How would you approach a bathtub shaped bowl ?
@rickbailey5320
@rickbailey5320 2 күн бұрын
@@daggersrule_1986 see the square end in this video and apply it back to back. But other lines could be applicable, however it’s difficult for me to assess without seeing it. The overall principles of nearest wall and low through the first corner, high through the second. Is probably what you need to focus on 👍🏻

Im 41 and still skating. I never had the opportunity to skate bowl until i was 28. I can ride it but im so cautious. I am ok on wooden tranistions and indoor parks but every single bad slam i have had in the last 10 years or so has been in the big concrete bowl. It fucking hurts to fall in the bowl. I should probably buy some knee pads... 😝

Good video but to say only indys will do? Disagree. Ace trucks are just as good or better than indys in transition or bowls. The fact that you like indys is your own personal preference.

@rickbailey5320 You literally said "and the others you can't skate quite the same" That is a false statement. According to you that may be true but in general that is 100% false. I've seen skaters completely rip transition on a variety of trucks so you can't say they're "not quite the same" You would of been better off saying its YOUR OPINION that indys are better, which they're are not but at least your video would of made more sense.

I'm trying to learn to pump while actually on the wall (like at 05:47 and 05:58) any tips, Rick? I find it strange to psyche up for the 'next' pump when I've just gotten up there. Half the time I just drop off the wall. Pumping feels different on the wall (gravity etc)

@rickbailey5320 9 ай бұрын
Without seeing, it sounds like you are trying too go too far along or too high for the speed that you are carrying. You should should hit maximum speed when the board is parallel to the coping. Then as you turn to create the next line, the centrifugal force will push you onto the board.

But it depends what kind of skating you’d like to do. It’s just as much or more fun to skate a curb. Which are everywhere. If you want to get good quick, find other people to skate with. Is this park near Leeds? I'm a 50 year old southerner that lives in Sheffield. I was a vert skater in my youth but I only skate around ten or so times a year because of other commitments. That bowl/pool looks like really good fun because it is about lines rather than tricks. I don't really have anyone to skate with because I don't really know anyone in the Yorkshire area. Is there any organised sessions for old fogeys that happen?

@Rick Bailey Thanks, I skated today at a skatepark in Sheffield city centre. I was going to go to an indoor one called onboard skatepark but I decided against it because it seemed like a recruiting tool for a cult. Now that the weather is starting to get better I think I'll take a trip to Leeds to check it out. I skated an indoor one in Leeds called The Works but that was years ago so I don't know if it's even still there.

Love this. I’m a middle-aged surfer learning to skate transition and this is pure inspiration. All I want is to be able to flow around a bowl/pool like that. Looks like bliss. As a surfer, the body mechanics come naturally to me, but it’s so much more difficult than it looks knowing how to navigate the bowl. Anyway, thanks for the video and the inspiration. 🙏👍🏼

Love that you slam often, i picked up skating a three weeks ago. i live in the Scottish Borders and the closest parks are edinburgh newcastle and glasgow, all within a hour but not great for daily practice. Luckily a skatepark was built ten miles down the road. david Fenske I have several set ups, the one in this video is a Santa Cruz dressen eyes, slick,reissue. 9.8 wide, 14.25 wheelbase I believe. Some people are really fussy about this, but I ride anything between 8.5 to 9.8 wide and anything up to 15 wheelbase. Independent 159 on 8.5 to 9” or 169 above 9”, you need them loose enough so that you can go around a tight corner without kickturning. If you have them to tight it’ll be impossible to skate a bowl / pool properly. Some people ride them ridiculously loose, mine aren’t but I ride really fast and weigh a lot, so I have them tight enough not to speed wobble. Wheels 56mm slimeballs on the video 97a, otherwise I also skate formula 4’s 58mm 99a. Bronson G3 or Raw bearings with spacers, makes them go even faster.
