Amanita is NOT a beginner mushroom! There are several in this category that are toxic and even deadly. Never ever consume wild mushrooms or plants without a 100% identification. There are old mushroom hunters, and bold mushroom hunters. What category are you going to be?

I have only found one of those. But, I find brownish ones all the time, but they aren't tall. Plus, they make a good broth. I was in the Morgantown area today.

Late August here in Colorado… out looking for chantrelles, found a bunch of young specimens of these growing on dead/downed aspen. Very fuzzy or tomentose on top, to the point that I thought there was a white mold growing on their very orange caps. Just like you described, semi-crowded shallow ORANGE gills, no stem/stipe, funky smell that I would describe as acrid/caustic/chemical. Thought I found some really colorful Pleurotis… but alas, they were most certainly these phyllotopsis nidulans. Thanks for making this video! Super helpful 🤙🏼🙌🏼🤙🏼

The one you wrote, beware on the bottom of is called the bicolor Bolete. This one is also edible and one of the most beautiful in the forest.

Literally, the first time I found this with my husband. We wanted to drop to our knees and give thanks. The beautiful golden drops on the bottom resembles some type of exotic jewel. #MushroomFantasies.❤

This is lovely. I collected a bunch of these because I really liked how they looked. Someone told me they were likely blushers and watching your video is virtually perfect match for all features. The only difference on mine from the one you show here is that the blushing is more patchy on the cap. It's blushed on the top but also in various other places, and the cap is a bit lighter. One of the first features I noticed collecting these was how the bulbous base had a red color which more or less matched the color on the cap, thanks for sharing this with us! I also really liked the information about mycorrhizal relationships between trees and certain mushrooms.

They don’t look very tasty but one of my oldest mushroom books just says parboil them first. I wonder when the last time anyone did a real analysis of the toxins? Bone dry here in PNW. Just lawn mushrooms.

Hi Anna, George here up in Cashiers sorta NC. that hat looks good on you. there is a little bit of a lull in the mushrooms up here right now, friends are finding chicken of the woods though. here, I am still finding Craterellus ignicolor, and Corrugated Milky's to eat. once again, you have an open invitation to use the spare room and I would take you to some good forest up here. I have two friends with large tracts of land. gorgeous woods. : ) have a good night, George.

Wow!! So cool to find a Clavaria! They're so beautiful, I've only met one so far. I didn't even consider if it was edible (which is unusual for me). A great day in the woods this time of year for me is when my fingers get sticky and brown and smell bad...Volemus is one of my favorite mushrooms to eat, and there's very little competition for them lol. Cinnabars too, so good and beautiful. 3 of my favorite fun guys! I'm gonna check out that uv light too. I'm intrigued, thanks for sharing!
