Is jasmine rice can do ?
@CookwithLarry5 күн бұрын
Jasmine rice will work with fried rice and sweet and sour pork. But I don’t think it will work with sushi sandwiches: it lacks the stickiness, which is essential to holding the shape of “bun”.

The only way to ruin rice is never learning how to properly cook rice in the first place. You don't need a rice cooker to cook rice. A Rice cooker is crutch for those who doesn't know how to cook. Once you've learned the proper procedure you can eyeball everything from the amount of rice to the amount of water; and you can cook it with or without a rice cooker or even cook it using hard3r method of wood or charcoal-cooking using a clay pot without ever burning the rice. The smell of the uncooked rice alone will tell you how old the rice is; ergo you can add the right amount of water with that alone. Older rice will always need more water and freshly threshing and milled rice needs less than the mass of the rice to be cooked. Dry varieties or Glutinous varieties of rice will not be a problem.

Hello! New sub here. Currently looking for a meal prep for everyday work and i found your channel. Great content! Btw, i just want to ask if it is okay to cook them all at once and then just put them in the fridge for later?
@CookwithLarryАй бұрын
Hi John, Thank you very much for sub. Any food consist of rice is not really suitable for fridge: low temperature will change the structure of starch, make it dry and hard. You will have to reheat the lunchbox to make rice soft and smooth again. This is the major reason why the store bought sushi always taste not as good as fresh made one. I will try to put more meal prep content into this channel. Thank you very much for your comment!

I don't think cooking dumpling in microwave is a good idea. If you have a steamer, try to steam it. if not, cooking the dumpling in boiling water for 6 min also works very well.

Does it work with homemade dumplings too? I make them with raw meat and homemade dough
@cherie..cherry3 ай бұрын
Yes, this is exactly how I make my raw dumplings. Just know you will need to add a bit more water and for it to cook a bit longer since the inside is raw. Also bc the filling is still raw, I personally add a bit of broth or seasoning to the water :))
@CookwithLarryАй бұрын
It works for homemade dumplings as well. For fresh one, reduce cooking time 1-2 minutes, for frozen one, just use same cooking time.

I think the "round" one should be OK. No dumplings are perfectly round, there is alway a small flat surface there, it is totally OK for panfrying.

He gives a lil bit more advice about cooking them in a skillet. Think he says gotta preheat the oil in the skillet first I think. Um damn I just read it. Lol well it’s in the comment he wrote back to illegalheadgehog comment. Hope it helps.
@CookwithLarryАй бұрын
All non-stick pans will start to degrade after a few month. When the bottom is covered by a light brown layer, it is not suitable for the method in the video anymore. Alternately, you can try to use a cast iron skillet, preheat gently, some oil, then arrange the dumplings quickly .

why not preheat the oil?
@CookwithLarry5 ай бұрын
It will take some time to arrange all dumplings, if the oil was preheated, the cooking time for first one will be significantly longer than the last one. Of course if you use cast iron frying pan, you will have to preheat the oil, otherwise the dumplings will stick to the pan and become a pile of unpleasant mess.

pro tip: you do not need to measure, learn how to eye ball it. in many recipes you just need enough water to moisten or cover something, and that is something you can eyeball. simply pour enough water to coat the bottom and youre good.
