Ms Himmelman is amazing, and Chebucto Heights is so lucky to have such a dedicated music teacher. You can see the fruits of her labour, in the confidence of the young performers under her tutelage. Music really helps some kids blossom, and Ms Himmelman has planted a garden.

I remember salt and pepper being hip hop, today it is Snotty Nose Rez Kids, which represents the everyday life of those of us who grew up poor, oppressed, watching Nirvana on our rich friends cable, while putting out our granny’s gardens with our mothers and aunties and hunting for our meat. I see a lot of similarities between my cuz’ that grew up outside of my own old neighborhood off the rez with no rez card ever and those that grew up on a rez with rez card privileges. I feel those off the rez with no way of getting a rez card ever just because they don’t have enough blood quantum or not enough record but are still relatives struggling with isolation and oppression from not having enough of a connection or claim with their family roots, history, and language, which is a shame on the world.

I’m so beyond grateful for Alexander’s music!
