Thanks for sharing this 😊. I was wondering if I could use it for solar panel charging. I need to find out if it can effectively charge the Prius with solar power...🌞 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5mqZZt1ptmde4E.html

Update: I installed this kit in 2022. AS of April, 2024, the front driver's side strut started making a ratcheting, grinding sound during turns. When I finally got the assembly off to investigate, I found exactly what I'd expected: the Prius Offroad spacer had shifted so far off center that the coil spring was not compressing evenly and thus not functioning properly. After carefully watching this video again, and slowing down the KEY part involving adding the spacer (where they, for some odd reason, sped UP the video (WTF?!)--I think I've found the issue. As mentioned in my earlier comment, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get the kit spacer to seat properly on the spring. And here's why: if you slow down the video, you'll notice that the spacer in the video has long flanges on both top and bottom. This is NOT the spacer that they sent me--the bottom flange on mine only extends down ~1/4". The one in the video is at least 3/4"-1"+. This extra length, I believe, helps to keep the coil and spacer from creeping off center. This is clearly an issue if you try to get the shorter spacer like they sent me to seat properly--it's nearly impossible. It took my at least a dozen tries on each strut assembly, tightening and loosening the compressors, using trigger claps to hopelessly keep it centered, before I just gave up. Now that I've got it "centered" again, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before this happens again. FAIL

Does the orientation/paint marks you made at the beginning of the video matter for how the HD spring is aligned on the strut, or is that only for the install back on the vehicle? How do you know which is the front side and back side, left and right?

this is SO BAD for trails. absolutely destroys them. ford is removing this feature from the bronco because of this
@Slyfoxx
@Slyfoxx 4 ай бұрын
I know absolutely nothing about this subject so pardon my ignorance but why exactly would this destroy the trails? Like I understand that full sending a 500hp+ truck/SUV would wear em down, would a Prius actually cause a lot of damage though?
@heatxfer3662
@heatxfer3662 4 ай бұрын
You don't want spinning or dragging tires on a trail, graded or otherwise, because it damages the trail. It creates ruts and low spots that loosen the compacted soil and make the trail choppy and harder to negotiate. And with every subsequent vehicle, it gets worse.
@real_adv512
@real_adv512 4 ай бұрын
@@Slyfoxx anytime you drag something on the ground you dig down every so slightly. with dirt bikes, quads, trucks and jeeps going through it just adds up to damage over time. i dont know if you have highway tires or some mild all terrains but your prius does do SOME slight digging. its NOWHERE near as bad as a bronco with 355/85/19 tires would make GIANT ruts that mountain bikers (or a prius on highway tires) would get stuck in. so TLDR. yes your prius does SOME damage. not nearly the same amount as a bronco, but some
@Slyfoxx
@Slyfoxx 4 ай бұрын
@@real_adv512 yeah okay, that's about what I figured. Thanks for the info! For the record I don't own a Prius or drive trails lol, just curious as to the amount of damage a low HP car would really do in comparison to the absolutely massive "off-roading" vehicles on the market today. It just seems like in the grand scheme of things I can imagine a dirtbike being capable of doing as much if not more damage than a Prius dragging tires would. What's the solution if you need to turn around then? Once again I'm not trying to be a dumbass but I have absolutely no clue what trail etiquette is. Do you just keep going until there's enough space to turn? And if so, what happens if it's a narrow trail for like miles in one direction? Kinda a "you made your bed" scenario where you should still keep going until you can turn?

Would be nice if you 1. showed footage from the backup camera 2. explained which rotopax container sizes will fit 3. showed the plate being installed as well, assuming it goes between the mount
@priusoffroad3232
@priusoffroad3232 5 ай бұрын
Hey Jean! 1: Every camera position is different for every model the mount fits so this would be nearly impossible considering its been mounted to everything from Chrysler mini vans to Subaru foresters. If visual obstruction of the backup camera is a primary concern of yours, don't buy it. 2. This is listed in the item description. We even have convenient hyperlinks for those that might not be tech savvy. 3. The customer requested his plate not be shown in the video. But considering all the pictures on our website shown it mounted between the mount and vehicle we figured this was pretty self explanatory. The being said you're welcome to mount it onto of the mount as well. Just like you're welcome to wear your underwear on top of your pants. You jus might get some funny looks from people. :)

@offroad3232 Thanks for your reply. I understand it could be mounted to anything but I was hoping you'd show at least one Prius backup view. I did also see your links to the Rotopax containers but it's to the entire selection. Are you saying this will support 4 gallons (2x2) fully filled?

If I were you guys, I'd consider looking into also making a robust aero kit for those who appreciate better highway mileage. There's a guy in a Hyundai Ioniq who made their own and hypermiled 70-90mpg over hundreds of miles. It should help counter any losses from the extra ride height. Think of a cover for the read wheels, an air damn for the fronts and a smother underside toward tge rear.
