Hey everyone I just played the ecosystem game. I couldn't start the RedRock study game because I had network issues. I followed his advice by selecting the producers with the highest calories provided however, I wasn't able to get a sustainable food chain in that ecosystem. When I realized that a sustainable food chain is most likely impossible in that ecosystem, I had a few minutes left. I just had to quickly choose another food chain in another ecosystem. I didn't have the time to check if it was actually the sustainable one or not. I just had to submit it due to time 😢. Also, I couldn't access the Excel Solver because I didn't have the amount of money to pay for it. I honestly thought it would be free 😞. Nevertheless, I commend Mr Jack’s efforts in making videos like this🫡

Hey Does this mean that the ecosystem B is wrong? In the previous video, you advised using the ecosystem that has producers that provide the highest number of calories Also, is there a particular technique on how to get a sustainable food chain and is it just one sustainable food chain that can be made?
@YOUinConsulting
@YOUinConsulting 5 сағат бұрын
Picking the ecosystem bundle with producers that provide the highest calories still presents the best heuristic and I recommend it, but it is not a perfect predictor. Normally, you should find more than option for building a sustainable food chain, as it also holds true for the scenario in the video 🙂

Ok, So I need help. This is how I did my food chain: For B: emerald seahorse will eat wicket stingray and moon coral, next is Blue sea star, climber crab, greater barracuda and the 3 producers. The total Calorie needed for all theses animals is lesser than 15,600 so it should be working right? That make it sustainable? For C: Rogue clownfish, marble meat worm, velvet mussel, spire swordfish and spiral sea slug followed by the three producers. The total calorie needed for all animals is 13,500 which is exactly the sum of the calorie produced by 3 producers. This case should also be working? Please clarify as I am confused and I don't have anyone to ask

Hi bro! Thank you for your message. The total calories provided provide a clue, but an unsafe one to which ecosystem bundles may produce a sustainable solution. Comparing the total calories provided by the producers and the tital calories needed by the animals does NOT offer you any insights into a possible solution though. From what you write, I believe you have not yet fully understood the food chain rules. I suggest you first watch my previous McKinsey Solve tutorial, in which I take a bit more time to explain the food chain rules: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/at6gladjlp7Xn6c.html Afterwards, come back here 🙂

Hi there! I am afraid there are some issues with your suggestion. With your species selection, Great Barracuda will indeed eat first, but it will eat from Purple Rod Algae, not Blue Sea Star, since Purple Rod Algae at the beginning provides (even) more calories than Blue Sea Star. Afterwards, Silver Haddock will eat. Unfortunately, its only food course in play is Purple Rod Algae, from which it needs to eat. However, Great Barracuda and Silver Haddock's joint food demand exceeds of what Purple Rod Algae provides, so that it dies 😕 Try again! 🙂

My solution for bundle B would be: Great Barracuda - Purple Road Algae , Emerald Seahorse - Moon Coral, Climber Crab - Purple Road Algae, Blue Sea Star - Bronze Sea Grass, Long Sea Bass - Emerald Seahorse
@YOUinConsulting
@YOUinConsulting 2 күн бұрын
Hi! Thank you for spelling out your scenario out. I have checked it for you, this is what would happen: 1. Great Barracuda eats from Purple Rod Algae, whose calories shrink to 2900 calories 2. Then it is however not Emerald Seahorse eating second, as you suggest in your list; Climber Crab provides more calories than Emerald Seahorse. Instead, Climber Crab will eat second, from Moon Coral, whose calories drop to 2350 calories provided. 3. Then it is Blue Sea Star’s turn to eat from Bronze Sea Grass. 4. Emerald Seahorse eats as the fourth animal. Its only food course in play is Moon Coral, who by now unfortunately short of the 2500 calories that Emerald Seahorse needs. It will die. Emerald Seahorse then also dies of hunger, because there is no second food source of it in play. Your selection was a good try! However, you made some mistakes in the eating order in your submission. I suggest you to continue watching the video to fully internalize the food chain & eating rules! Good luck for your test 👍

1:17:01 : if the initial rule around the volume says that it has an impact on the fees, why would it NOT be a possible explanation to allow us to say that it has an impact on the fees ?? Doesn’t make sense
@YOUinConsulting

The table states that "average" trash collection fees are reported. Furthermore, the case briefing says that trash colection fees vary with trash volumes to be collected. Hence, differing levels in the average volume of trash per customer (hence trash collection cost) would be would be reflected in the fees already and such should not be expected to hit profit margins. I agree it's a bit of a convoluted argument. I hope it nevertheless makes sense to you now.

