Good work working the issues as you go. Tip on the gravel. Now that you have achieved the base to slow the water as it filters down and away, there will be some settling naturally. This happens from water removing the fine dirt, constant seismic activity and build traffic. That’s your true depth height. The next load you bring in eventually, let the rain wash it clean for a few weeks, apply a soil separator/filter fabric down first, then your washed rock for finish level. 5/8”minus interlocking rock. Use a 8x8 or 12x12 inch tamper and it will stay at that level and look great for years to come. Congratulations on getting after it. Pays to be a winner.

Man that’s a lot of work on the floor! I would have built it at the height and added 2x2 on the 2x8s. I would have then added strips of plywood to fit between the 2x8s. From there you add your floor insulation and water proofing if needed between the floor joists. If you you were concerned about vermin, you can add diatomaceous earth under and around to keep those bugs/vermin out of the space.

By the way if you have a run in with another black bear if you yell at them they will run away. The human voice sets us apart from bears. They have very poor vision especially if your in camouflage so yelling at them makes it absolutely clear you’re a human.

Might be too late to suggest, but you can dig a hole in the dirt a few feet deep under the floor, line the sides of it with some scrap wood, and throw a couple inches of gravel in the bottom. Put a hatch in the floor above the hole, and you have yourself a cool storage for food in 5 gallon buckets.

Not sure why you move the loaded cart by hand? Why not just leave it on the 4 wheeler and back it up to the cabin where you need it? You would think it would be easier even if you could only get close to shovel the stone out as opposed to moving a loaded cart by hand.

Well done. Your Fast Cabin is going up at lightning speed. My favorite cabin build channel is The Outsider. See this video at 24.30 for where vapor barrier needs to be placed relative to where the dew point drops out moisture. Condensation in insulation will reduce R value and feed mold. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJukdJl0mp3Umac.htmlsi=79T16DslpGVkcE2E. He also has 5 saw mill videos. I also like Simple Living Alaska and Chris Harbour Natural Building for saw mills.

Why not drive the trailer to where you want it with atv instead of dragging it by hand?

James - I caught up on your series about a month ago. Now during the week I wait for Saturdays to catch the next 'episode'. I'm looking forward to it during the week now. The other day I was out grilling in my backyard in Georgia and some kids were outside playing and running around, and I overheard them saying 'oogah boogah'. I looked up bewildered over the smoke and flames of my grill and grunted back 'oogah boogah' in contemplation.

Love your channel, and never miss a week. Did a quick scan of comments and didn't see anybody else ask this. Once you get the vapor barrier and wire mesh in place, how are you going to let that section down? You won't be able to stand between the joists to pull them screws out.

Maybe.... Leave that section of the floor where it is, build the second half ON TOP of the existing floor, slide it off / into place, and then lower the section you built in this episode?

Most people would back the atv trailer up to the side of the cabin and unload instead of unhitching.

You might want to invest in eves troughs installing these will help your foundation erosion plus can be used to trap rainwater to either to water plants or other uses. Don't let all this effort go to waste your foundation is the life of your cabin.

James. Get a wheelbarrow, dump your loads of gravel around the cabin while the trailer us on your ATV and shovel or relocate where needed. Personally, i would make some forms and mix concrete for more support under the cabin. Good show in any case.

I do not think it’s the same as Thor’s red oak- I couldn’t get a good screenshot of the leaf or its underside or of the stem so can’t say for sure it’s an oak either if its really one main stem ok it’s not growing like a shrub - so maybe a nut tree and still maybe oak (the kind of oak I think it might be only grows in swampy areas) - we gonna have to get a better look at the mystery greenery

Call them Thor's twins as a double throwback. Specifically, you can name them individually, Móði and Magni which were Thor's two sons. I don't believe there were twins, but the double reference goes to "The Hunt for Red October" when there was a reference to an underwater geological feature called "Thor's twins". There may be books upon books of mythology about Thor's twins that I don't know about. Not the point. I know sir you are a connoisseur of '80s and '90s pop culture references so I figured that's right up your alley.
