You set the hook too fast which makes it hook it in maybe a slim piece of skin and they pop off easily

As someone not much older than that guy, I would have said something to the kids and let it go at that. Both kids apologized and were going to leave, but no,the old guy kept being a jerk about it all and stirring the pot. If those kids were causing trouble and breaking beer bottles, then yes, the old guy has a right to complain. He needs to lighen up and pick his battles.
