I wish so badly that I could rewild my yard but due to regulations I'm not able to :( I filled some planters with native pollinator plants and I love watching bees do their thing. Just wish I could scale it up!

As another water source for your wildlife habitat in the Texas heat, id recommend a bird bath at ground level, I just use plastic bottoms to some pots I had laying around. It mimics natural puddles for birds to bathe/drink but can also be accessed by ground dwelling animals

It’s interesting how men and women both speak with vocal fry, but seemingly only women ever get criticized for it 🤔 and anyway hers is so incredibly subtle that I’m amazed somebody felt bothered and entitled enough to ask a person they don’t know to change the way they speak

It’s your yard you should be able to do with it as you want, but putting up signs and calling it a while life habitat is not an excuse for being too lazy to keep your lawn looking halfway decent

What part of officially certified do you not understand? Perhaps you need to return to elementary school? Relearn grammar while you’re at it.

it's a wildlife habitat because she purposely planted native plants for pollinators. she puts it in A LOT of work--anything but lazy. she didn't just let it overgrow and throw up a sign. she killed the grass and planted all native species to help wildlife in her area thrive. that's what certified wildlife habitat means.

The irony that I have put far far more work into this than anyone with grass ever did 😭 if you leave your yard as the developer made it there’s much less work I assure you (at least in the first couple years)

I’m just curious, why do you live in the suburbs when you know having a “natural” landscape will be unwelcome by the majority of your neighbors?
@bunnyellabell

the suburbs should be nature-friendly too! but it could totally just be bc finding housing is so hard.

I live here bc I want to live in a city where I have access to things I care about and people that share my values. I can do what I want with my property regardless of the silly thoughtless opinions of people. I thrive where minds need to be changed so it’s not a problem but a challenge for me anyway. It’s also where the work needs to be done, if I moved to nature (where I didn’t have the access I want) the work wouldn’t be as needed. It’s also not unwelcome by the majority, just the older folks who don’t think through their opinions or actions 🤷‍♀️ also jobs are in the city, I serve my local gov I mean the list goes on and on. It’s not my problem that people have opinions - it’s their problem that they chose to live in an HOA free neighborhood

Sometimes the best places to make impactful changes are in the worst areas. And worst is of course subjective to the topic at hand. In this case, suburbs and cities being one of the worst offending with manicured lawns. Or that's at least how I try to view things when dealing with the constant slog of trying to make impactful changes in the city. And there's also other factors such as living in or near a city can be more sustainable in terms of car use, community, and shopping local/supporting small businesses. It's never just one thing.

Same girl, same. I’m the only one in my little suburban corner of Philly planting native plants and putting out little dishes with stones for the insects. I have had so many people stop and look and I hope my neighbors follow my lead. Screw the lawn, grow natives! That’s my motto 😂

We live in an apartment that we don’t own but across the street from us there is a sidewalk area with planter boxes that nobody takes care of. The house next to it is rented out and people don’t care to tend to land that they don’t own. It’s overgrown with invasive foxtail grass which is really bad for dogs. We just started pulling it out and I’m gonna look into some native plants to put there instead

With any pulp I always make it into an applesauce. Sometimes not even adding apples and only using the pulp fruit and adding sugar, honey or agave to flavor it if it’s not as sweet as you’d like it to be and then I keep it refrigerated. It usually doesn’t last very long in my home as my husband eats it all in one day. 😂🍉