Hi! I have just checked for your submission, this is what is going to happen: 1. Silver Haddock will eat first, from Purple Rod Algae 2. Then it’s Climber Crab, who will munch from Moon Coral, whose calories provided drop to 2350 calories. 3. Little Jellyfish eats from Bronze Sea Grass 4. Emerald Seahorse can eat from Jellyfish or Moon Coral, but at this point Moon Coral still provides more calories. It however is short of 150 calories to still Emerald Seahorse’s hunger and dies. Thank you for sharing your attempt!! I have just checked for you what will happen: 1. As you say, Great Barracuda will eat from Purple Rod Algae 2. However, then it is not Little Jellyfish eating next, as you suggest, but instead Climber Crab has the second-highest calories provided. It will eat from Moon Coral, whose calories provided are reduced to 2350 calories. 3. Little Jellyfish is the third animal to eat, namely from Bronze Sea Grass 4. Emerald Seahorse has all its three food sources in play, but will turn to Moon Coral, which at this point still provided the highest calories provided. Unfortunately, it is 150 calories short of Emerald Seahorse’s calories needed and dies (Emerald Seahorse will continue eating). I believe you drew the wrong conclusion since you confused the eating order. I suggest you to continue watching to fully familiarize yourself with the food chain eating rules 👍

Hi there! The McKinsey Solve game is designed as a black box, ensuring you do not know neither your actual nor your required test result. I am pretty sure that there is a "moving target", i.e., the threshold is stricter during hiring freezes and vice versa during strong hiring seasons. For a good shot, you should have managed to build a sustainable food chain in the ecosystem (i.e., with none of your eight animals dying), and have reached the second Cases part in the Redrock Study. On why and how McKinsey uses its Solve (formerly: Imbellus) test, I explain in my first Solve tutorial video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pb-idNKG3tiqe5s.htmlsi=Rqg1bxJ1JFipQG4N, from minute 02:17

Thank you for the incredibly helpful video on the Arctic Shores assessment! It clarified so much for me and really boosted my confidence. Keep up the great work! I had game called "Balance". I tried to explain better here. Hope it will be helpful to everyone. In the game "Balance," initially there are four tubes: First Tube: Contains various shaped objects. Second Tube: Contains objects that are equivalent in value to the objects in the first tube. Third Tube: Contains different shaped objects. Fourth Tube: Our task is to determine the shapes that are equivalent to those in the third tube. For example: First Tube: 2 star shapes and 1 cube shape. Second Tube: 3 diamond shapes. This shows that 2 stars and 1 cube are equivalent to 3 diamonds. Now, consider the third and fourth tubes: Third Tube: 1 star shape and 2 cube shapes. Fourth Tube: You need to find the equivalent shapes. Based on the previous equivalence, you might determine that: 1 star shape is equivalent to 1.5 diamond shapes (half the value of 2 stars). 2 cube shapes are equivalent to 2 diamond shapes. So, 1 star shape and 2 cube shapes would be equivalent to 1.5 + 2 = 3.5 diamond shapes. As the game progresses, the number of tubes increases. I have encountered up to 8 tubes, where the challenge is to find the answer for the 8th tube.

