My advice is to not write an ending. D&D campaigns don’t need story arcs, you can just keep playing until you don’t feel like continuing.

❤❤❤ yeah I find endings really challenging especially when it marks the end of a long journey of any kind. I think it goes back to what you said about doing more work that may not make it to the final product. I know I wrote a few things ahead of the final session to make sure I could let the character go freely instead of feeling bad knowing she would die.

I stumbled across this movie at a video store in Tucson, Arizona. Casa Video, which just turned 40 and is still going strong. I was looking through the Japanese movies because I was really into Seijun Suzuki films at the time, and the cover of Kamikaze Girls was so eye catching. I decided to rent it and it became one of my favorite movies. Seeing this video, I really want to read the book now!

I didn't know about the book! It was interesting to hear about the differences with the movie! It would've been cool if they had included the parts about the online shopping because that was a very new thing in general around that time!

I think it would be very cool to have an episode of the podcast playing through one of these narrative games. Maybe the short form Ash talked about? For somebody who's RP experience is mainly in D&D/Pathfinder type settings, I can't quite wrap my head around how narrative games would feel/work.

Playing "A Family Affair" was the highlight of my con this year. Listening to Ash talk about the history and development of the genre was so great. I still remember playing Witch at Conception years ago in a lodge game truely was a change in the space. Thanks again for great games.

Was fantastic to listen in on this. Had a blast playing Void at Sasha's table. The upfront with purpose of mechanics and how they feed into game writers intentions is such a good point. Too often we don't treat game runners as collaborators.

Well I was really more of a weeb. Manga as soon as they became a thing in Germany. Before that, my main comic was Asterix :) It is so interesting though how Manga just taught an entire generation "no, you read from right to left, not left to right". I now def have the issue where I read graphic novels the wrong way on the page sometimes.

Ppl skip dialogue ??? Shock horror. I recently played a bit of Pentiment and it has this interesting dynamic of using middle age scripture as game flavour and mechanic. The way the scripture is written, what is highlighted etc tells you things about the charactors etc.
@EvilKimau
@EvilKimau 4 ай бұрын
Yeah a shocking amount. I can't recall the stats because been a few years but you just need to watch your average twitch streamer on a blind playthrough. You would be surprised how much is skipped.

I still remember finishing your first book on the tube, and being so emotional about the ending, but needing to keep it together because: public place ;) When I used to write, I would always burn out on larger projects. It would start with a specific scene or specific conflict I wanted to write. But writing the characters to get to that part took so long my attention for the project would drop.

One of my favourite overlap for f*** yeah humanity and star trek is this very old tumblr post on klingons asking vulcans why they let humans make federation decisions Or for an even funnier take, the eurovision song context in star trek universe. :)

Socially distanced book review :) I like it. I think it is very important to read a book with the historical context in mind. But also... sometimes you don't want to sift through layers of sexism and homophobia just to enjoy parts of a book. It stays a difficult choice every time.

Gotta love the artificial intelligence tropes. :) Still vividly remember readying Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Also the Speculative Japan series is great for short stories that don't just follow the standard japanese mold. Also always have to go back to Battle Angel Alita for some female cyborg protagonists.

I think this is the sort of book that you need to be in the right headspace for. I don't know how easy it would be to read slowly, picking it up and putting it down again. But I think it sounds like a great book to dedicate time to :)

It is defo a beefy boy. 1152 pages so slightly more than the 900 guess. But yeah the audiobook is great as well. Though I'll be honest I devour any NS book with eager fevour. So yeah 100% my jam. The only "bad books" are his first two and he tries to deny Big U exsists but its still a fun read and you see some of his ideas he explores in later books poorly formed in there.

I also love tags that work as both soft warnings and finding your audience. Like Enemy to lovers, fake relationships, slow burn etc. If I don't like that, I can stay away. And if I am on the fence, it may make me pick it up even if I don't love fantasy etc

When you held up the book, and I immediately thought "Omg what a brick, I bet that is a slow burn" But with the time skips, sometimes in comics you can see that done badly. Where they constantly have something like "2 weeks later" or "later that day" and it actually makes no sense as it is disorientating?

I love footnote heavy books like the disc world series. Sadly I find with digital copies, switching between footnotes and the plot can be tricky, if the foot notes get put at the back of the copy, instead of on the same page, for the ebook version

I mean the shoulder deamon is usually the enemy. Worst offender was Cedric in King's Quest. But you have convinced me to give it a try. I just wish it had a paper copy. Also I think Baldur's Gate feels like it is playing with the Lit RPG genre in some ways. Like MMORPGs were inspired by D&D, but abstracted the dice roll mechanic away. And Baldur's Gate puts it back in very deliberately
