DM: *I* know it's not real, so all my NPCs know too! Also DM: The enemy leader doesn't know that the DMPC is behind the door waiting to attack him, despite the fact that I know.

2 things. 1. Can someone please tell me why they through the guy out of the game before session 0 in the first story? 2. If you're new at running games, I strongly suggest running a couple modules. Looking up a "simple 1 shot" will give you plenty of direction and notes on running your game. The biggest challenge will be managing your friends chaotic nature.

Hey! This is gonna sound like a very weirdly specific question but at 28:02 there was a still of some art of check in cards from what seemed to be another video and I was wondering what video its from? Im actually the artist that drew those cards on commission a few years ago now at this point! made me genuinely delighted and surprised to see them again haha Love your videos also!

DM in the first story fundamentally doesn't understand paladins. Sorry but players from older editions get it stuck in their heads that paladins are 100% Lawful Good. This no longer applies (and was dumb back then, I swear my oath to Tiamat, what now?) and instead the Oath system mentioned by the player applies. DM is stupid for three reasons. Reason one: Trying to trick a paladin into being not Lawful isn't a legit play. Your alignment describes "your moral and personal attitudes." It isn't the sum total of your actions. A paladin who unknowingly breaks the law does not lose his lawful alignment. He still seeks to be a lawful individual. Reason two: Your lawful alignment is not dependent on your current fucking legal jurisdiction. The PHB very explicitly says you adhere to laws OR personal codes. In effect, as long as the character has SOME code of conduct they reliably follow, they are lawful. You can reject the laws of the land you are as per mordor skit. Reason three: Devotion paladins are under no obligation to remain lawful. Nothing in their tenets says they must obey laws, local or otherwise. In short: Any DM who tries to remove a paladin's power is illiterate and a rube

Probably the best possible result with the last story (the 'used someone else playing the character to hook a relationship with the character' story) would be to say 'Okay, the romance arc happened... and it was the character's lesbian awakening and cemented in her mind that she had no interest in men'.

Story 0: Look, I try to give people benefits of the doubt WAAAAAAY too often, but holy heck sometimes (especially with random online groups) you just meet truly obnoxious people who are an absolutely chore to be around. I've dealt with roleplay groups enough to know that some people online have no social grace.

Okay everyone as always we need to go back to the first page of the Vtm rulebook : "this is a game about monsters. But it is only a game. Don't use it as an excuse to act like a monster yourself"

For the religious DM, I don't know how this guy has any friends outside of his faith if he ever unironically calls people, let alone his own friends, apostates. I can easily hang out with religious people, and there's a shared respect there of understanding each other's boundaries.

Just so the non-brony people know: Fluttershy not only does extensive work on herself with the help of her friends to OVERCOME her social anxiety and doesnt suffer from severe frequent panic attacks, but she's also known to be EXTREMELY brave, strong and intimidating to villains through an ability simillar to Ghost Rider's Penance Stare that can only be described as "Severe "i'm not mad, i'm just disappointed" energy.". Basically she once told a dragon to cut his bs after the other characters couldn't defeat him and the dragon was like "okay miss Fluttershy :'(". That added on top of her running an animal shelter on her own, being extremely patient with both friends and enemies and even convincing a god of chaos to reform into a good guy by becoming his best and (at first) only friend makes her one of the most secretly badass characters on the show. Either That Guy didn't watch MLP past the opening or he only watches mlp-related p0rn.

Again with players condoning racism. It’s disappointing that it took a bad D&D experience for that player to leave the group and not the fact that the DM is a racist.

A level 20 Sun Soul Monk, wandering the Ethereal Plane for eternity. Damn. That'd be a fun character to bring back via an accident in a later campaign with level 15 characters who just _can't quite_ beat the BBEG without an unexpected boon 🤔

I'd like to mention for the "Brand New DM" story. That's not really a behavior of a "Brand New DM" it definitely could be but it's also the behavior of an old school DM. in OG D&D they didn't have CR, just XP value. Many old school DMs would just plop random monsters they thought were cool and plop them in front of a party, maybe adjusting some of the values to make it so it didn't 1 shot someone but sometimes you just run into bad luck or created a fun narrative out the random monster the DM decided to pull on you. Not saying this was a good DM, just that it might not be a new one. Encounters really shouldn't be balanced unless you're going for a specific narrative, the really fun stories come from unbalanced encounters that resolve in unexpected ways.