The balance game had not been there at the time of making of the video. Thank you for breaking it down, even with an example 😉 Your description is very clear. In regards to your example (1 star, 2 cubes and 3 diamonds), I think it is not possible to infer the value of stars and cubes, since it is one equation with three unknowns. just gave the PSG test!!! followed these steps and finished the eco system game in 28-30 mins. I must say watching this video made me understand the game in detail. I started with grouping the producers as per their elevated range and selected the one that produced most calories. However I eliminated it because one of the plant wasn't eaten by any animal and then took the second highest. Afterwards it was straight away. Also looked for eliminators among animals, which made the overall animal list shorter and easier to analyse. Hoping to pass and to reach the case interview round!!

Yes, I think you should try to dig deeper. Main reason is that by now you have very little to lose - you got rejected already. Given that you had a very strong test result, but nevertheless got rejected means that you never had a fair chance of getting in! However, you can inquire what else you should do in regards to your CV / next steps, because theoretically that should be the only reason that McKinsey rejected you without interviewing you (while in truth I believe they just did not have enough positions open, which is why they had to reject highly talented candidates such as you have proven to be).

FYI Group A Depth of 11-20 m is sustainable. I think the heuristic that the most abundant energy producer is the most viable option is similar to thinking that the highest revenue businesses are the most sustainable (which is rarely the case), margins matter here as they do in business. Hi, I don't think your solution works : 1. cylinder "eats" 2. canopy "eats" 3. stout eats from chestnut (chestnuts drops to provided = 100) 4. white sea fern "eats" 5. Brown sea limpet eats from cylinder (cylinder drops to provided = 900) 6. coral caterpillar eats and kills the white sea fern I think A is unsustainable, mainly because it loses too many calories with the white sea fern dying if anyone eats it.
@YOUinConsulting
@YOUinConsulting 9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment and submission. On your first point - the guidance to start with the producer package that provides the most calories together is not a heuristic, but a hypothesis-driven approach. It is not safe, but the best educated guess you can make. Thank you for "hiding" your solution attempt further down in your comment, very smart! 👍 I am afraid your species selection is not sustainable. This is what will happen: 1. Stout Halibut's three food sources all are in play. It would eat from Chestnut Urchin, which remains with 100 cal provided. 2. Then it will be Brown Sea Limpet's turn. It will eat 4400 calories from Cylinder Kelp. 3. Next in line will NOT be Chestnut Urchin as you suggest, since it has now only 100 cal provided left and will be last in the queue. Instead, Coral Caterpillar now is the animal with the third-most calories provided. Given that Cylinder Kelp has already been eaten from, it will turn to White Sea Fern, which is however 100 cal short of Coral Caterpillar's calories needed and will die. I say more about ecosystem bundle A in my free consulting online test prepkit, you can download it here if you are interested: www.youinconsulting.com/newsletter/ Again, thank you for your thoughtful comment, and good luck for your test! 👍

Hi there! Thanks for "submitting your solution" 😉 This one is not covered in the video, so I have checked for you what happens: 1. Great Barracuda eats 1800 cal from Purple Rod Algae 2. Climber Crab eats 2850 cal from Moon Coral 3. Blue Sea Star eats 3300 cal from Bronze Sea Grass At this point, all producers have been eaten from once. 4. Little Jellyfish will turn to the producer among its food sources with the currently highest calories provided. At this point, that would be Bronze Sea Grass with 2400 calories provided remaining. However, Little Jellyfish has a greater hunger of 3400 calories, so would fully consume Bronze Sea Grass, so I am afraid this species combination is not sustainable!

Your suggestion is similar to the one discussed from minute 49:32 of the video, kindly check and compare. The only difference is that Spiral Sea Plug would be in play instead of Spire Swordfish. In this case, still the first three steps would be the very same as shown after 49:32 of the video. Then however, Spiral Sea Slug would eat as the fourth animal, not Spire Swordfish. Spiral Sea Slug can eat from Meadow Weed or Azure coral, both food sources have been eaten from already: Meadow Weed: 1150 cal provided remaining Azure Coral: 2450 cal provided remaining So, Spiral Sea Slug would turn to Azure Coral, but given it needs 2600 cal, it will consume Azure Coral entirely. Hence I am afraid the eight species you selected do not form a sustainable food chain 🙁

Then Silver Haddock will eat second - AGAIN from Purple Rod Algae, since it is its only food source in play. However, at this point Purple Rod Algae has only 2900 calories provided left, which are insufficient to satisfy Silver Haddock's appetite of 3200 calories needed. Purple Rod Algae will die, and the food chain is not sustainable.

