This would be great if the M15 Hunter Expressway connected to the Inner City By-Pass and the Inner City By-Pass can better connect to the M1 at both ends.

I’m living in Shortland now. Lots has changed since I moved here in 2007. Lock your cars and house at night. Newcastle is overall a great city. I find everything I need without leaving the LGA.

As a Train driver in Newcastle, it always blows me away how long trains are when seen from above. I know they’re that long, you’re always thinking about where the back of your train is while you’re driving along, but seeing it from above compared to the rest of the city really puts it into perspective

I call it "The Newcastle Syndrome" We are treated like Sydneys retarded cousin up the road. For the second largest city in NSW we get shafted all the time with basic infrastructure needs. We have had 'The road to nowhere for what, 20 years? the Tourle St Bridge fiasco, the end of the M1 to Raymond Terrace bypass procrastination and many many more. At least things are finally happening but it should have been started 20 years ago!

Go the dale,at one stage about 20 years ago,there was a news report that said windale had more drug dealers per head than anywhere else in the southern hemisphere, and in the late sixties,early seventies it had the nickname of dodge city,because thats what the cops would do if they could

Fun trivia. The Charlestown Bypass section is not the whole original planned section 1. The original plan was for a Pacific Hwy deviation to branch off the existing highway at the front of the the golf course at Belmont South, cross Jewells swamp and run up alongside the railway line (now Fernleigh Track) through Whitebridge, to join City Rd near the water towers at Adamstown Heights. The Inner City Bypass was supposed to branch off that north east of Bennetts Green, with a flyover where the current end is.
@jimrockford36622 ай бұрын
What you describe is a totally different bypass.
@atholmullen2 ай бұрын
@@jimrockford3662 I described the Pacific Hwy deviation, in order to explain where the Inner City Bypass would have started to connect to it.
@atholmullen2 ай бұрын
Section 2 now needs to be further upgraded, to eliminate the traffic lights and move the school zone onto a separate side road. This could be achieved by building a grade separated interchange at the top of Carnley Ave and extending Main Rd to connect to it. This would enable other changes that would eliminate all traffic lights and most right turns on and off the through road.

You think Newcastle's been neglected? Come to taree where we have no decent infrastructure for current traffic demands, almost non-existent public transport, and a tiny country hospital that is supposed to service a population just shy of 100,000 people.
@user-bj5zs2tj8g2 ай бұрын
Everywhere is neglected. That's how it works. Traffic is only fixed when it's about 20 years too late.

considering newy is 2nd most populace city in the state and the last project was 40+years ago... id say they have been neglected. 40+ years of taxes and no infrastructure upgrades?

That’s great Newcastle is getting another bypass, but there’ll be headaches with it, as a Sydney sider I e experienced new roads over the years and being a truck driver yeah you get to a place quicker but so does everyone else, good luck in the mornings at peak hour leave home earlier. at least there won’t be a toll on it like Sydney

Amazing. I lived in Newcastle my whole life and never knew this existed. Now that's it's empty, it looks like the kind of place my friends and I would have ridden our bikes around when we were kids. I can see us making it a racing circuit. Would've been better than our little dirt circle in Islington Park. 😎

Yeah what he said, Newcastle, it's awful, crack addicts everywhere, really cold and there's nothing to do.. The beaches suck, can't find a policeman anywhere, no education standards & you'll probably drown inside a bullshark if you're not careful. Go to Gosford or Ourimbah, it's beautiful and people are sober living, hard working and very friendly.