Why have them roll if it means nothing, a crit still leads to a 13 hp reduction wtf
@CrispysTavern
@CrispysTavern 9 сағат бұрын
Cut content :( The escape from the ruins was supposed to be an extended scene. They would have fought some scavengers and an undead version of Seyka. These are extremely low level mobs, so the HP reduction was necessary to make the combat tense and to demonstrate the dire nature of the situation (and the fact that the party are dying). However, due to runtime I had to remove that. Also, the roll does mean something, it halves damage. Just like most spells.

Yeah fair. I needed Yumi to know a bit about them to start since this is a short campaign. It... A. Makes sense for her character, she's a super paranoid spy B. Helps with relationship building C. Needs to be quick since this was planned to be a shorter campaign As for the rest, they're talking to a bunch of spys, politicos, and powerful mobsters. These people know things. Also, on a meta level it helps with exposition.

Did he not already make up for what he did? He went to therapy, cut his abusive wife out of his life and apologised, if he really had done something wrong then his "victims" should have reported him to the police and not just gather together to ruin his life because he was doing some weird shit that he even admitted to knowing he was wrong and had the heart to feel bad for what he did... if he's not having a prison sentence and he still wants to do what he's passionate, then who the hell can tell him otherwise? Apparently you're not allowed to work on redeeming yourself and just have to give up on everything that you are passionate about because some asshole thinks you are worth less than dirt for a few mistakes that weren't even charged or investigated... now that's suspicious if you ask me.

I'm going to point out that no one mentions the casual "popping a cherry" comment left by the not-nerdy-enough guy in the intro. That statement comes from only one specifically sexual thing, and I would wonder what else he might have casually said to reinforce their view if he so non-chalantly drops statements like There are many ways to say "doing something for the first time" without being crass, and I wouldn't want to play with someone who said that around my wife, daughter, or female coworkers.

Dude, I'm the exact opposite to the last story DM: if me, the player, is told what's going on, I'll act as if my character doesn't know - even if s/he looks stupid not realizing. However if I figure it out without anybody telling me, THEN my character will realize. I find it more challenging and thus more fun this way. Being plainly told what's happening takes me away from the immersion.

I’ve watched several of these videos now and have made the following observation (note: I invite feedback on this, but please be nice): Don’t enter a campaign looking to have a romance. It feels like half of these horror stories are about cringe romances and a huge part of what makes them cringe is that they feel forced. Romances can be fun, but let them happen organically, if that’s your main reason to play, don’t play.

I am really cautious about DMPCs. When a friend first mentioned it, I thought the idea was absurd. And to be fair in that case it really was. Her group had three DMs who took turns DM-ing and each had one to three PCs to be "fully engaged" in the story. (Not to mention that all the players had various social or mental health problems they tried to bring into the game...) It just sounded like a total clusterf*** and I noped out before even starting to build a character. Then our DSA (Das Schwarze Auge - known as The Dark Eye) DM had a DMPC that was originally intended as a guide but really pushed the drama and didn't let us do anything. It really soured my impression of the idea even more... Our current DnD and Pathfinder DM also adds DMPCs. At first I was almost freaking out and told him, I'm not sure I would stay in such a game. But his DMPCs fit really well into the groups we are playing. Usually it's a character to fill out whatever the group lacks, like a healer or a tank. Sometimes it's an NPC we really grew to like. But he always stays more in the background and only takes center if we are ok with it. So it works really nice. Like everything in PnP it's about communication, boundaries and respect as well as making sure everyone is enjoying the game. It can be great and it can be really horrible.

Context for the jjk thing yes that’s a thing geto says he’s racist but in the anime sort of way where he hates anyone who can’t use the power systems and wants to eradicate all of them he calls them monkeys Basically he’s a genocidal Eugenicist and posting he’s speeches without without that context is big yikes like he’s the bad guy an actually deeply sympathetic one because the racism thing isn’t meant to feel anything like real world racism so the reasons he became like this makes sense despite being wrong
