I have this exact dryer. It stopped working so I took the back off and the belt was completely shredded off. I Replaced that and it’s spinning again but now it’s not heating, any ideas on what I may have done wrong? Or is likely the heater has died too.?Single mum and id love to get it working again. I wish I had found this video from the start 😅

Hi Isky, great instructive videos .. well done!! My Simpson Dryer 6.5kg suddenly ran hot and then wouldn't heat at all. I think the heater has gone to heaven and I'll need to replace. You mentioned that you would do a video on replacing the heater, but I can't see to find one. Did you produce one? Can you help??

@@chrishill9153 Hey thanks Chris! Sorry I probably do have a video of me doing that but can't remember where. But hey you don't even need a video, it's the easiest part on a dryer to replace. Once you have the back cover off all you need to do is remove the 2 screws on either side of the heater (which you will see immediately after removing the cover). Pull the heater out, unplug it and plug in a new one. Simple. You don't even need to remove the entire back of the dryer, just the back cover. It's pretty much plug and play 😎👍

I have the same Westinghouse dryer, it's always been stiff to turn. Thanks for showing the idler and the capacitor replacement, I went looking for your video to see if the polarity of the capacitor mattered and you say it doesn't, so that's all good. I wish I'd seen your video earlier as your method of taking off the back was much quicker and easier than mine...

Learnt so much fun your videos👍 I've got the 6kg Electrolux version only 3 years old of moderate use. It's making a really rough vibration noise. Pulled it apart and checked everything and cleaned out with no success. Idler, fan, rear bearing all seem immaculate. Unfortunately it seems to be the motor bit not to sure. Cheers

I just had to replace the drum belt for this machine. I thought it was going to be a big job but in the end it is relatively straight forward. Back panel is just screwed on, easy to get off enough for the belt. Motor is easily accessed when the front and rear fan cover and motor mounts are removed. I can say from experience though, the belt can be threaded the wrong way :( If it is loose, check the belt is threaded so that it has tension on the belt. Hopefully this will be the last repair for a few years. I have to do multiple repairs on this machine. It is about six years old.

really nice video! thanks for sharing! I have an old dell u2711, some years ago it started to have a problem: it only works whe the brightness and contrast are set to low, when i try to increase any option, the screen turn off, i have to set them back to low (the buttons at the right lateral still works), turn off it and turn on again and the image appears.. after watch your video i opened it, tried to reatach the cables and done a little cleaning, but the problem persist, didn't find any bad capacitor on the boards too... i'm considering to replace the power supply board... do you think there's a higher chance of have another board with problem or have any other suggestion? Thanks for your videos! they are very useful!

Thanks so much for the video; I've got the exact same model, opened it up and everything seems to be in fairly good nick. When face down, spun the drum around and it seemed to be noise free and turning smoothly. Back on its feet and I still can't get rid of what sounds like excessive grumble when the drum is turning only. Certainly louder to operate than when I first got it. It used to sound as quiet as when you got your one going. Any ideas? I'm about to lose my mind!

Hey just fixed my dryer because of this video (same model). Interestingly that my fault seemed to be a combination of the spring holding the motor dislodging itself and also the bearing where the drum connects to the dryer back completely being shredded. Found an identically sized bearing for $1.80 from local HW store and dryer is back up and running. I guess it’s pretty old now so not sure how long it will last but I really appreciate this video mate. Well done!

3:05 question for you if you have the answer. My partner just pulled apart our 8kg fisher and Paykel heat pump dryer as it was making a clanging sound with every drum rotation and he found it was this copper clip thing at the back centre of the drum. Didn't appear to be doing a lot except lifting and flicking the bolt every turn. He decided to just bend it back out of the way but I'm hoping it's not there for some serious reason. Looks like this clip you have on the back here at 3:05, any ideas? Thanks so much

As funny as it might sound the current version of this Dryer the Westinghouse EasyCare 4.5kg, I do actually recommend it as a brand new dryer if someone is after a dryer that isn’t too fancy and just does the job then I’d say that these ones even though they are cheaper made are probably a winner.

Cheers mate for reminding me how to do this. Just over 10 years ago, our Westinghouse dryer belt kicked the bucket, so I ordered two on-line and fixed it. The one I put on just broke as well and thankfully I still had that second one I ordered but could not remember how to install it. Your video saved me heaps of time! One thing I've noticed the first time I did this, was that the buggers are putting the travel path of the belt too close to the element, which slowly burns it away. Anyway, I've managed to get 20 years of service out of this dryer and hopefully another 10 are coming up. Cheers once again!

Hey man no worries! Whow 20 years is amazing 😯 You'll definitely get another 10 out of it as long as you jump onto every tiny odd sound before it becomes a major issue. Especially the grinding type of sounds. But it sounds like your pretty vigilant. Good on ya mate 😎👍

G'day DMW, sorry for the delayed reply. Hmmm I'm not too sure. The only time I'd describe a dryer as having a thumpy type of sound is when it has the dreaded train 'track sound'. But that usually only happens if the dryer has been dropped slightly. It's normally a flat spot that develops on the lip of the drum that goes inside the door part of the machine. I made a video years ago of the issue if that helps. Otherwise I would just turn the drum with the back off, with the drum lying on it's face again and see if you can detect where it's coming from. Sorry I can't be any more help, but well done for getting it back on the road 👍 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9Fgm91_m9e7hZs.html

@@dmw2132 No way that's awesome! Haha you're probably the first person I've helped with that fix. Good job! And well done replacing the bearing. Bearings that disintegrate are one of the main reasons people have to throw their machines out. Anyway hope it serves you well 😀

I should have found your videos before I undid that last screw and had the plate get dislodged! We were replacing the door because the original one was completly cracked and split at the hinge side. We managed to take the back off the drier, and lay it on its face with part hanging over the edge (enough to se the screw holes). Then reached in from the back and moved the plate around until we could see the screw holes when looking up from under the front face (needed two people - one to move the plate and the other one lying on their back looking up at the screw holes). Got one screw in and then stood it back up for the rest of them. We were glad because we didn't fancy pulling the drum out! When reassembled, the new door would not trigger the micro switch for the door closed detection. Comparing the old and new doors, we found the reason: The replacement door's prong that pushes the switch was 3mm shorter than the original one (the new door was some sort of after-market version). We glued a small piece of plastic on the end to lengthen it and it works (no need to stick something in the hole to force the switch to "always on", which is dangerous).

Very good, I will do this. Two questions: 1. How does pushing the clothes to the back help it start up? 2. What is the purpose of the vent deflector? The guy who installed mine 15 years ago didn't fit it, but luckily I still have it. I'm planning to fit it vertically, as you started to do. It looks like it will catch a lot of the lint flying out, instead of spraying the wall behind with it. Probably need cleaning out at some stage too?
