When compressing the base we really don’t hear you talking about attack is how much, release , ratio , threshold etc unlike on drums you were mentioning

This isn't electric guitar compression, it's farting on the signal. The compressor in that desk is extremely weak.

I always though you were supposed to set your gain and then leave it. He’s mixing on the gain knobs. It’s going to effect the in ears monitors and drive the musicians crazy

A decent overview on how to EQ drums, but please... Learn proper gain staging. Set your preamps, then start moving your faders up to the levels you want. Not starting at unity and adjusting volume with the gain. That is backwards gain staging. Then set all your drum faders to a DCA group, so you can bring them in and out as a whole. Which will be even more accurate than eyeballing the sliders up to unity as well.

The input signal level should initially be around -18 dB. If this is not the case, then all further configuration is not correct. You need to build the input signal level at -18 dB, and only then raise the volume fader. And you do the opposite. Therefore, the compressor settings are too hard.

So I was looking for good content I could expand my knowledge on and checked out what AI would say, this is what it concluded: "Unfortunately, I am not aware of any free audio mixing master classes that are on the same level as the ones provided by Ellis Pro Media. Academy AV by Ellis Pro Media offers a comprehensive and professional training program that covers all aspects of audio production, mixing, and mastering. While there are some free resources available online that can help you improve your mixing and mastering skills, they may not provide the same level of in-depth knowledge and practical training as a comprehensive course like Academy AV."

Hey bro,, I really appreciate your videos… I will say- U ARE THE FIRST OUT OF MANY MANY IVE WATCHED THAT IVE SEEN USE THE GAIN in the Dynamics/Compressor(at the 3:20min mark) please please explain why? I’m new to sound engineering and I’ve wondered what it is used for. I’ve attempted to use it kind of like a back up gain so that the MAIN gain doesn’t peak on each channel. Again, please explain. Thx 🙏🏼

This is extremely helpful for me starting to mix worship. The drums at this church have only 3 mics (kick, snare, mono overhead) but your discussion of toms and fundamental freqs are great.
