It’s unfortunate, because from this fight alone I can tell that if CM Punk was given the years to develop properly as a fighter, he would have been pretty darn good, particularly on the ground. He had a solid base, and kept his feet under him throughout the fight ( except when he was getting tagged of course. ) . The use of his double jab in round one was noteworthy as well, ( he even used it to close the distance and clinch ), and secure a takedown, pretty impressive for a guy with no real combat sports experience, against a pro. ( even if that pro is far from being the best ). He lacked the ringctaft, decision-making & I.Q, to truly pose a threat to Mike Jackson, these are things that can only be attained, after years upon years of rigorous & meticulous drilling, positional sparring, and live completion against fighters at your level, or a bit better. Punk did not have the timeframe to experience & learn from those, and this is was the result. But even in this result he showed me quite a lot, an intelligent use of the jab, and a somewhat diverse kicking game and a capacity to secure a clinch against the fence and eventually a take down from way out in the open, all displayed against a guy significantly ahead of him skill & experience. Not a bad showing for him in the least. Atrocious look for Mike tho.

I love how much smack BJ talked leading up to this fight and then quit. Made every excuse in the book afterwards. Lost so much respect for him after that fight.
