0:17 I have missed your thoughtful analyses this year. Welcome back! I wish however that I shared your relative optimism about Max King's future prospects. From my perspective though, after seeing maybe 600 St Kilda games since 1969, I find it hard to be positive. King has had several years in the AFL system now and his body unfortunately seems to be fragile. He has suffered from several setbacks and sadly has never dominated for a full game of AFL footy. He needs a number of full pre seasons. King shows tremendous glimpses of his undoubted talent from time to time. His lack of strength and presence, poor leading patterns, inaccurate, unreliable kicking for goal (take a lesson from Cooper Sharman!!) and undesirable body language are all factors as well which relate to his limited impact. I have seen many players of outstanding talent that never forge a great career. I truly hope that Max ends up as a true champion of this club. He will need to work really hard on many aspects of his game however. Best wishes Max! We want all the best for you... We want you to hold up a premiership cup for all of us long suffering supporters!!

Good analysis and vid. I think Jagga Smith has all the attributes to be a massive draft bust. Undersized, poor disposal, performed well only against undermanned sides. Would be upset if we get him.

Have thought about that but if you focus on his strengths - accumulator, elite positioning, reads the play, good decision maker, wins contest despite a small frame. His size is similar to Butters in his U18s year

@@alankffooty Do know where they've said that? Because everything I saw from press conferences, etc, suggested they were further than where they thought they were when they signed Ratten on mid-season. I guess you can interpret that a number of ways, but the fact that they let quite a number of players go after Ross' first year also suggests the list wasn't where they wanted it to be.

"We don't need an A-Grade ruck" argument-do you remember Paddy Ryder Saints? How about Marshall's top-end performances? I'd really love a "tap-ruck" to interchange with Ro, like the Paddy-Ro combo, as the ruck is the engine room when it's functioning to top capacity. As a supporter my concern is more about what is making Marshall feel unsettled and get it fixed quite quickly!!

Big fan of Olli Hotton, so he has me invested. I don't think many casual fans would know that he's had an injury-interrupted year 2. Yet I have also seen a very dominant 5 goal game for a small mid-forward returning from injury. He's got heart and talent. Not feeling that we've seen Olli free of being injury-hampered and able to build continuity. He's also a really great energy to have at a club. I'm hoping to the heavens he's safe at Saints and that we persevere together with Olli.

Thanks for this knowledgeable & insightful video, as per usual. I personally would have focused on Jack Hayes as needing to step up. If Hayes can become injury free, he could fill a highly important role as a forward and back up to Rowan Marshall. (I know some of us said that 12 months ago as well). Hayes could be a key part of the jigsaw that could see us improve again, and even win a final or two at the MCG. Maybe I'm dreaming as this is a big ask, but not out of the question.

Dougal Howard has an attitude problem. He was let go from Port for the same reason and will not improve. He is still useful but long term we need someone better.(maybe Van Ess?) Zac Jones is past it. He can no longer do the bullocking work for any period of time that made him valuable. Max Heath is still a long way away (if ever).Allison has been past by nearly all of the new recruits, and needs to perform this year, or moved on. Hunter Clark has had an unfortunate run, but not sure that he adds much at this stage. Steele needs to stay healthy.
@behmgaddie63767 ай бұрын
Howard was traded from Port to us because they wanted to play him as a Forward, and he wanted to be a defender, but I agree that Van Es could get some games over him. I think Allisson is probably a replacement for Wood, but the rest I agree with
@mcsq58996 ай бұрын
Howard didn't want to improve, and still doesn't. Just like Cordy can move forward if needed, Howard doesn't want to be a team player and develop his craft. Howard believes that because he is the only real tall forward we have, his position is secure. Port wanted him to learn about forward craft, as well as being a defender. Maybe it would make him an even better defender. Allison was very unlucky to be injured just when it looked like he could make a breakthrough this year. Apparently a very good runner, his skills are yet to be proven at the highest level, and needs to be able to force his way into the team and get game time, something that will be hard to do given our latest recruits.

Someone I’d really like to see take hold of his position and really show some dominance is Cooper Sharman. I think he’s has all the tools to be a genuine top 5 third tall in the game. If we can get 30-40 goals out of him we will be a significantly better side.

As a North supporter I'm thinking our next targets of interest via the draft will be a key Forward player. To start that future planning but also hopefully get someone developing and potentially playing alongside Larkey. Granted though we did pick up Finnbar Maley in rookie draft. I fully expect North's final list spot to be filled with the elevation of either Tyler Sellars or Kade De La Rue from North's VFL list. De La Rue a recent signing to North's VFL as well as Ben Hopkins, a recent addition who might even be a pick up to North in MSD depending on injuries etc. All in all I look forward to North's draft strategy next year.

