That retort's bloody excellent! Some serious biogas there. I need to build one of those. The little saw I'd thought about, but decided to splash out on a Makita 18v top handled saw as my cordless powerbase is becoming all Makita anyhow (reliable). I plant and crop willow every year for building, baskets & fuel, so can't be messing with 10 mins battery life. I want to move from 2 strokes with their noise, fumes and unreliability.

what's wrong with scrubland? did I notice some non-native trees that could be removed to make room for the new plants?
@carbonfarmers1343 жыл бұрын
What we mean by scrubland is just huge patches of gorse - very spiky and doesn’t let any trees grow once it’s away. We bought the place almost 20 years ago and the whole thing was covered in gorse with conifers underneath hence the odd comfier patches that made it. We have been working hard these last few weeks on a number of projects taking out non natives. Just need to get round to editing them!!

really solid build, i saw a philipino doing the same and tryed this myself just 1hours ago. i had a little problem and had to cut it short because fire was entering my charcoal area. its cooling down right now but ill see what i got. very nice family project. playing with fire and getting charcoal for the BBQ at the same time!
@carbonfarmers1343 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Yes you may have not sealed the charcoal area off enough allowing oxygen to get it hence why the charcoal will set alight. Its hard to do and we are still trying to find the perfect solution for it. It was really fun to make and hope yours works out.
@Francois_Dupont3 жыл бұрын
@@carbonfarmers134 i did a total of 3batches. the first one i had to cut short because my inside pipe was sliding down (i riveted it after), the 2nd batch i stopped too soon, then i added some "insulation" in the form of two piece of sheet metal and it worked. the final drum was about 95% perfect charcoal. here is a picture i took yesterday: i.imgur.com/p56GEVo.jpg mine is based on the design i saw on the philipino video (it was actually from thailand). the drum has a normal flue pipe doing down the middle inside of it. a big strong fire is build bellow it in a brick/cement block oven so the temperature are very high and it burn the smoke. the fire and heat go tru the center pipe inside the drum and heat the wood inside. the inside pipe has some hole drilled into it so the pyrolysis gas can enter the burn area and burn. it took maybe 3-4hours of burn time. here is some things i discovered: -only use small piece of wood, not round logs -dry wood only -must use insulation around the drum -wind affect it (since i had no proper insulation) Thank you for your video! after my successful batch i used some to do a BBQ and grill some sausages around midnight. after breathing all the burning paint and smoke it was a nice break.
