I’m sorry I CAN’T STAND water in my nose and eyes! I’ve had severe sinus infection and ear infections all my life to the point I lost hearing in one ear. I can swim freestyle, backstroke, dolphin kick, and tread water BUT I have to wear goggles and a swim cap. I can stand it if I have to though lol. I had to jump in the pool because bees were stinging me lol. I came up and had to go back down until they left. I held my nose but my eyes were burning like hell. This summer I’ll at least try to swim with just a nose clip.

Breath control is one of the strangest things we learn in swimming! No other sport (except archery and biathlon) forces you to change your natural breathing pattern. Drinking water as you learn is normal! As is getting it up your nose ;)

I tries swim classes for half a year at a swim/pool community center. My mom tried, her bf, my ex, friends. I just never got it🤷🏾‍♀️I can doggy but I cant float. I can't relax myself and o have an aversion of submersion. I've droned and was resuscitated. I dont trust water in the slightest. Drowning is a terrifying and painful experience. Although, I always ask every bf & gf to teach me 💁🏾‍♀️

I'm a 26 year girl, 5'5'', weighing 156 pounds 😭, and I'm scared of water, being the only one who won't get into the pool with my friends. To overcome this fear, I decided to learn swimming, and the class is gonna start next week . I'm not at all confident that I will learn😰 am I too fat to learn at this age? I used to feel jealous of those who can swim. I hope it's my turn now.

For the last god know how many months I have been waiting to enrol for swimming lessons at our local pool. When I last enquired there was an 18 month wait and I was 38th on the list. Somehow I don't think I'll bother. There are private lessons available but these are £38 per hour. Everybody says learn to swim it's good exercise and could save your life, I don'think I'll bother just exercise on dry land and steer clear of water.

Lessons can be expensive especially if they are one on one with an instructor. I am actually in the process of creating a video e-course which I'm hoping will make learning to swim much more affordable and accessible for so many people like you who would like to learn to swim. If you have any ideas for what to put in that course - what you'd like to see in the course, let me know!

How do you convince people to relax in water. The body is a buoyant in deep water as it is in shallow water.

Well I have now moved house so have to find another pool so I can join the waiting list. However there are issues. 1) None of the pools are accessible by public transport and as I don't drive slight difficult. 2) Finding someone to " Hold my Hand". My wife is a very proficient swimmer but has refused to help me as she says its a waste of time as when on the very rare occasion that we have been to pool I don't do anything.

Oh, that makes things more complicated, doesn't it. Anthony, I believe you'd need a specialized instructor to help you find the right balance point and the best way to get moving in a particular direction with that type of physical challenge.

What's the secret to staying floated in the poll?
@theswimologist
@theswimologist 5 жыл бұрын
Florence Olorunfemi The secret is good breath holding, a completely horizontal body position and knowing how to recover to standing! Check out my other video on how to front float here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8mZd9Nq05q5Y2w.html

Is it advisable to use a float for a beginner
@theswimologist
@theswimologist 5 жыл бұрын
Jayesh Soni, It really depends on what activity the beginner is undertaking. A person who is not comfortable or fully capable of swimming in the deep end should wear a pfd for all water sports. If they are learning with a professional swim instructor, the instructor will decide if floatation equipment is necessary.

When your toes are pointed in front crawl, should they be still, or should your feet be moving like flippers while they’re pointed ?
@theswimologist
@theswimologist 5 жыл бұрын
Paige, awesome question! In the flutter kick for front crawl your feet are gently pointed throughout the kick. However your pointed foot and leg (right up to your hip) only tense in the downward motion of the kick to offer resistance on the water and relax in the upward or recovery motion (as you kick upward). To make this a bit clearer think of the motion your foot and leg make if you were wearing a flip flop sandal (thong in Australia) and were kicking it off your foot while standing - the movement would start with a forward thrust originating from your hip, then your thigh would move forward, slightly bent knee would follow, then your shin, loose ankle and lightly pointed foot - all traveling forward in a wave motion. This is a similar motion to the downward kick of front crawl :)

What . I forgot to say is if we were meant to be in water we would have developed gills like fish. We are land creatures so let's stay on he land. Some of the arguements put forward about learning to swim are 1) Could save your life by stopping you drowning. Well there is an easier way, don't go near water. 2) Good exercise. I exercise on land, satisfactorily.

Hi! Thank you for replying. I bought some intensive lessons and have finally learned to float on stomach and back! It was scary at first but with a lot(!) of practice i can finally do it standing near the corner of the pool :) I'm struggling with doing rotations from side to side, front to back and vice versa. Could you please make video on that too and also on how to keep head out of water when gliding on stomach. Your videos are very helpful!
