The previous company I worked with, they have an iOS app but they want to use Flutter for both Android and iOS. So I tried my best to create the app without changing the UI for iOS, which is a pain ... I do prefer just share the UI.

I am working as an IT engineer here in Japan. I think there is one more reason why the IT is bad. It's the management style. The old-style management system treats IT engineers like contract workers: they should do as they're told, and they couldn't and shouldn't reject any request. Adding new features every month and no one maintains the previous ones. Sometimes, even the startup companies' upper managements have this style.

As I dive deeper into all the different fields of software, I appreciate more and more the ridiculous quality of everything I previously took for granted. For example, Nintendo games weren't a huge global hit for no reason. There was a lot of technical talent there. Japanese engineers are also doing a lot of cutting-edge open-source AI work, from what I have seen. But really, in general, I find myself appreciating masters of their craft more and more recently. And I think "mastery of a craft" is quite central to Japanese culture in general. So it seems natural for it to be the same in software.

do you heard about compose multi platform😌
@alexanderkoo2419Ай бұрын
Agreed on productivity. Just to add from an engineering manager standpoint, maintaining two code bases for native, means two teams. IME, very few mobile devs know more than one platform well. Two separate mobile teams is really not possible for small to mid projects. For small projects that need web and mobile, React Native can make sense . For jobs, depends on the size co, you're applying to. Many large co's will go native. I don't see newer small to mid projects going native, unless they're simply accepting not being on both stores. In some countries where it's almost all Android, it's possible. My two cents. good luck to all the devs.
@alexanderkoo2419Ай бұрын
I run engineering teams and would love to hire Japanese engineers but probably only younger ones. Most of my teams work for startups and the philosophy has to be "move fast and break things" which is inherently opposite to Japanese style engineering principles. But yes, based on writing detailed, bug free, idiomatic code, I would think Japanese engineers would excel and yes, not knowing English is an enormous disadvantage which is why most of my teams are from countries that are relatively good at English. I wish you great success since Japan is my home and I wish I could employ more Japanese engineers. Incidentally a good 1/3 of my guys are flutter devs which is all we use for mobile.

I should have mentioned about the Compose multi platform. It’s the kotlin framework for making other platform UI such as iOS. But even there is, it’s still alpha for iOS and it can’t stand without writing native code basically , I heard.

Beta released for iOS a couple days back with the release of Kotlin 2.0 and k2 compiler.

How traditional is the IT job market in Japan, do they care about a CS degree? Or do you think thy're more leaning towards experience like in the west? Thanks for the video btw
@shashankinjapanАй бұрын
Well Not Completely Sure . But I have attended few dev events in osaka and talked to few experienced devs . they either did Coding Bootcamps or had Degree to showcase their skills . So I think it's kinda mandatory for Japanese IT Company on other hand if that's a Foreign based company in japan than it's not that important I think

Not sure how the programmer market is in Japan right now, but in the US and Europe, there have been massive layoffs from big tech companies and it's basically impossible to find a job as a junior or even senior. The market is oversaturated and there's not a lot of opportunities to get started. Hopefully things are better over there.
