There are several trails in the photos in the opening montage. They are as follows: First - On top of Springer Mountain (Southern Terminus of the AT) Second - Along the AT (Virginia Triple Crown section hike, seen between Tinker Cliffs and Daleville, VA). Third - Spruce Flat Falls (Smokies); Fourth - Tinker Cliffs (on the AT in Virginia) Fifth - The Jump-Off (Smokies) Sixth - McAfee Knob (AT in Virginia) We have videos of these places on our channel.

@@laurarandolph5600 We have been to several National Parks and hiked 100’s of miles in them. Not including the miles we have put in on the Appalachian Trail. I visited the cave in 1977 with my husband and it was a great place to visit. I had nightmares for many years after I had to climb up that fire tower inside the cave after seeing how tall it was. I had many dreams about that tower for years and years. I guess we need to go back and make more memories. I am sure there are more things to see too. We stayed in one of the cabins.

Sorry to hear about your nightmares. That is horrible. We didn’t have the opportunity to check out the cabins. I would suggest going back. I would like to go back and do another cave tour and hike a few more trails. Plus do some night hiking for star gazing. One nice thing about this National Park, is the gateway city is not too crowded like Gatlinburg (Great Smoky Mountains) and Bar Harbor (Acadia), etc. So it is easy entrance and exit to the park.

This video is a fantastic preview and "what to expect". I've got an opp to join a group next year in June to hike this trail and spend the night at the Lodge. I fully admit that the idea of some of these narrow paths with the cable hand holds leave me feeling a little bit squirrely, but from your video, it doesn't look like tip-toeing on a balance beam or that those spots go on for too long. Part of me says I'll be okay, but another part says my stomach is going to flip and my knees turn to jello!

Don’t worry. You will be fine. Just take your time through any of those narrower areas. It is well worth the effort. The views are amazing. We stayed at the lodge on our first climb to the summit and it was a lot of fun. If the night is clear, the stars are plentiful. Can’t wait to hike to LeConte again. The trail is very busy up to Alum Cave, most people turn around at that point. Go early, and it will be easier to find a parking spot and there are far fewer hikers on the trail between 6 - 7 AM.

It is hard to beat LeConte. So many great views (Especially from Cliff Tops at sunset.). The hike to LeConte is more challenging, with more views and the GA heat can be a bit miserable. I like Len Foote and would go back. Not as rustic of an experience as LeConte but the amenities are better and they do have evening presentations at the Len Foote Hike Inn. It was cool to hike the approach trail to the AT and check out the Southern Terminus of the AT. But the views from Springer Mountain are a bit anti-climatic. In my opinion it is worth a trip. Amicalola Falls are a spectacular sight as well. We would like to stay there again for one night, and then leave and do a section hike from Springer to Neels Gap.

Thanks for the compliment. That is a great question. I am not exactly sure. I have always made reservations on-line ahead of time so I could pick my spot and make sure it was available for the duration of our stay and not have to move sites everyday. Sites can fill up so you may get there an not have any available. However, the times we have been there have been mixed. All scented items, as well as all water containers MUST be stored. Dispose of garbage promptly in dumpsters provided. Unattended or improperly stored coolers, food and/or scented items may be impounded by campground staff. Violators are subject to fines. • Dispose of garbage promptly in bear-proof dumpsters. Last time I hiked up was in the mid 1990s. There were no stairs, just extremely steep dirt and rock sections. It was STEEP! Tried going the unofficial back trail but it was so steep my fear of heights kicked in and had to move back. The worst part of the trail was the final ridge top going to the chimney tops rocks. Had to step on eroded, slick rhododendron roots to get there and back. Couldn’t make it to the top of the rock because fear of heights and the yellow jackets nest in the rocks. I loved going up the road prong trail to sit on some rocks beside the stream and one of the waterfalls to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s a section just after the spur where the forest floor flattens out before getting to the road prong stream that I always felt a “presence”. It wasn’t threatening. I was like being observed by someone from a distance.

Thank you for watching. Glad you liked the video. October is typically the driest month in the Smokies. However, the peaks of the Smokies can get over 80” of rain per year and that makes them a temperate rainforest classification. Avoid May, as this is typically the wettest month in the park. Also October is very busy with tourist for fall colors so be prepared for crowds. We have a rule. Cloudy days we do water falls, clear forecast we do mountain tops. Well we hike and get wet. LOL. Hope this helps.
