I was a Shunter at Penzance in the 70s/80s and these Class 50s did 1000 miles a day. Pz to Padd, Padd to Swansea, Swansea to Birmingham, Birmingham to Padd, Padd to Pz, arriving around 23.30. Failures were quite rare then.

I live in Boston & these trains still run, the 158s (now in EMR colours) and the waggins, usually with a DBS red class 60 at the front. The shunter is now a blue class 8. I see them regularly because I don’t live too far away from the docks. Sadly the points connecting the sidings to the main track often fail & cause a lot of traffic issues as it did this week because it’s usually ‘school run’ time.

Oh this is a sight to behold & love to see these trains go about their business 🇬🇧👍👏

And then 10 years later it attended the Diesel Gala and it didn't fail. Now painted in NSE livery too.

All those lovely signal's and signal box's gone ? What for they call it progress network rail your destroying our history your new system is rubbish there's more failures now than the old system had one incident in a power box and the hole system shuts down,

I remember i was on the last train that left lincoln for Barnetby on the day of the snows. The service was suspended for just over a week after that. It took over 2 hours to get from Lincoln to Barnetby as the snow was coming down so thick the driver had to proceed at 5mph.

Hopefully we will be seeing a lot more rail freight in the not too distant future. Plans have been passed for a tunnel to be constructed underneath Peterborough to help cope with the expected volume of trains. Doctor Beeching didn't foresee that did he?

I went to Holton Gatehouse literally today - that's a short distance up the line from here. I also got stopped at the barriers here on the way by a class 60 - the 615T from Kingsbury to Humber. At Holton Gatehouse I saw a class 66 on the 6M81 Immingham-Ratcliffe run!

The driver didn't help matters, he really trie to give it some thrash. Geoff Hudson often said that 50 problems were sometimes due to how they were driven.

I prefer the 185s I think the 185s are absolute beasts
