Crossing the Pacific with only an electronic self steering on a boat with spade rudders? Yikes.

Blue water sailing is amazing. I sailed most of the time 30’ under the water in the Atlantic,Med and Indian Ocean onboard an Aircraft Craft Carrier in the engine room. Thanks for sharing your adventures and God bless your paths ahead

Commerson's dolphins! Very rare and you found them in one of about two areas separated by 130 degrees of longitude. With the exception of Sea World's Aquatica in Orlando. LOL I'm working on catching up to where you are now, but I just want to drop a word of encouragement and thanks. Thank you for always thinking of the viewer at home and bringing us along as if we were with you. Rest assured, this viewer is. I also have a little channel and know what a massively time consuming thing it is to shoot, edit, render, upload and then do all the YT settings for a video and then get it flowing onto social media channels. So thank you. Fair winds and following seas.

Yeah powered autopilots are often a point of failure. Have you guys considered a hydrovane ? We had one which was fantastic. Almost spooky how well it steered without power.
@SailingSweetRuca2 күн бұрын
We just took apart the failed hydraulic ram and found the problem! Based on what we found (we will share in an upcoming video) that wave would have broke any other self steering mechanism as well. We are glad the ram broke instead of something else. Lots of force!!! As for wind vanes, we have to cover that one day as well! Cheers!

I have followed you guys for a long while and it appears your adventures have tempered you a bit. Early on, you were 'racers" you were "expert" and while you still are, you are now a bit more chill. I cannot explain it well but, I love you stuff and your humbled persona...It's what adventures do for those willing to undertake them.

Might consider installing some mast mount fold down steps in the areas you have to go up to regularly. You'll be able to flip them down and have footings for avoiding dead legs when you have to, um, hang out up there.. ;)

I've sailed both. Can't stand Cats. They are more like driving a bus. Also, unless you are willing to spend mega-dollars, there are very few that are robust enough to hold up to cruising, they break a lot. Also, the operating expense of dual engines, plus all the other comfort doo-dads people pack on them, is way more expensive than a monohull. Also, two of the top video cruisers, Sailing Doodles and Zingaro both ditched their cats. Gone with the Wynns came close to loosing theirs when their escape hatches in the hulls almost popped out (apparently not uncommon) and they also had ceiling panels fall out while sailing due to hull flex....
