In many cases bikes with a vibration is seen as a bike with character. The Transalp is so smooth so it might be seen as dull but that is far from the truth though. Beautiful bike with much going for it. Probably one of the best everyday and touring type machines out there. Not very fast but GREAT!

The last time I brought my bike in for both tires to be installed (bought the tires at the same place as well) it cost 200 cdn to instal. That is the first/last time ever doing that at a stealership. Getting my own tools and doing it from now on.

That Stator issue is a serious concern even by his own admission that Aprilia could not fix there original stators with confidence but had to replace with the lesser 375? Watts from the 500watts made after 2008 at a €1300 min price tag. Seriously I was considering buying a and Aprilia Tuono but hell no not after seeing this I had similar issues with a triumph tiger it cost me a arm and a leg and still couldn’t get to the bottom of it. so in my humble opinion buy German or jap.

I have a few comments to add about Track Days in Spain - compared to the UK. There are plenty of boxes, garages, power points and parking for cars, trailers and mobile homes. No need to arrive at 3am ready for a zombie apocalypse to get setup. Also the risk of theft is zero, in my experience. Riders leave tools, warmers, leathers, boots, gloves, etc in the boxes overnight, trailers are left in the car park - and in over 100 track days in Spain, nothing has be stolen, at least from me. Finally the atmosphere is of people ready to help each other. I have helped people with torque wrenches, adapters, socket sets, engine oil and even let one guy borrow fuel !! Everything was returned and paid and very friendly.

😁 To be fair, I think they aren't allowed to do very much. As lang as there are bikes on track, I believe they aren't allowed to leave their station, for example.

I bought my 650 Transalp nearly 4 years ago for $3500 Aussie dollars with 12 months registration. It’s such a great all round bike and has typical Honda reliability. I’m no Toby Price but I have no problem taking it off road confidently. My Tranny gets lots of nice comments when I take it out and many can’t believe how little I paid for such a great bike.

There is a slight possibility that the actual mileage will be a little higher. Many of these bikes have their mileage reset to zero after disconnecting the battery for a long time. But I'm sure yours won't have that. 😉

I own a gen 1 transalp 400.. one thing you must say is the voltage regulator.. it lacks proper venting so it runs hot.. a way to solve the problem is to install an aftermarket exhaust.. the stock ecxhaust is too close to the regulator

Thanks for the feedback. So far, I haven't had this problem.

@@Lowfliers it also depends where you live in Greece p.e 37-40 celsius in the summer makes things worst..the previous owner of my bike replaced it at about 70.000km now i am at 78.000 you can easily and cheap install a voltage meter.if the voltage regulator goes bad you will know right away.But don't worry it's a cheap and easy fix.. also do you still have the bike? If yes what ia your milage now?

@Lowfliers4 ай бұрын

If Leonard Cohen made a motorcycle video this would be it. Item 6 - If you ride fast most of the time then raise the gearing a bit - one extra tooth on the sprocket. Item 7 - Speed wobble. Don't forget this bike has a larger front wheel for off-roading. The dynamics will be different from a road bike front wheel at speed. Item 11 - Maybe sell this and buy the road version, the Deauville.
@Lowfliers4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the compliment (I think). Big fan of Cohen, so ... Changing the gearing would indeed be my next step. Thanks for the tip. As far as the speed wobble is concerned: sure, the bigger wheel won't help, but there are plenty of bikes out there with the same size wheel and no wobble, so ... I don't like the Deauville. ☹️

I’ve owned one for 5 years. It’s just awesome. Impossible to open the throttle without smiling. The noise, the arse kicking torque, the nimble handling. Usual advice if you’re thinking of getting one… cam chain tensioners and rectifier. Change the air filter. Mine kept stalling when it was hot. The filter was a complete mess. I will not be selling it!
@Lowfliers4 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right about the smiles that this bike brings. So far, I haven't had an issue with the tensioners or the reg/rec. I'll see.

Jazeker!

Have owned one for over 20 years, get a spare voltage regulator, your gauges will go dead and then engine will stop as regulators overheat , weak battery accelerates burnout of poor stock regulator, replace with R6 finned regulator.

Amazing bikes ! In greece they are very common. You see them everywhere! Great reliability, great off road and i mean hard rocky cretan off road... i have a crf 300l and i drove the translasp 650 yesterday. I am amazed for its off road abilities! And the engine. oh.. this v tween has power everywhere.. you can do enything in 2 gear.. just pick up a line and this bike could deal with almost anything... oh and after 50 years , when the bike will be totally destroyed you can take the engine out and make a water pump for your well... the dominator on the other hand is better off roader , but worst all arounder and its engine needs definitely more maintenance and cheking the oil level , valves etc..
