I worked in three Mills from 1968 until I was made redundant (cheap imports) in 1999,Spent over 16 years at the great Black Dyke Mills in Queensbury, the noise was very loud hense the constant ringing in the ears, Sadly the vast majority of these great Mills have disappeared, Was in a charity shop a few years back and they were selling a shuttle for & 3.99, people didn't know what it was, The majority of black Dyke Mills is still standing as I believe it is grade 2 listed, Happy days,,

Love it! I used to work in a micro mill here in the US. We used Dornier rapier looms from the 1970s, not as romantic as the looms youre weaving on but still beautiful machines. If you have any interest in filming more in-depth videos I would love to see them. Every little detail within the weaving process fascinates me, particularly with machines that im not familiar with.

hello once again i am imprest wit what you did by starting a mill up all on your own ...did you have any connection with a mill before you started...my mother and father worked in the mill so thats how i got started i used to go with my father sometimes on a saterday morning i loved all the machines...so when i started working there it was seconed nature.. i started in the warping then winding twisting doubling and in my coffe break i used to go stand with my mother who was a weaver and thats how i got in to weaving i thaught it was wonderful very arty ..i have always been intersted in arts and craft i do painting i have done tapastries... modeling i will have a go at anything...you say yuu go round industial museums i like those places there is one or two in halifax i have been to that one in the peece hall they have a loom in that one..it was very interesting..i hve been to one in leeds that was full of looms.. did you read books to get started you cant just build a loom like that without some knowhow...where do you go to show your pattens round the markets and places like that where they sell cloth...when do you think you will be coming to halifax agan ...anyway enjoy the rest off the weekend

hello there bernard here and thank you for the email ....i dont really just want to talk i talk to much anyway lol.. i would love to look around your factory and get a feel of the place fist hand but i am afraid it would take to long to get there and then get back ...i wish you was nearer but you are not so i will have to just keep watching your vidios... i have not gone far since the covid i used to travel to the coast and harrogate also york ilkley otley and ripon and now i just go to hebden bridg but its a nice place it has everything i am interested in for instance the canal a nice river trees all the way along i go to charge my batteries up and it brings me down to earth all that fresh air ... i have always had a day out on a monday for the past thirty years but then covid came along ..didnt have the jab you dont know what they put in it i dont trust them .. now we have got putin what is next i ask myself.. so do you run the mill on your own how did it all start .. hope all goes well when you come to halifax and you get some orders in to keep you going for a while ..take care of yourself

Hello yes the world is a pretty crazy place at the moment. Yes it's just me in the mill, I have 4 Dobcross, 6 Lancashire Looms, and a few more modern looms. I started 10 years ago with just the one. I spend quite a bit of time these days fixing looms for museums, which helps pay the bills. I am completely self taught so am always interested to talk to other weavers who have experience on looms like these. Currently i am building a 24 shaft 50" wide Dobcross to do all my pattern sample work. I am based in London & Herefordshire. But am up north all the time.
