You picked the right time to take the video. All the traffic is flowing so smoothly. Unlike the rest of the day 😉

You had me there!! I live in Jesmond in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. News of a new by-pass surprised me!! Wrong country! 😂

Newcastle's been waiting decades for this as it was first planned in the 60s.

I built a house in shortland in 1970 I was in my twenties and this was on the books then, here I am and I`m 80 and it`s only now being built it`s a shame Newcastle dose not start with an S (Sydney) maybe I would have had the pleasure to drive on this necessary piece of inforstructure before I die

Exactly. We needed NNSW State to get up back in the day.

Great job mate. NSW government information on the project is badly out of date. Glad you've put this video out.

Wasn't aware it was underway. Been planned for 50 years! Great news!...

That’s great Newcastle is getting another bypass, but there’ll be headaches with it, as a Sydney sider I e experienced new roads over the years and being a truck driver yeah you get to a place quicker but so does everyone else, good luck in the mornings at peak hour leave home earlier. at least there won’t be a toll on it like Sydney

Nice video. I'm amazed that they're building a freeway through urban bushland. This couldn't happen in Sydney anymore. I remember the kerfuffle over the M2 going through Epping and Beecroft.
@winstons18066 ай бұрын
A Tunnel was the alternative but would have cost more.
@atholmullen6 ай бұрын
Like the M2, the bush was there because the land was reserved for the road decades ago.
@user-mb3dx3nn5c6 ай бұрын
@@atholmullen That's often true, but in this case the area of bushland is much larger than what's required for the road. They no doubt routed it that way so as to avoid having to acquire private property, which would have added to the project's cost. I'm still surprised that Newcastle people aren't objecting to it. I guess they're less concerned about the environment than Sydney people are.

I've been looking for videos on this upgrade, but was searching for "Rankin Park to Jesmond", which is its official name. After they complete this, they will need to fix the middle section that has traffic lights and a school zone. There isn't even a plan for the upgrade that is needed there.
@user-mb3dx3nn5c6 ай бұрын
Is there any land set aside in that area for a new road?
@atholmullen6 ай бұрын
@@user-mb3dx3nn5c There is a road corridor from opposite the top of Carnley Ave to Main Rd Cardiff at the corner of Cardiff Rd. What is needed is a grade-separated interchange at the top of Carnley Ave to take east/west traffic underneath the bypass. With the right design, all three sets of traffic lights (Main Rd, Carnley Ave, Peatties Rd) could be eliminated, the intersections reconfigured and the school zone moved onto a local side road separated from the main road.

@@user-mb3dx3nn5c I haven't lived in Newcastle since 2007, but I'm positive He's talking about the 1 km part on Lookout Road. The only option for that part is to elevate it. Tunnel is way too expensive.. I could be wrong but I think that is the part they'll leave... Edit: And no, there's no land available.

What can realistically done though? It’s going to be a major bottleneck, but you know that’s the Newcastle way. Just keep moving the bottleneck so it looks like there’s some form of progress happening
@atholmullen15 күн бұрын
@@Nebs1 One grade-separated interchange at the top of Carnley Ave, with Main Rd Cardiff extended within an existing unused road reserve to that interchange. Done right, all three sets of lights could be removed and the school zone separated onto a side road fenced off from the main road.
