Hi Matt I have been watching your video First Steps with LinuxCNC. I am a complete novice but want to try build a unit. I have located the Biostar A68N-2100 motherboard but I know I will need a power board, hard drive and fans. Would it be possible just to let me know the model numbers you have used in the video. If I use this Motherboard can it be used going forward to build a more complicated CNC? Paul

This was definitely not what I was searching for about LinuxCNC, but I appreciate that it's quite a nice introduction for beginners

The parport tester is included in the standard LinuxCNC install, in the config-picker look under "apps" in "sample configs" Another thing to check if using a DB25 cable is that not all "printer cables" are fully wired. Many have only enough cores inside to drive (some) printers.

Thank you for the video, I really liked it. There are others on the topic, but I think they are very specific or sometimes they don't say much. With this, I now know what materials I need to start testing LinuxCNC with something connected! Thanks!

Sorry for the question, linuxcnc work only with parallel port?
@migueld6851
@migueld6851 11 ай бұрын
No, it also works with Ethernet cards like the Mesa ones, but they are expensive and rarely in stock. I'm quite new to this, but I've noticed that Mesa cards haven't been available in stock since 2021. If you're new, like I am, consider starting with testing and experimenting with serial communication."

i just build my cnc X axis, limitsSW both end, and home inductive sensor left side X, i configure 2 paraller port card, used, first main port has connected all home axis, XYZ, second paraller port have all limit SW. hard limit, not can go out of linear rails, have better connect all limitSW same pin 10 than E-stop or all limit SW own axis limitSW both side X, both limit Y, both limit SW Z etc. why my first test i call homing X, go to left my home SW, BUT why start go back to right side after connect to home SW, and not stop, need E-stop can stop not run out of rails. what need make ? home X,home Y, home Z, have configured. and all limit SW have top of rail, and configured 2 different style possiple use, all limit same pin than E-stop, or all limitSW pin X11,Y12,Z13. second paraller port card, because one paraller port have only 4 pin can use.10 E-stop, X home,Y home,Z home, and pin 15 probe. what need make configure wisard ??. home axis right ? my X have 0 to 800 ,linear rail dimension, Y 0 to 1000, Z 0 to -300, have this right ? home setting 0.0 search home 1,5 mm/s what need do. homing normal ,if bush button home X then move left to minus but stop then connect home SW.,why run back to right ? and not stop newer, if not bush E-stop run out of rails and broken machine. help please what need do go normal only left and stay stop to home position.if i bush button home X , Z and Y not have tested yet, not all parts have ready.

Your not going to have an overheating issue with those drivers butting up to each other?
@mattsmachinechannel
@mattsmachinechannel Жыл бұрын
Hey! You may be right - I've not noticed that yet but I'm not putting them under real load yet. It is getting quite cramped in that enclosure, though. One of the reasons I like having everything clip onto DIN rail is I can easily move things around later if I need to, I might end up with the drivers in a separate box eventually.
