I agree with your point about flats not being brighter. This is about accessing a Luther Perkins tone on a gig or session without bringing a guitar setup for flats. Most modern players don’t use flats but what do you do when someone calls out a Johnny Cash tune? Playing where there’s more tension gives you more of a thumpy compressed sound like flats and like I said in the video. It also makes it brighter and Luther had a brighter sound than most contemporary guitarists. So not pointless but actual useful. So I would be playing the song after the count in with a similar tone while you’re still switching guitars

This is pointless. Flat wounds do not sounds brighter in anyway whatsoever and all you achieved by pixking by the bridge is a brighter sound. Just get 6 dollars and buy some flat wounds if you like being buried in the mix so much.

Step 1: get a telecaster
@rogerhaase4651
@rogerhaase4651 12 күн бұрын
I'd like to add another difference between Tele and Esquire. The string tension on an Esquire feels more slack. Almost like on a toploader Tele. This may be caused by the lack of magnetic pull of the neck pickup. Or not. At least that's what I think. Anyway, an Esquire is a very distinctive guitar and has its own character. Somehow it is much more than just a Tele with a missing neck pickup.
@JasonLoughlinMusic

That’s not really something you would feel. You were mostly likely just noticing a difference in setup between the two guitars..

If you were using a mod amp do you think the rock a billy mode would be the right choice? Be interesting if you did a video showing the difference from standard strings and flat wound. 😊

Metal guy here. Awesome licks man, I love new little tricks outside of my genre I can put in my arsenal. The fact that these ignore the bottom string so drop tunings can still be used is great.

First it was Daniel Donato, then all the Don kelley Band guitarists over the years. Then I went and checked out the guys they learned from. Like Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanon, Albert Lee, and Roy Nichols.
