Both Astrosurface and now, in recent versions, Sharpcap have added wavelets which are arguably better than Registax. I started using PIPP+Autostakkert +Registax, then I moved on to Astrosurface that combines the functionality of all three. But since version 4.1 of Sharpcap that came out last December and all the new solar/lunar/planetary stacking stuff there's no need to use anything but Sharpcap for everything now. It has wavelets but it also has a "fine" filter that is arguably even better than wavelets ! Try using "test camera" in Sharpcap and play your AVI video back in and explore the planetary stacking stuff (it does need a Sharpcap Pro licence but that's well worth £14)

Look for the free AstroSurface to use instead of Registax. It has many more features.

Regarding imaging in RGB 24. I suggest imaging in RGB 8 or 16. RGB 24 is an 8-bit format as is Raw 8 but RGB 24 has been debayered and has twice the file size as Raw 8. Raw 16 is a 12-bit format upscaled to 16-bit. I did a test using my ZWO ASI585 collecting 10 seconds of 0.032 exposure images: Format FPS Filesize RGB 24 37 9gb Raw 8 47 4gb Raw 16 24 4gb Sometimes I will use Raw 16 with my ZWO ASI676 because I can occasionally get the same FPS that I do with Raw 8. Both AutoStakkert and PIPP will debayer raw files.
@MPAstro15 сағат бұрын
@@lainevince wow that's a huge help, so RAW 8 could be better for me, massive difference in FPS. I have to check my 662 if I have similar settings, 🤞

Saturn has a rotational period 10.6 hrs compared to Jupiter at 9.9 hrs. I would limit Saturn exposure length to 2 minutes. You can use WinJUPOS to derotate and combine multiple 2 minute exposures. Why use AutoStakkert 2 when version 4 is available? I would use the SER file format instead of AVI because the file sizes are smaller for the same amount of data. Color space of Raw 8 for smaller file sizes. Just thoughts.
@MPAstroКүн бұрын
@@lainevince Thanks for those handy tips, WinJUPOS seems like I would need the most. AutoStakkert 4 I think you have to purchase it online. I will look into that software, Do you know why AutoStakkert 4 is better, what extra features does it have? Any thoughts?? Many thanks for watching 😊

Good afternoon I follow you regularly, partly because you are not only the only one who can handle the Mak 180, but also because you teach the rest of us. I have had a Mak 180 for years and I have a lot of problems with the focus. There are videos of extensions up to 200 millimetres and I see that you connect the camera directly to the click lock. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us poor amateurs. P.S. You are very jealous Greetings from Spain

Don't worry Jorge, Have considered converting a standard Skywatcher auto focuser onto your Mak180, the auto focuser makes so easy to operate the focus on the Mak180. I have made a video on that topic kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qsl6ZM-j0dTHoKc.html

Nicely done, Martin! I've also used AutoStakkert 2 and RegiStax 6 to stack images. I'm in a tough transitional phase of my life, where I haven't been able to do much observing for quite a while, but I hope to get out in the field once again, at some point, especially now that I live so close to a dark sky site. Several of your tutorial videos are still go-to references for me, when I need a refresher on things, so thank you for doing this.

Thank you for your positive comments, I apprieciate from my viewers who use my videos as important advice. I'm looking at making more videos on post processing, though it's not easy to do, sometimes live recordings can be nightmare, if you try to show what your doing on photoshop, sometimes the image could go wrong some where, it's very tricky to master and correct your mistakes without looking stupid in the process!! It will take some careful planning, but look out for more of these videos, at least one thing I did not cheat using AI technology, so many top Astro channels are using AI prrograms, which I feel it makes people lazy!!!
