I held a licence on the Gold Coast in the early 90s. But one day at the club, when I ran in to 2 or 3 fellas behaving very poorly it soured my enjoyment enough for me to give up the hobby. I saw one guy give his skinny girlfriend one of those 454s with the stupid little Colt Peacemaker style grip, woefully inadequate for such a thumper when the shooter has low grip strength, and this guy laughed when the gun flipped so hard that his girlfriend shrieked and clouted herself in the face leading to copious bleeding from a scalp wound and probably a scar she seemed inconsolable after that but I can’t be sure because her boyfriend’s idea of consoling was laughing and saying “Awww come on! It’s not that bad!” THEN on the same day a guy with an M16 started yelling at a guy who was using an AK47 (both semiautomatic only, obviously) but M16 Man took exception to the fact that AK47 Man was firing from the hip. As their yelling increased I realised this was like a furious episode of road rage between two egotistical idiots who were both holding assault rifles. I love guns for the machines they are and the great fun of target shooting but I didn’t love them enough to be around fools like these and in my experience, for every keen hobbyist or professional who required a license there was at least one yobbo. I hope things have improved since then.

Thanks for posting Excellent video explaining the law. I was a member of a Pistol Club years ago. Seems nothing has changed. I had different classes and calibre. Endless range time . Our indoor range closed so had to shoot at Belmont range which was primitive and not as safe so I surrendered my licence and sold my guns.

nice job gents, the only way we can get passed the negative press is to open the doors to our sport. Great info. The statement of eligibility time frame can be as long as the time for licence takes. Had a statement of eligibility and a AB submitted roughly the same time. Both took 36 weeks. 2 years.ago. i believe time frames have improved. Had to redo safety course as the 12 month lapsed by 2 weeks once you add in the probation time as mentioned.

I might just add to your video mate.. If you own a single cab ute you can store the firearms behind the seat but they must be covered and out of sight of the public an ammunition must be also covered.. when I first got my license I couldn't find anything on the law about transporting in a ute without a lock box on the tray, I had to call weapons licensing several times to find someone who knew what the law was .

Can you please clarify your comment on a timber safe? is it your understanding that it is possible to build a legal safe using timber for example once a frame is constructed you can clad it with ply? I've heard previously that it has to be a minimum of 40mm with a solid core door and appropriate lock.

I like the way you promoted firearms safety i hope you one day you promote Gel blasters they are illegal in most states but only legal in Queensland as toy guns, Gel blasters were once legal in South Australia but too many silly people used it in crimes so Gel blaster was banned as toy guns but came back as a Category A licence firearms both in semi auto pistols and automatic rifles and it be locked up with Category A + B firearms and ever since it was not misuse, i hope one day you promote Gel blasters on You Tube making it a establish a Gel blasters shooting club so people can enjoy that kind of shooting sport within the law to decriminalise people

10:52 - The STUPID thing about the ammo storage is that it would be safer if the padlocked ammo box was also secured in the safe, but then it would make it illegal because they are stored together. Try and make sense of that.
@ob1knb34 ай бұрын
The law is in place so one can’t get a rifle with ammo in it ready to go in a pinch. You can’t use a rifle in Australia to defend your home so the law is made around making it super difficult for one to do so even if they try and break that law

I'm pretty sure the language in the in the legislation regarding ammunition storage is that it has to be separate from major components and has to be 'secured'. It does not mention the container having to be locked. So, on a technicality, if you kept the ammo in the original box and put that in a container that is 'secure' (closed and out of reach, so it could be bloody tupperware if you wanted to), it would be perfectly legal. Theoretically, that is. I would personally never store ammunition in a tupperware container in my cupboard. 😊 I could be wrong, though. I might have to give it another read. 😅
@armingthenationfirearmstra19426 ай бұрын
yes all it says is that ammunition must be stored in an area that minimizes explosion in original packaging or better for eg. ammo containers for reloading individually separated in container, in an area that an unauthorized person can get to and never with a firearm of major component of a firearm.
@armingthenationfirearmstra19426 ай бұрын

I think storing your rifle bolts in with your rifles is wrong,if someone breaks into your gun safe they have a complete weapon if the bolt is right next to the rifle ! Wouldn’t it be safer if the bolt is locked away separately from the rifle ? That law needs to be changed,I had a gun safe inspection last year and had my 2 rifle bolts stored separately in with my ammunition in a locked compartment in the safe and the police officer didn’t say a word ? He inspected my entire safe and commended me for having a well organised firearm storage safe and having all my permits to Aquire nearby.
