85 black with gold cobra stripes. I had the spoked wheels. For five hundred dollars it really wasn't that bad.

Congratulations. You bought scrap metal that a scrapyard would never buy crushed even if anybody would haul it because its a "compact" and half fiberglass, plastic, rubber and "plaid" by weight. And its "super complete" except the entire interior besides the shifter and "plaid". No column - which is why you're steering it "direct" and maybe no steering gear, drag link etc. No instrument panel. Probably no wiring. No air cleaner means the 345 is full of rust and even if not "froze" will certainly need bored. Which is "problematic" with 345s and their "thin wall casting" blocks. They're basically throwaway engines which is why IH stuck to 304s in medium duty trucks and the GOOD Scouts and IH pickups. 304s also generally run circles around 345s anyway. To make the 345 seem "sporty" the other optional engine back then and one that makes a TRULY RARE SCOUT IS THE NISSAN 6-CYLINDER TURBODIESEL. All your "edition" shit is truly hilarious especially given the "rarity" of those so-called "editions" is 100% based upon them being worthless turd polish and nobody but "select dealers" being stupid enough to order them for "stock" and THEN they were usually "loaners" for "big rig" drivers waiting for their OTR truck or possibly farmers waiting for their straight truck to be serviced. Probably the former because those "editions" are dead inline with the IH Transtar tacky factor circa the late 1970s when IH wasn't even barely holding on. They also got handed to parts departments and salesmen as "company trucks" and many Scouts of that "vintage" never LEFT the dealer lot. I did my tech school "internship" at an International Trucks dealership in Lincoln, NE and ALL our "shop trucks" were Scouts. Including a Nissan turbodiesel w/manual trans and a "sporty" Scout "wagon" like that blue pile with a 345 4-barrel and GM TH350 trans. It would run pretty good and even "bark" the tires going into 2nd gear but despite being "one owner" - the dealership - and "low miles" - I think around 75,000 in 1993 - and only ever driven on pavement in the city it was pretty much a rattletrap POS. And it had the "hard top" with solid side windows instead of those joke sliders. The Nissan diesel Scout was a "pickup" and it was a little tank. It'd start in any weather with the glow plugs and we'd put fuel in it about once a month whether it needed it or not. It was the "service truck" that went out to check out, repair or jump start/thaw out "dead" OTR trucks and with a compressor and gas-powered generator/jump "pack" in the back along with a kerosene space heater it could "rescue" damn near any "big rig" whether dead on the road or on the lot. Many times it pulled semi tractors and straight trucks into the shop from the lot and once or twice towed one a few miles on the streets of Lincoln, NE. There is nothing "rare" about bullshit "editions" that first and foremost don't even have options that match the "package" name. Midas was a king that turned everything he touched into gold. WTF does that have to do with that horrendous green "plaid" interior or the "his and hers sunroofs" or "spotlights" for "rear seat passengers" that were nothing but misplaced "map lights" out of Transtar semi tractors? Absolutely nothing. Which is probably the "green plaid" is the "rarest" interior nightmare available in a "Midas edition". I'd also be VERY surprised if those "editions" were actually "factory equipment" and not the work of some "conversion" outfit trying to cash in on the "custom" truck and van "craze" of the late 70s too late. Sure as shit they don't remotely fit IH's "no frills work trucks" image and that's evidenced by their "rarity".

"Some of the fastest Fox body Mustangs..." Yeah. But "some of the fastest" doesn't really mean anything and the fact is THE "fastest" Fox body Mustangs are the plain old stripped down "notchback" LXs. Why? Because they weigh dozens to hundreds of pounds less than the "racy" LOOKING GTs with "body kits" and all the other drag and/or weight adding optional equipment. And those "rare" Mustangs are "tuner cars". Nothing more or less. None were "built" anywhere but a Ford assembly line and there is no separate VIN or "book value" on or for any of them no matter how they are "presented" to "collectors". And Lee's Summit is in Missourie. Not Kansas. Nor are there now or were there ever "lots of hot Mustangs running around the Kansas City area" unless it was these tuner cars being test driven after being "built". Unless by HOT you mean coolant temp because THAT is certainly true about those tuner cars with their "hot engines" because like Mustangs prior to the SN96 their cooling systems were never more than barely adequate even with "cold" stock engines in lighter weight LXs and adding "body kits" and additional drag and "insulation" in "ground effects" keeping heat in and under the cars in anything close to hot and humid conditions at "high speed" would still overheat. And stay hot parked and idling hood down and AC on even with "cool" white paint color. The Nebraska State Patrol found that out when using 5.0 LX Mustangs for "pursuit" once the interstate speed limit went to 65 and then 75. They'd overheat "pursuing" speeders clocked going the other direction and then during the stop stay hot unless the troopers killed the AC and rolled down the windows . Working "traffic control" at I-80 detours for construction mid-summer both Mustang "Pursuits" and Crown Vic "Interceptors" with "High Output" 5.0s had to have their hoods open roadside and AC off in order to keep them running and the "cherries" on and the battery charged. The few 4th gen Camaros and Caprice LTZs with LT1 engines and "reverse flow cooling" the NSP "tested" briefly before the Caprice was "cancelled" never had a bit of trouble with overheating no matter the situations and both would outrun - and outhandle and outlast and out mileage - their Ford "competition" so badly it wasn't even funny. The only place the NSP Mustangs "lived" was western Nebraska which is far higher and drier and where spring comes later and fall earlier and where 90% of I-80 traffic is trucks since all the serious speeders came and come out of Colorado and get on I-80 where it "merges" with I-76. The vast majority of patrolling and speeder "pursuit" in western Nebraska is on 2-lane state highways with towns every 25-50 miles and nothing but gravel county roads to "escape" on if you turn off the highway. 60 mph speed limit back then and seeing anyone ticketed for more than 7 or 8 mph was extremely rare.
@deeremeyer17492 ай бұрын
Actual fog lights with "yellow" lenses are always mounted as low as possible. If those are "driving lights" they were mounted low for one simple reason. With them on the bumper there was that much less "safety margin" in radiator airflow before overheating. Which means it would overheat sooner since overheating of Ford vehicles with lots of "options" is a matter of when. Not if.

Bullnose series? How is that a "bullnose"? Google "bullnose Kenworth" and see if there is a resemblance. Or look at a bull's nose.

I have a 1982 XLS that I am trying to find someon to restore for me, any suggestions
@sombra61533 ай бұрын
I learned a couple of things from this video. I was reading just about every Mustang publication I could get my hands on in those days and honestly didn’t remember the modifications, ie long tubes on the cars. I vaguely remember the Predator packages at dealer displays but as I recall, they never admitted to any engine mods. One minor detail is that the Kansas City and Lees Summit you mentioned are on the Missouri side of the line. And the Saleens - was it 86 or 87 that Salween won an SCCA championship with a blueprinted but otherwise stock 302? Wasn’t the first time I’d heard of someone taking a stock 302 from that era back to blueprint specs and getting a surprising power increase. I remember a guy who did it to his 302 2V powered 82-83 F150 to get it to stop burning oil and really woke it up. Anyway, beautiful collection. I had a 92 LX 5.0/5-speed, but had once driven a 87-89 LX convertible that had long tubes, no cats, and a bigger throttle body. Couldn’t get anyone to tell me if it had a cam or other changes. Though it was pretty thrashed and the owner had chosen not to further wisely invest money into a Hurst, it still ran pretty strong - seat of the pants better than my mildly JBA modded 92.
