thanks man coming from a 15 year old dunker, been dunking since 13 but started getting knee pain when I was 14 approaching 15 (just turned 15) went to a chiropractor, and I’ve had this pain for 5 months I’m gonna start doing this consistently hope it helps me

The angle the jumper enters their take-off mechanism is dependent upon the horizontal momentum and vertical rotation efficiency.

The foremost foreign athletic scientists that first studied the penultimate step and conversion of horizontal momentum in the high jump are no longer alive. The majority of contemporary instructors have great difficulty applying correct penultimate step athletic technology. “Let the curved conversion phase create the opposing centripetal ground force necessary to enter the take-off mechanism efficiently!” I once embarrassingly asked a doctor of kinesiology a question about the commonly used muscle memory concept. I mentioned, “That a muscle contracts, and muscle groups function (contract and stretch) together to provide lever movement balance. It seems that people are confusing muscle contraction and perceptual motor activity.” This professor laughed and said, “You are a high jump technician. You should have a problem with that concept. There is no such thing! Your independent study of the running high jump technique is amazing!”

That is correct. The penultimate step should ground and the whole foot should touch at the same time.

This drill helps a high jumper drive their knee which is key to performing the “flop” or the back bend properly.

@@highjumphelp8090 well, how not try to flop and exercise the knee ? using the scissor technique for improving the take off stage might lead to bad habits, the body movement just before and after the take off is not exactly the same

Just found your channel looking for videos on overbar mechanics. My athlete lands flat on her back in stead of holding the arch and push the shoulders down towards the mat. Nice video showing exactly that.

@@highjumphelp8090 I'm not arguing your points. I've been jumping for 47 years and coaching for 35. We settled the hips and planted on the last step by lengthening it. We drove the knee across the body. Thomas Zacharius says the knee drive should be neutral. I can't change after all these years. Why does he say neutral and also says most flop teaching is incorrect. He says people sit on the bar because the upper body isn't dropping and their rotation is incorrect.

I would love to help you out. I recommend following the 4 Baby Steps of High Jump. 1)get a consistent approach. 2) work on taking off correctly. 3) ensure your knee is driven to the bar and across your body. 4) hold the back bend until your shoulders hit the mat (if performing a full high jump).
