Where do you found that top case and mount?
@ItsBeenDanBefore5 ай бұрын
The rack to then mount the top box was from SW Motech, it was the only rack I found I didn't hate the shape of at the time. It was a Givi top box then attached onto it, can't 100% say what topbox as it was an older one. SW Motech do quick release adapters for their plates for the main manufacturers that look really good and fit directly into the holes on the rack

Nice smooth riding. Is that a Go Pro with a chin mount you're filming with, if so it gives a much more dynamic film than the camera I use, which is the Drift Ghost, I've been thinking about getting a Go Pro myself. Ride Safe, regards John
@ItsBeenDanBefore10 ай бұрын
Hi, John, apologies about the delayed response. You're correct, it's a Hero 7 mounted on a chin mount. At this time, I was using an ND filter with a slower shutter rate to enable a smoother video, ND8 to be specific, which works well for a mixed condition day like this. Nowadays, GoPro has fallen behind a bit, I would probably be more recommending looking at the Insta360 range of cameras. My riding has significantly improved since this recording, I have since gone on to do my Master's course, where I passed with Distinction AKA full marks all around. I am now a much smoother, more progressive and much calmer rider following the course. Thanks for the comment

Hi Dan, firstly congratulations on putting your head above the parapet and posting your rides online especially with commentary which isn't easy to do. Your riding is something like it but you can polish it by slowing yourself down a touch, it looks a bit hurried and sometimes you are a couple of miles an hour faster than you feel comfortable with on the approach to things which makes it look slightly erratic and affects your positioning, drive and stability of the bike - those few miles an hour can make all the difference and overall from A to B, you'll be quicker and more precise if you're gentle with the bike and smoother over the ground. Advanced riding isn't about speed - its about knowing when not to use it. Your safety must come first and with that in mind, control is everything so aim to get all of your braking and swapping of cogs done on the straight before you commit yourself to the bends - you can do this by smoothly rolling off the power as you select your course on the way down to the entry point for the bend - before you get there reduce your speed first either by acceleration sense or some braking if you need it, aim for acceleration sense if you can - its smoother- get down to the speed you want first, and then select the gear to match that speed before you negotiate the bend - using the gearbox as a brake is not good practice especially in the wet, and is hard on the poor old bike, so speed first, then the gear - get the bike under drive, with the engine just pulling, whilst you are still upright on the straight just before the entry point for the bend and hold it under drive on the way in with no more loss of speed, engine pulling - if you accelerate you will widen the arc and move the bike off the course you set by pushing it outwards - if you decelerate, or go in shut down, you will tighten the arc and move the bike off the course you set by causing it to fall inwards - under drive will set the edge on the tyres and help it hold the course that you set as you travel round the corner - on the way round and once you have view of the road ahead, you have to decide on an exit point depending on what comes next, but aim to leave one bend and, road and traffic conditions permitting, draw a straight line to the entry point for the next bend to determine this - as you pass the apex on the way to your chosen exit point, and you begin to straighten and upright the bike, you can start to smoothly put the power back in depending on the road surface and conditions - as the steering comes off, the power goes on. Make those transitions between bends smooth, gradual deviations and avoid making them look "swoopy" - we only have two patches of rubber the size of your hands in contact with the deck so aim to preserve those contacts patches as much as you can, your safety depends on them. The benefits of this are that your setup and positioning will be more precise which in turn allows you the best possible view and stability giving you maximum safety and the added advantage of being able to carry speed safely - so slow in and fast out. When you consider overtaking someone and you're catching them up, assess their vehicles speed and driving, always check up the nearside first for junctions, gateways, pedestrians, cyclist, animals or anything else that could be there and cause you problems - initially you will reach a following position, about a metre back for every mile an hour that you're travelling, and this is the place to have a good look at things and gain as much information as you can but once a potential overtaking place is coming up, we need to move up to an overtaking position - one where we are in touch, but not too close, and within striking distance if the overtake is on but, where we can roll power off and drop back to following without having to brake or inconveniencing anyone if its not. We want to be on the offside for as short a time as possible and if you are still in following position, and move to the offside lane and do a full bore charge, a lot can happen in those five or six seconds that it takes you just to catch him up, on top of however long it then takes you to pass him - move up first whilst you do your final assessment and if its not on, there'll be another opportunity a bit further on, roll off, drop back and start looking again - if it is on, just like with the bends, we need to be in the right place on the road, at the right speed with the right gear engaged so that as we move up, we can continue into the overtake smoothly out to the offside lane and past the car before coming smoothly back to our own side of the road again - quick, smooth and efficient with maximum safety, minimum time on the offside lane, and no fuss if its all well planned. Timing is important and as you say, "that" junction was mistimed and a little planning and restraint would have avoided the position that you got yourself into there - if the passenger had suddenly said "Right here" you would have been in trouble so always think well ahead and plan on what you can see, what you can't see and, most importantly in this case - what is likely to happen. I've never done the IAM or ROSPA courses but one of the IAM guys put a comment on one of my videos recently about using the offside of the road to straight line your course - be careful if you do this especially if you can't see all of the road surface - personally, I don't do it - I think it looks sloppy and unprofessional, its unnecessary unless you're travelling at excessively fast speeds and it draws attention to us for the wrong reasons. According to the IAM observer it would also be a fail on test. Observation, planning and positioning are the key to getting that smooth unhurried looking flow down the road - if you haven't seen it yet and you get five minutes, have a look at a guy called Neils channel Back2TheBike - Neil has been down the IAM route and rides and demonstrates to a very high standard now and is well worth a watch - he came back to riding after a 37 year break so the first ones are getting back into it - we did some interesting filming together where you can see the same ride from both bikes perspective. I hope that you'll take this in the spirit that its intended and please feel free to have a read and delete it - enjoy the bike and stay safe - Dale
@ItsBeenDanBefore2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the comment, do appreciate the feedback, I'm always looking for ways to improve! The one thing I will mention in response will be the offsiding/straight-lining. I'm currently doing my observer training with the IAM and it was something that I asked about, the Chief Observer said that the IAM didn't at all like it, yet I've found some info online from a couple IAM resources from different groups than mine (mainly ones towards the North) that give info on how to safely offside/don't discourage it. I definitely agree, though, when not done right, it definitely looks unprofessional. Having done it in my own riding for a while, I do enjoy using it but need to refine my use of it to maximise my safety (sacrifice everything for safety). Will be taking everything aboard and highly appreciate your time!

@ItsBeenDanBefore3 жыл бұрын
Ay, well done, mate! What is the M licence, by the way? Is that like a provisional?
@gorillaninja783 жыл бұрын
ItsBeenDanBefore we have a 3 step process, M1 is a knowledge test simple multiple choice questions and once you pass that you can ride any bike for 60 days only during daylight hours, zero alcohol, no passenger, no major highways.. after that 60 days you can upgrade to your M2 which will allow all the above stated except the zero alcohol lol this M2 is a temporary license that you can ride with for up to 5 years! So before that 5 years is up you need to take the M test where you have a driver follow you and give you instructions through earbuds that they give you before the on road test and if you pass you have your full M license which is good forever Or until I crash a die 🤣 that’s it in a nutsack I mean nutshell 😂

@@gorillaninja78 That sounds like a much shorter, easier and more sensible version of our testing scheme. From 16, it takes 5 years to get fully unrestricted, I am currently on my A2 licence which is restricted to 47HP for 2 years, then I do the same test again to get unrestricted
