I’m hesitant on starting a saltwater tank, do you have any advice on what to look out for and what pay attention to when first cycling a tank?
@so_so_reef5 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, that's such a big question! My advice would be to use live rock if you can. I set this tank up with live rock and added corals and fish within a few days. I also included a bit of cycled biomedia from another tank. That meant it was cycled essentially straight away. I obviously checked there was no ammonia or nitrites before adding livestock. But other tanks I've done the classic cycle and the only thing you can do is test frequently, go slow, try and get a bit of live rock in there if you're using dry. Keep your lights off for the cycle. You should definitely give it a go. Best of luck!

What are your par meters and how do you control your algae?
@so_so_reef5 ай бұрын
I will double check but I think it's about 100 on the sand bed maybe 250 at the top? But will confirm. I just rip the macro out when it gets too big.

are you using np k7 because of the anemone ? I am planning to get the k7 mini so i'm open to suggestion
@so_so_reef5 ай бұрын
The tank came with a light that I used for about 6 months without issue. It grew coral for sure. After I added the anemone it was always stretching for more light so I decided to get something more powerful. The K7 is very powerful - at 100% it gave me 4000 PAR at the surface on this small tank! I like the light, the only criticism is that I think the fans are quite loud. Others have said the fan noise is not that bad, so maybe I got an especially noisy one.
@ccn50655 ай бұрын
@@so_so_reef Thank you for the reply ! I think i will go with the k7 mini. Its exterior will probably fit much better than the k7 on my 20gal cube.

Let us know what you decide as a battery back up. I am in the UK and have been thinking hard about the possibility of power cuts especially as we move on to so called 're-newable' energy. I use kalk and when my pH gets too high I dose white vineger (,CH3COOH) very slowly, it drops pH quite quickly.
