My 2022 Outback Wilderness was rear-ended in a construction zone at something over 50mph. It sits a little higher so the striking vehicle (2023 Malibu) actually went under it a bit. Otherwise, my car and this test vehicle looked a lot a like. In its final hiway moments, the Subaru pulled itself over to the shoulder (with real wheels dragging), and I was greeted by Subaru Of America, asking me if I had been in an automobile accident, if I was injured, and if I would like them to call 911. Yes, please. I walked away with minor injuries - no whiplash. I purchased another one. Two years newer, same color.

Mind blowing that that is only 20mph. Very unrealistic. 40+ you'd probably die

What does it mean when the hazards blink after an accident?

Some manufacturers have that programmed to happen after SRS deployment or a crash.

Why did the headlights turn on after it struck the pole?
@CarPro19935 күн бұрын
It was likely caused my the door panel or curtain airbag striking the light switch stalk.

Does it actually matter or make any difference if the airbag breaks the windshield?
@lukeheffernan3 күн бұрын
Not really, but to me, it's an indication that the passenger airbag is deploying too rapidly, which can cause injury. Plus, I think less shattered glass in the car the better.

Would have been better if the test could have both vehicles in motion at same speed... The tranfer of energy by trailblazer can be felt and seen on Accord..but it dtill held very well.. Wonder if both were in motion .. trailblazer would have rolled over and impact vould have been at different level..
@Justin-ny8df8 күн бұрын
At that speed, it performed better than I thought it would.

THAT'S how a bumper is supposed to work!! Not cracking into 100 pieces of plastic bits, while the rear end of the vehicle collapses in 3 feet!! New bumper, and a couple rear doors, good as new, NOT TOTALED!!!
@glanzera9 күн бұрын
Modern bumpers work the same way. Bumpers are not made of plastic. Bumper covers are lol.

The airbag did its job, but there's too much intrusion into the passenger cell during the impact and the dummy head pushes the airbag out of the door frame... Anyway, the Daewoo Kalos of this generation didn't have strong doors and bumpers; seems like a fragile sedan/hatch with the strength of a supermini, just that it's wider and longer to provide more interior space and some false sense of peace of mind...
