I thank the KZfaq gods for recommending me this video. This guy was actually more insightful and helpful than my drawing lecture. THANKS, @Phil Davies Artist

Thanks much for the brilliant tutorial & I will definitely have a go on it! I am a beginner & just bought a set of Caran d’ache water soluble pastel obsessed by their vibrant colors! I would love for a tutorial step by step for the tips & techniques for it! Thanks very much 🙏🙏

Thank you *so* much. There are some great art videos around, but it's not often that I spend just a couple of hours watching and feel that my entire approach to art has just shifted and (potentially) been made so very much better. I love animals, and (with practice) will now be able to approach drawing them with a simple, reliable and non-scary process. Loved your friendly teaching style and verbal descriptions of the "what, how and why" of everything too. It'll be animal drawings for everyone around these parts for Christmas this year 🙂. Once again, thanks sooo much for these videos.

I am just a colorist, beginner, this lesson taught me more about blending than any I have seen. Thank you. You’ve made me feel like I can learn and apply. I am 75, so who knows maybe I can be an artist!! I will follow you. Thanks

I love the whole series. Am so glad I found your channel. Thanks to these, I, the perfectionist, finally go "simplification" etched into my brain. But as far as following along... we don't have your Mad-Max-style "mash this" speed booster! Thanks a lot for everything, including the booklet. Subscribed.

Most people who have art videos lie about them being for beginners, but I feel like these tutorials have the perfect balance of both. Way to go!

What kind of paper are you using?

For crying out loud, this cannot be taught. It is simply for the naturally gifted. He just wants you to sign up for his courses and give him money. The simple reason I'm giving up watching these stupid youtube videos, and giving up art in general. It is simply talent, why can't people except this???

It doesn't work I'm afraid, I tried this years ago. Art is simply talent, like I constantly keep saying.

Thank you. A very useful exercise. I did use a blender pen, however, because I unwisely (I'm still experimenting with paper) used a textured pastel paper. Even pressing hard left lots of paper showing through but the blender worked well. Can you recommend paper that works well with coloured pencils?

You mention in the video, the "drawing essentials" course. I can't find reference to this course anywhere.

Thank you Phil! You are one of the best drawing teachers and your didactic and methodical tips are just great. You limit yourself to the essentials and so any layman can keep up.

Great video, thanks. I've been sketching on canvas with graphite pencils and I've tried using different fixatif to protect my final sketches but I can't find anything that seals the graphite and it still smudges. Is there any finish I can try? Thanks.

Nice tutorial, lots of good advice. I think the white gel pen is not archivable - so if you are selling your work, it might not be the best solution. What do you think about using white gouache paint.