I'm keen to give Jack Hayes a go. He was a star in the first few rounds of the 2022, until he was injured. He is 27 (i think), so if we don't pick him in 2024, we should let him go. I think he is a perfect Center Forward, he can mark, run and he can kick goals from 55m. He can also do the forward Ruck work, giving Ro a break, and freeing up Max. I think Tim Membrey should be given a period of less stress, and period in the VFL to regain his form and confidence, maybe look at him in the second half of the season 2024. I'm also keen to see Windhager have a good year. He has not delivered yet on his promise, but I think 2024 could be it. I would like to see him on the wing. I think our best mid group going forward should be Marshall, Crouch, Owens and Phillipou, and I expect the boss to give these guys first opportunity. Perhaps Sincs into the mid as well, and find a new half back, maybe Liam Henry.
@alankffooty7 ай бұрын
Agree about Hayes, think he can make an impact. Membrey seems fine, was at the club almost every day for a good period after the EF. I think Windy will play less wing because of our recruits - maybe a bit more half back to free up Sinclair. Or he could be the one to make a difference in our midfield with his power, we'll have to wait and see. Henry is a forward-of-centre player, not a defender. You don't think Steele is a part of our midfield going forward? Pou and Owens won't be full time mids as they fill out their bodies and continue to impact in the F50 so Steele Crouch Dow is an ideal starting midfield for mine.

Firstly. There's never truly a loser in a draft. There's clubs that do it really well and clubs that make the most out if what they have. Port turning 1 pick into 4 for example. The only deflation to that is that they are in fact bottom of the barrel selections for depth and lobg term developments in potentially finding a diamond in tbe rough. Second. GWS did really well in the draft with picking Gothard ahead of St.kilda and the ROO'S. The method of the madness there was to select a definitive player whom they could really utilise on a needs basis and by doing that trade with the crows they effectively garrenteed that. Proofs in the pudding by the fact that they STILL got to take Leake after Gothard and that made both furst selections a real bang for their buck. Third. Crows really rolling the duce on the Curtin selection but like the giants it's a method of madness in that they clearly had a series of targets after Norths 3rd pick so they certainly were prepared to run the gauntlet on that one. I'd certainly say their preference was Goad but knew the risk when trading up for the priority of Curtin. Fourth. Its basically the sane round about way with Sydney in taking Green. Sure they didn't have to but they did and that's a weighted choice cone draft night. Like North they have a Ruckman leading that position, but will want someone to develop and take that role in 3-4 years time. Certainly not a bad choice. And finally. North certainly made the best out of a tainted situation. No one likes assistance packages and they're certainly not handed out without due reason. But in acknowledgement of North's assistance in comparison to the majority of other clubs who recieved assistance far more better and near top end. North made the best of it and did really well. Pick 2: finished 17th Pick 3: McKay compo Pick 15: ports pick tied to trade for jhf Pick 17: trade with Carlton Pick 18: trade with Gold Coast Everything North got was done through management of trades and use of their own future and current picks to make the best of what they had. PLUS all clubs associated with the assistance picks are now privy to that "taint" people subscribe to. -For North to address polished midfield class in the unique calibre of Mckercher is a ☑️ -Additional depth in a match winning and potent goal kicking HF in Durrsma is a ☑️ - future planning in snatching just ahead of the crows Taylor Goad whom possesses inhuman speed for a potential Gawn clone is a ☑️ - shoring up depth with further future planning in Dawson as a big man Defender to emerge from the shadow of Logue as his successor and be that big man key Defender is a ☑️ -and of course is the rebounding Defender in Hardeman. A kid bursting with leadership, pace and accuracy in hiw he both reads the play, intercepts and delivers the ball across the field. Will no doubt be Lmacs successor. All in all. A good video. Apologies for the essay as I do get carried away and yes I do barrack for North. That said I hope these can be some positive criticisms and hopefully shed some light for any 🤡's who come along to knock at Norths draft haul. Keep up the great work and go North!!!

Everything is relative. The losers lost *in comparison* to other teams. Essentially, did the worst out of all 18 clubs. Obviously they traded out of this draft to invest heavy in 2024, but it doesn't change the fact that they still did worse than other clubs in the 2023 draft. Certainly, clubs like Giants and Swans will consider themselves winners internally because they fulfilled needs, but my point is that the Swans probably got spooked by other clubs and had to take Green at a point in the draft where he wasn't expected to be taken at. They could've got more *value* out of the pick in terms of the players available at that point.
