Ehy! Do you have any examples of website portfolios that do that? I've worked for one year as a solo designer for a startup and I have done everything to create the product from zero, and I want to be able to share the different skills and things I have done, but I have no idea of how to present them graphically and without being awkward next to my previous little projects

This was awesome, very objective and helpful. I am going through the same situation. Brought peace and calm to my mind. I will definitely want to associate with you, I am a part of design experience work and would want to create hopeful prototypes from inspiring ideas aimed at easing the human and computer design interface and interactions.

Some NDAs won't allow you to put a name of the company or group you contracted or consulted for. This sabbatical like provision can actually be quite beneficial.

I'd like to see some research backing the claim that it's a myth. I've experienced it first-hand. I took a 5 year break and just couldn't find a job in my field when I came back.

Hi, The advice you gave is something I do believe in, but unfortunately, no matter what I try, the market is not letting me find the job that I want. I am not just carefully reading the JD, but I am also applying to companies that closely relate to my own values and where I can create value. Unfortunately, things are not working out. Is there anything else that one needs to do? I am out of options to connect any dots.

This video was such a big help. I'll share it with a friend of mine who is job searching like me and subscribe to your channel immediately! What you said at the start is exactly how I feel - about the crippling self doubt. I have tried to do job searching on my own but often get so discouraged, distracted and lost. I compare myself to others a lot, especially if they seem more driven to look for work and seem more efficient at figuring things out than me. Often when I see a job advertisement the first thing I think is, I'm not cut out for this and I worry about what the actual job will involve and whether I'll be able to pick things up fast enough or whether stress/pressure will get the better of me. It's been immensely helpful to me to have an accountability partner when doing tedious assignments and job searching because that way they can sit with me when I'm choosing what jobs to apply for and if I start doubting and saying that I'm not good enough, they can say "No Kat! Don't think twice and just go for it!" and I end up applying for roles I never would have been able to alone. Many times, other people can see our potential where we can't see it ourselves. I'm so glad you mentioned about the importance of getting support. I haven't seen many experts place value on that point, especially advice-givers for highly technical careers like engineering where many people aren't as social and like to operate alone. It's impractical to think we can accomplish anything alone. No person is an island. Thank you for providing such great value in this video, Sarah. I like to say why I chose to subscribe as feedback for the channel owner so they know what aspects of their video are captivating and can use that as feedback to make their future videos even better. There are 3 reasons I am choosing to subscribe to you: 1. You mentioned that you are the CEO of a company that guides people who are in product development and that was really impressive to me. Makes you seem highly credible. 2. The way in which you described self doubt in your overview really resonated with me and I felt seen. 3. I like how you simplified becoming more confident into one simple sentence about knowing what you can control and what you have no control over. For someone like me who overthinks a lot, it helps to have things simplified into a one sentence takeaway

I just started a new job and been helping with the onboarding process. I called the candidate to see if the person was still interested in the job and stated to the person we will write an offer the end of the day or next week on Monday. The person sounded really excited about the job, but my hire ups stated they question the person’s experience. I been stressing about it all weekend… What’s a good response to tell the candidate that their offer has revoked? Even after telling them we’ll write them an offer letter? I feel so bad and this is my first time messing up an offer. Just to clarify, no offer letter was actually sent. Only a verbal, but I misunderstood my hire ups.

Great insights. I have been seeking for job around four months. A lot of jobs more looks like advertising, because they renew application once in month. I had some interviews after those I got test task. But many of those task didn't show my skills and knowledge, often it was part of a Landing page. Besides, to got feedback almost unreal. After request email, one company responded that I had good knowledge and skills, but they didn't like chosen stile. And it's very hard (Because stile depends on users prefers. Candidate, who spend three days on test task, can't guess what is doing inside the project and what inside of owner's head(

She comes off as some really judgemental UX professionals. While it's important to have Resumes and portfolios which are easy to read, understand and navigate; entry level UX people are not exactly sure how to do it and by the time they have some idea, they are already into an internship, and seniors don't care about working with you anyway. And these tangible insights are usually possible when you have worked with the company for a longer duration. And all impacts are not about "how many users I pulled or how much money I made". Especially her hand gesture at 3:33, very considerate :)

Interesting idea to write a "job description" for your mentor. 👍 I have heard the term "board of directors" before and really find it useful. I could put more deliberate effort into that using a job description having done the work as to what I need.

This is a great observation. I've noticed this whenever I've been in a certification course or class or even looked at other people's portfolios, that all the other people I'm assuming are experts are often just as unsure about things as I am, and sometimes even more so. Some really are experts, of course, but I do tend to think of myself as this tiny little circle "playing house" with UX, and that everyone else has it down and does the "real thing".

I just watched and this is so right on! One thing I was advised by a former recruiter who now helps people optimize their resume/linkedin profiles is that your linkedin profile should not be cut and pasted from your resume. You want to "hook" the person looking at it but not include all the nitty gritty that is on your resume. This makes sense to me and I feel like she did a good job of helping me with this. 😊

Enlightening message !! Sarah a lot of times i have heard that it's better to be a master of 1 particular skill or task rather than ordinary at many things - as per the saying goes " Jack of all trades but master of None " so my question was will it be beneficial to work in a small company as a specialist or in a large company as generalist ? In terms of making more money at faster rate bcoz the problem is there is a fixed growth in top companies in a normal routine. So how to break the chain & rules to achieve exceptional growth without getting stuck in age old career ladder corporate system that offers not much to the employees but works for the owners very well..

Super Helpful ! Mam could you suggest me how to get a job as fresher beginner after 4 yrs of gap due to family reasons, i am a hvac design engineer in Aec construction industry completed my studies then internship of 6 months also experience in 2019 but i haven't joined any company bcoz my mother was working alone here in my hometown so i helped her with domestic works etc but now i am free after this month to hunt for a job so i am anxious about how should i plan or approach the upcoming challenges now to get hired effectively without wasting time or coming across as unprofessional in any way infront of recruiters ? What books would be useful to read for around this topic to know more about getting selected faster in company ??

I’ve had many people close to me tell me to play the numbers game, but I know deep down inside it isn’t the right thing to do. I want to work for a company I’m passionate about instead of taking the first offer letter that presents itself.
