Just what I needed, got my new motor today installing tomorrow. My old motor only lasted 4 seasons in PA, the bottom was rusty and the entire area on the motor side of the mounting plate, and the facing surface of the motor surrounding the shaft was coated with crusty salt, assuming the motor shaft seal went bad. Do you recommend covering the motor with those cheapy plastic housing units. My original Hayward pump lasted 10 yrs, but the 2nd Century only lasted 4. Probably my fault for not catching the motor seal leak but it seems premature. Any thoughts. Really appreciate the video and the pace was excellent, great details.

Thanks for the input! Motors these days aren’t going to last as long as the old ones. I was talking to a supplier, and the steel isn’t as good as the pumps 20-30 years ago. The best thing you can do is keep a clean and clear equipment pad that allows plenty of air flow around the equipment, and check for leaks regularly.

Great video. Would you recommend putting a lubricant sealer on the O-ring before replacing the top?
@pool-aidpros
@pool-aidpros 2 ай бұрын
Only if you can’t get a seal the first try or two. And if you use a PTFE based lube I recommend replacing the o-ring the next time you take the filter apart. The lube breaks down the rubber.

This solution is for thermal expansion, where the lid expands and wedges itself into the niche. If the concrete around the skimmer has settled or shifted and caused the skimmer to warp, this will not help.

FYI, it took me and my son in law 2 hours to remove the factory gasket. Prior to removal of the spider gasket, I had a daily leak of two inches of water every day and was told not to worry it's evapiration. Wrong! On further inspection after replacing only the top round gasket (prior to knowing what a spider gasket was) the the small round clear site guage was not full as it should be which is an indication I was losing water. The spider gasket was the culprit all along. Warning, after you purchase the new gasket make sure the new gasket is the right size by laying it over the old gasket. Twice I was given a gasket that was about a guarter inch two small. Since my handle is hard to move, i discovered through pool videos that my handle gaskets need to be replaced. I will when they come in stock.

Don’t bother cleaning filters it’s a fools errand… the hose can never remove the algae and grime stuck in the core of the pleats. Just replace the cartridges every year!

This service can vary in price with various factors, primarily number of cartridges. I do not include cost of filter cleaning in my monthly service cost, but I know of services that do.

I might be on the wrong here, but i have a electronic pressure washer, it has very low pressure compare to gas washer and the gun is spraying a 45 degrees water nozzle, it wont cut through the skin but is very strong still, used it in my filter for years. I do have an extra new filter just in case but I haven’t seem the need or damage in the old one yet just saying. I like the video and everything you used in here. And well edited
@pool-aidpros
@pool-aidpros Жыл бұрын
I’m not saying you definitely ARE damaging your filter by using high pressure, but the damage may not be visible. What improves the filtration of the cartridges are glass fibers woven into the fabric. High pressure can break or dislodge those fibers, reducing the filtration of the cartridge. You may not cause tears in the fabric, but high pressure cleaning may reduce the efficiency of the filter. Also, this degradation happens over time anyway. So damage is being done through use and normal cleaning, but possibly more quickly with high pressure. As a reminder, cartridges should be change every 3 years or so. Hope this helps! 👍🏼

Buy a trash can at home depot. But a drain with a screw end. Cut a hole the size of the drain and add the drain in the center of the trash can. Spray the cartridge in the trash can and drain everything in you sewage main drain. That’s what I did

This is definitely an option, and how most of the cleaning solutions tell you to do the job. Unfortunately this takes 12 to 24 hours, which pool pros just don’t have and most home owners don’t want to invest. This way is faster and does just as good of a job cleaning the filter. Thanks for watching!

Low flow from dirty filters can cause algae to build for sure. You may also want to check your combined chlorine and phosphate levels if clean filters do not resolve this issue. Thanks for watching!

I had huge algae problem when I came back from vacation. Put 4 gallons of chlorine in the pool and let it sit for 24 hours, cleaned filters, brushed down walls and ran pump for 24 hours. Vacuum up dead algae. Then cleaned filters again. Algae totally gone.

I noticed that you’re using the blue vacuum head made out of a semi-flexible rubber material with the white wheels. I believe it is one of the same one I have, as I have about 4 or 5 different vacuum heads. But if it is the same one I have it sits very low to the ground as the centerline of the wheels are mounted almost even with the body, the long blue part of rubber, of the vacuum in order for it to sit closer to the floor of the pool. My question is this, is this the best vacuum head that you have found by using or are there better, more efficient or maybe picks up better, ones out there? The one I have like the one in the video sits so low to the floor of the pool that you’d be hard pressed to pick up any little twigs or less than flat leaves or even bigger bugs and/or tree nuts such as acorns or what not, that may find it’s way to the bottom of your pool. I have some trees near my pool so it’s always something in there throughout the course of a day. I also run a Polaris self cleaner that runs 4 to 5 hours a day which does a bang up job but it tends to run the same areas or paths, if you will, throughout the day and doesn’t do corners very well and it doesn’t do steps at all. So, just looking for the best vacuum head without any kinds of brushed attached to it just to pick up dirt, the occasional dead/alive algae, small bugs and insects and whatever other very small debris AFTER thoroughly brushing the pool. I won’t be brushing while vacuuming so I don’t need anything attached to the vacuum head such as brushes and what not. Sorry that I’m repeating myself at times and thank you for the excellent video and thanks in advance for your response on the vacuum.
@pool-aidpros
@pool-aidpros 2 жыл бұрын
When it comes to vacuuming through the pools filtration, the type of vacuum head is pretty limited to what I use in the video and the brush-style head. Sometimes, if there is some bigger debris, I will try to spot skim with a net before I vacuum. If there is a lot of large debris, I use an electric leaf vac(such as a Bottom Feeder, Hammer Head, Power Vac or Riptide). Honestly, I know the backyard is not ALL about the pool, but I always say the landscaping is one of the most important factors in pool maintenance. If it were me, I would look into trimming trees back, or cutting them down all together within a certain distance to preserve the pool if they are that much of a problem.

The lid expands because of heat, and gets stuck. The cool water shrinks the lid in its niche, allowing the lid to come out.

Yep, elevated back yard against a retaining wall. That is what I have in the new house I just bought, and I had to go through the process of cleaning out all the dirt that had run into the pool. I found out the retaining wall behind my pool didn't have any gravel back-filling. There was red clay packed in over the french drain preventing it from draining appropriately, along with some extra trash from the construction crew.
