I am just in my second month of learning, but this is a brilliant idea as I am learning scales right now. BTW, the link for the scale card does not work.

Thanks for letting me know about the link. It takes youtube a couple of months to make a link valid (sigh) if you go to www.pianokeyfinders.com you will find the cards in the shop.

An overhead camera view of keys pressing would be helpful.

Found you in my YT feed. I don't know how to play the piano but I enjoy listening to the blues. I am trying to learn the harmonica to one day bend notes to play the blues. Your instruction was straight-forward and well presented. I have a few suggestions. Can you 1) set up the camera to show fingering better; 2) add the clips that should be watched prior to this one. I have a keyboard and want to give this a try. I will check out your other videos and the website. Thanks for brightening my day.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. On the camera question, are you asking because you want to know which fingers to play, or, which keys are being played? If it's purely the fingering, you can get a free pdf download of the exercise here: www.pianokeyfinders.com/post/blues-with-both-hands-1 It has both the notes and the fingering written out if you are playing in the key of C. I haven't found a camera angle that I'm in love with. With an overhead view, sometimes the keys being depressed are obscured. It's one of the reasons I made the cards for my students. From their perspective at the piano, they can see their hands and the keys they should be playing at the same time. When you have to look back and forth from a screen and your hands, it makes it harder, especially when moving from one chord to the next. The cards help students learn chord progressions, rather than single chords. I'll keep experimenting with camera angles. I'll definitely be linking clips. These are all relatively new, once I record the next several I'll connect them. Great idea. :-)

I have been experimenting while practicing using your transposing idea...it's good ear training and learning how to use the intervals for each key. 🎉

That's awesome! Today I had students play the whole circle of 5ths using the opening from Deck the Halls. Last week we were using the first two bars of the Petzold Minute in G. We start minors tomorrow,

Wonderful! I'm not a jazz player. Would similar cards be available for, say, country music?

They could certainly be created. Send me an email with an example of something you would like to play and I can play around with it to see what works. [email protected]

Helpful tool! One thing about artists is that we understand everyone is a little bit different from everyone else-so naturally, we don’t all learn the same way. I’d be nice if traditional schools understood this too. Your cards look like a helpful tool to learn the concepts and patterns. I like the idea!
