GWM have a joint venture deal with Mercedes, so yes there is quite a lot of Mercedes influence. It's been on sale in Australia and South Africa for about a year. South Africa at present only has the HEV variant. GWM sells Bakkies, single and double cabs here as well and the 500 is due before year-end.

I happen to own a 1980 Moskvich 412 and honestly for what it’s worth you are getting a solid car. Compared to something more desirable like a Lada 1200 (which I also have) it actually does have some positives -The steering compared to the lada is actually really nice and you don’t have to put so much strength in trying to turn the wheel in tight spots -It’s incredibly good on gas, like when I bought mine driving from Vinnitsya to Kiev I only had to stop and fill the tank once for a 6 hours drive, although the speed was roughly 80 km/h driving the whole way -If you fine tune the carburetor it can run really well and idles nicely while making it easier to use the clutch - It’s just as easy to maintain compared to a lada, and actually has a lot in common although you don’t get some fancy components like front ash trays for the driver or an electric windshield fluid dispenser And all of this does sound nice but it’s a vehicle with quirks too and can be terrifying to drive if you aren’t used to it such as: -Really poor breaks, which, no matter how much I tried to fix, just feel very soft and you quite literally have to pump them to get them to work. Lots of close calls and you really need to leave yourself distance to break -The transmission unlike something luxurious like (again) the lada, is a nightmare to deal with as it is older and grinds often, the biggest issue is trying to put it into the 3rd gear which a lot of the time is actually close to putting it in reverse due to it being in the position, just farther up and right. And on top of that it is awful to downshift with and you have to be going at a snails pace to even bother trying to do that in the first place -And in general it is very slow, having a hard time climbing up hills and, although it has great visibility, you should always be weary as most of the time they didn’t not come with any side mirrors, and the lights themselves have a tendency to work when they want and when they don’t. I could go on for longer but when you buy or drive this you shouldn’t come with the expectation that it will drive like a Mercedes from the 80s because for the time they were built it was for a different environment and different needs and car makers and consumers have different ideas and approaches from both the east and the west. It’s a fantastic car, it makes you feel like you are driving a piece of history, and is for the likeminded individual who sees practicality and sees it’s worth for what it is. Cheers!

Love the content, but you REALLY need to work on balancing (mastering) the audio, mate. I’m listening in high quality headphones and it’s quite hard to make out what you’re saying over the engine noise and the music. In addition, your voiceover sort of sounds like it was recorded inside a tupperware container. Again, I love the content. Just trying to provide some constructive feedback :) Keep it up mate ✌️

These vehicles and the predecessor Bv 202 was not designed for special operations (as an aside special forces preferred the old Bv 202 because it was quieter), but this type of vehicles was developed as a response to winter manoeuvres in northern Sweden in the 50's where the infantry brigades had huge problems with mobility. This led to the development of the Bv 202, the Bv 206 is just a newer better vehicle of that type.

It also has a russian registration plate from the Novgorod region. So the bigger question is - why is there so much left in swedish?
@indiefjant14 күн бұрын
Very good question, actually. This might be one that at some point found itself in Russia. It’s well-known that the Russians got their hands on this vehicle, copied it, and made their own version. Cheaply and badly, I might add. Just like they have badly copied many other pieces of Swedish military equipment, such as the CB90 (Combat Boat 90). Their cheap copies are terrible. The Russians have very little innovation power. I expect all the lovely Russian bots to flood me with stupid comments in an attempt to refute me. Hello and welcome :)

The Army in Alaska had these starting in 1984. They were the M973 Small Unit Support Vehicle (SUSV). They were equipped with a 5 cylinder Mercedes diesel engine and a Mercedes 4 spd automatic transmission. The 5 cylinder engine didn't fair well. It was prone to overheating and headgasket leaks . In 1990, the M973A1 was introduced with a 6 cylinder diesel. By 1999, the Hagglunds contract ended and the SUSV's were scrapped. In 2023 the Army is prepared to re-introduce the improved model.

I find it fascinating that the specs would be so different from country to country. In the original it was a ford v6 2.8 taken down to , if I remember correctly 2,4 petrol engine, limited to 58 kph , these limiters could easily be bypassed to a top speed of 92 kph . 4 speed automatic Mercedes’ gearbox and a torque converter. It had a mean power and nothing you could not do with it . The other version was called 2062 same specs but more punch .

It's more or less common in the civil sector. When we had up to 2 meter snow (6.5 feet) one winter, these were the only vehicles that got anywhere. They were used for things like transporting sick people to hospitals, getting food to isolated elderly, evacuating people and much more. They are the perfect vehicles for deep snow and deep swamps.

It just doesn’t sink! Stays so well on top of the snow 👍

When I was in the army in 1980-1981 we used this band wagon. When we left our troop transport trucks behind and went on skis in to roadless terrain we put tents and other stuff in the band wagon. It was also meant to evacuate wounded. Fortunately we only did training and no actual combat so no real wounded😊

This car is a surprise. It was built like a cheap car but had a V4 engine twice the size of a western economy car, e.g. Citroen 2 CV or Fiat 600. It was modest but had a special burner for heating and chrome on the sides. It certainly could have been designed more economically in these areas and have better quality and durability especially in the bodywork. It was, however, properly adapted for the harsh life of the Russian countryside. Very good presentation.
