Interesting to hear a bit of the 'other' side of whisky collecting. From behind the bar, as it were. Have found several extraordinary whisky bars over this past year, one in Toronto and another in a small town called Meaford, on the Bruce Peninsula northwest of T.O.. Tried some beauties in both. Favourites were a 25 Brora 1975-2001 IB by Douglas McGibbon & Co. (just...WOW), and a Craigellachie 19 1993-2012 (G&McP bottling). Mortlach 22 and an unpeated Caol Ila both also excellent. None of these drams, by the way, were cheap. But hey, you only live once! Enjoyed the run through of your list. Great to see an upload from you, as always...and also nice to see you looking somewhat less dark and blurry 😉 Cheers John! 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦

I think non-alcoholic spirits may also be more expensive because you need more herbs to get the same concentration of flavors as water-based distillation is a less efficient process. Regarding the taste, I would certainly not drink them neat, but some like Seedlip that have a "natural" aroma are quite nice in a mixed drink with tonic. It is important not to compare it to regular cocktails, but to other non-alcoholic alternatives like plain tonic water, lemonade etc.

I heard the legend of malort for decades before trying it. Then at a grocery atore tasting I tried it, aftee receiving all of the warnings. So my expectations were in the range of bitter musk. When I tasted it was like yellow grapefruit pith with simple syrup, mixed with floral gin and with a hint of pine. Which isn't that bad compared other spirits and beers. I have had far worse it is better than an several American IPA, low end whiskey, low quality malt liquors, most artificially roasted malt beers, and cheap tequila. I recommend mixing it with st Germain, gin, orange simple syrup, and some club soda. That way you can lean into it's bitter quality to had complexity, like adding grapefruit bitters to sprizer.

Old man and long time scotch drinker here. All I can tell you is most blended scotch in the USA has gotten worse. JW Red was a pretty decent drink decades ago. Now it tastes like slightly flavored alcohol. The only JW Scotch I like now are Black and perhaps Double-Black. The rest are not worth the price. You should know that I always preferred Dewar's White label Scotch but that has become completely undrinkable since the company wast taken over by Bicardi. It is just really bad. Oh and BTW- I always drink my Scotch neat.

I had way too high expectations of this (because of Ralfy, First Phil, and plenty others), so I was very disappointed at first, but it grew on me. What I did last week was to pour the rest of the bottle over in an empty 20 cl. I guess about 19 cl, and I topped the bottle with about 1 cl of GlenAllachie 10 (Batch 6). Tried it today, and man… that was special. Like drinking strawberry sauce or something 😂
