Common joke about the French reactors. Might be an ounce of truth to it. However, Benelux region is highly built up--so is Western Germany. Its true those power stations provide a lot of electricity to nearby customers, which France earns tons of money from. Always good to be near your customers in any business--electricity is no different.

¡Fascinating video and history of the 14! Thank you. I liked most of the video but the animation made my eyes feel ill and I had to look away. This doesn't happen with animated movies, so there was something about that particular animation.

I remember when I was young once I saw the "thunderstorm", it was like a fog in the whole area for the plants, but it was in fact water being made into a mist and falls on the plants. Now that you say it, it would be cool if they made the lights for the planets turn off and on during this time, to really sell the thunderstorm !

As a Parisian, I can confirm that I've already seen the plants getting sprayed with water. I don't know if this process is done often but I definitively saw that while being in the train. It is more like a very small mist coming from pipes above than a thunderstorm inside the station really ( or maybe I've never seen it :D )
@MindTheMapАй бұрын
Someone else commented that the thunderstorms are real - even with flashes - so it seems there is something that goes beyond simple watering...
@FuritokamaАй бұрын
I confirm that the thunderstorm mode exists. The space is in a dark mode, there are flashes and sounds of lightning and rain. I've seen it several times ! EDIT : I have video but unfortunately a creaking noise from the escalator masks the soundscape of the storm. 😅

At 3:19 we can see water pipes above the steel structure. Since plants need water, it is not impossible that there are sprinklers that make “rain” fall from above. And yes.....in one month, opening of two sections north and south from Pleyel to Orly Airport.

I doubt they would spray water from overhead like that: it'd be a nightmare of upkeep with the exposed concrete nearby. Now, this is just a guess, but I think a root-watering system would make more sense. Though these are tropical looking plants so maybe some humidity in the air is necessary?
@MindTheMapАй бұрын
Especially since it wasn't originally constructed for plants - so there are loads of questions concerning drainage and so on... Would truly love to see how the watering or "thunderstorms" work!

@@MindTheMapAlso, was mich wirklich mal interessieren würde, wäre, warum du deine Videos auf Englisch machst.
@JP_TaVeryMuchАй бұрын
Our host is too much of a gentleman to say what follows, but as you alluded the Englisch narration is pretty much a necessity if one wants to progress in You Tube land. More views, more potential ad revenue, more potential to produce more videos. It's the way of the world, I don't need to tell you, but I rejoice in the use of his own voice. Chuß.
@MindTheMapАй бұрын

Pretty much on point, the potential views especially on niche subjects are much higher. There also is a big established audience in the English speaking Transit and Urbanism niche on KZfaq - and a great community. With all that come more potential opportunities, the Ground News sponsorship I got recently for example would not have been possible with a purely German speaking audience. The accent is a downside - at the same time I feel it is somewhat more authentic that a posh British AI voice or paying someone on Fiverr to read my scripts.

living in communist romania we had this idea that the RDG and pehaps Yougoslavia were the best communist countries - ok, the least bad ones - to live in. escaping to or just travelling was very difficult as the govt would not deliver a passport. some citizens deemed less at risk of fleeing would sometimes obtain a passport but only to travel to the other comunist countries. many of these did not return to romania, demanded asylum, their belongings in romania have been confiscated. the good news is if they had children, these could reach their parent after a few months or years. everyone wanted to leave the communist country, the west was a dream. we don't know how many people were shot for trying to cross the borders, it is believed to be into the tens of thousands over the years. the number did increase towards the end of the regime with 1989 having the most escape attemps - one of which being the infamous Nadia Comaneci who escaped from Romania just one month before Ceausescu was shot. Ceausescu was enraged about her. those captured alive during these escapes - the ones who did talk after 1990, have been beaten for weeks. the political police was like raging dogs. the irony is, those who managed to reach the west didn'y fare better. coming from a communist country into the competitive capitalist world must have been a new, unexpected life long trauma for many. none was really prepared or had any kind of experience for the western job market. imagine the struggle.

The USA has a simply awful pedestrian safety record over the last decade or more. In 2023, pedestrian fatalities reached a 41 year high, with an 80% increase since 2010. A lot of this comes down to the massive growth in the type of vehicles that are popular in the US market. Huge trucks and SUVs with high hoods, poor visibility of pedestrians and massive weight. The Cybetruck is part of that trend, and has very unforgiving stainless body panels with sharp, rigid edges. All the reviews say that it's got awful visibility both front and, of course, back too.
