Keith, I currently have two varas, one pretty stock looking and the other more off-road capable. I'd suggest to keep it as is, and if you feel sporty, go for the VTR1000. That way you'll have best of both worlds with almost the same engine. At one point I had the ST1100, the vara and the VTR1000. A really nice combo for my needs... and you're nearly there!

It seems to be a common problem on ST's, i also replaced the clutch hose for a HEL version and also put an extra rubber hose over the top as the hose sits near the exhaust and is prone to heat issues, you should see the state of the clutch slave, really gunked up in the video. also changed out the thermostat switch for one from a Honda Deauville, kicks the fan in early, never had a problem since

Hello Keith. I just discovered your channel as I was looking for an ST1100 oil change video. I just bought Allen Millyard's old green ST, (if you know who he is?) It seems in fine condition but I'm checking it over, as one does with any old bike one's just purchased. I expect I'll be looking at your back catalogue of videos in the near future. Whatever you do, or don't do, from this point forward, the 500+ videos you've already posted will have helped more people than you will ever know. Many more people will be helped if you keep it up, *but only do it if it helps you* Good luck for the future mate. 👍👍👍👍👍

I am envious of your tidy garage, occasionally (very,very) I have a tidy up, but in a few weeks its like a tip again. I enjoy the 'everyday man' type resto channels, where there is a realistic budget, unlike some channels which just seem to 'buy and replace' with a limitless pile of cash available

Hey Keith good to hear from you again, don't be ashamed of anything man if people don't understand they either haven't been through any rough times or there just cold hearted. It's been a few months since i left you any coments but the last time was just after my wife passed and still don't get out in my shop much like i use to. I know what you mean about the counseling, i just don't lay out my life to strangers, I'm trying to get through it my way and my speed, it's slow work. So hang in there mate, the subscribers of the channel understand or i hope they do, better days ahead for both of us. Thanks for the up date do what you can do and don't worry about the naysayers. You put out the videos when you can i for one will stay tuned in. Have a good day mate and have a better tomorrow.

Not the place for me to say this really but I feel the unbalance you feel daily, highs are super high and lows are super low. I’d never end my life but I do go out and ride recklessly late on an evening as my escape one in a blue moon when shit gets bad. It’s a relief to have made it home each time but the feeling before hand is hell, the path forward is all we can look at and we can’t worry about what other see in our paths. At my current time in life I can admit and deal with a lot of my issues and I know I have a lot to live for. The bumps in the road get deep real quick but keep moving forward and you soon climb the other side, without the lows in life the high would not feel like highs so I always say to everyone, be thankful for your difficulties as it makes you the person you are! People like to label it as depression or many other things but it’s the roller coaster of life we all deal with. Don’t mean to sound heartless by that but sometimes you must be brutally honest with yourself and remember you are the purpose in your life!
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 11 күн бұрын
Not heartless at all, a lot of meaningful words there, i appreciate you taking the time to comment, i would never give up, every obstacle i tackle is a goal to overcome and move forward, some small that most take for granted, but huge for me, i want to ride again and in time i will, but walk before i can run so to say

Having restored a Z650 and had similar problems with the carbs, I watched your last vids on your 650 and I'm sure the issue you have is due to worn float valves and or seats. They can stick open.. leading to the carb flooding, or they can stick closed.. leading to no petrol in the float bowl. Sometimes a float valve can stick open one day and stick closed the next.. very frustrating! BTW is the Yamaha yoke from a R6? Fitted an R6 to my current 650 project, and ended up cutting off the ignition barrel mount like you did. Look forward to seeing your future vids, just do the work when you feel like. For a while I made a vid a week, but in the end it felt like work, so now I make a vid when I want...
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 29 күн бұрын
Appreciate your comment, all the jets/valves were all replaced with new, carbs were ultrasonic cleaned as well, thats what confuses me, something isnt right but just cant find it, the Yamaha yokes are from an FZR1000 EXUP RU
@Merch131ho
@Merch131ho 29 күн бұрын
@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder I had a similar problem on my 650B.. stripped and cleaned the carbs, new valve seats and needles, checked float height etc. No matter what I did, one cylinder wouldn't fire. Had a good spark, and when I sprayed petrol straight down the carb bore, the cylinder fired up instantly. For some reason that carb just didn't move fuel into the engine. In the end, used another set of carbs and even without cleaning those, the engine ran fine at last. The first set of carbs are sitting on a shelf, waiting for some inspiration...

Hi I've got a 1998 Honda Varadero XL 1000 having trouble with rear brakes not releasing replaced seals in rear master cylinder and seals in rear brake caliber and replaced pads and rotor still locking up, but releases after awhile, can't get replacement parts to old. is there a way to use parts from newer bikes. I 'am in Australia. Thanks Gary
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder

the brake system should be CBS so the middle piston in the rear caliper is controlled by the front brake, same as the middle piston in the front is controlled by the rear, i get a majority of my parts from wemoto.com they have a branch in Australia - www.wemoto.com.au your model should be an SD01 which ran upto 2001, then the model changed, hope that helps

Hello from Spain! thanks for the video. I just bought the same motorbike & I’m very happy that a found one cheap with low mileage 24k to be exactly from 1999. I saw at the end of your video when you fired up the varadero that white smoke from the exhaust. I wondering if this is normal because I have the same white smoke when I fire up the bike with the cold engine. 😅

the same thing has happened today in the morning to me, my facebook page with 18K followers has been hacked , then about 20mins ago i created a new page with the same name afterwards somebody texts me in the new page, and asks if my page is hacked, i tell him yes. then he checks it out and confirms that yes it has been hacked with the p23x hacking device. at that moment i felt very happy bcoz the guy sent me the real screenshot of my page, but to my surprise he demanded $85 so than he can bring back the page, thats alot of money, i cant afford to be honest. Can it be the same guy who hacked it that hes trying to get my money????