I completed the McKinsey Solve Game today! The games I got - Ecosystem Red Rock 1) Ecosystem - Got the mountain terrain Was super difficult, The process I chose was the same - - Select brackets(3) of producers - Eliminate producer brackets, for which even one producer has no consumers. - Then select one bracket from the two left. - Then start filling the animals. - Check which animals satisfy the conditions and which don't. (Calories needed should be 0, Calories provided should not be 0) - If the bracket you selected does not work, move to the other bracket. This approach helped me solve the entire ecosystem. P.S- The first bracket I selected did not work, had to pivot to the other one, with just 10 minutes to go :( Added my final animal at the last minute. This was definitely super stressful. But I think I did well by the end. 2) Red Rock - Investigation phase - Added all data points available - Don't skip on any - Analysis - Go back to the investigation phase whenever needed, do not hesitate to switch - Use the calculator to show that you are active on the screen, avoid calculating on notes, or personal calculator - Drag and drop is time-consuming, I simply typed in the data points. - Report - Was the simplest phase - Pretty straightforward - Please note, that you cannot go back to the investigation phase from the report phase. - Cases - Simply use your math skills - Learn how to do percentage calculations quickly - Read the question twice before attempting, most of the questions are tricky. Can be solved easily. Final remarks - Go through KZfaq videos, multiple times. I used the following links, which was super helpful. - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/at6gladjlp7Xn6c.html - Thank you YOUinConsulting for this valuable resource. If you have the money, purchasing simulations sold by various vendors would be helpful. I did not buy the same. Finally, I am still waiting for the result, will make edits as I get to know.

Hi there, WOW!! Thank you for sharing your experience and breaking down what you have learnt and done! I like to comment on a few items you have mentioned: Ecosystem game: - I am sorry to hear that you got dealt a difficult ecosystem game scenario and that you were short on time to complete it. It is incredibly stressful and not fair - I am glad you managed to spot the traps and took action! I hope you did well! Redrock Study - I don't think it is a good idea to collect all information during research phase. The game wants you to be able to distinguish important from unimportant information - You may also get minus points for flipping back and forth too much - though this is unknown- - Also, use of in-game calculator is recommended. I know it's fiddly, but this way McKinsey can understand your paths to solution These three points relate to the legendary "process score" though, which is talked about a lot and nobody really knows if it's true or just a hoax for scaremongering 😉 The video link you posted leads to this video under which you have put the comment. This video remains important and is fully up-to-date! Just in case you are not aware, I have just published a brandnew follow-up tutorial in which I offer opportunities to PRACTICE the test components 💪🏼 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bs6GeLVpnaubnps.html Yes, the simulations definitely help, and given they come with money-back guarantee making you pay only if you pass, I think the offer is exceptional. You did so well to prepare yourself, and thank you so much for sharing your reflections on here. I truly wish Karma does a good job here and makes you pass! 🙂🚀

You are talking about question 8 of the set of Redrock mock test questions at minute 1:23:40, right? The question asks about employee cost, not number of employees. It does employ 4 environmental specialists versus 8 other members of staff, but nothing is said about whether their salaries are equal or not.

Hi! You can download my free online test prep materials through my newsletter: www.youinconsulting.com/newsletter/ The Excel Solver was designed and is managed by a third-party provider. Did you watch the video until the end? It is explained after minute 52:38. Good luck for your test!

Hello, I think Ecosystem Bundle B works with this combination - Great Barracuda, Climber Crab, Blue sea star, Emerald seahorse, wicked stingray, Bronze Sea Grass, Moon Coral, and Purple Rod Algae. I don't know if I'm making a mistake somewhere though. This is quite stressful but your videos help a whole lot. Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for your suggestion ❤️ This is a good attempt, but I am afraid it won't produce a sustainable food chain: 1. Great Barracuda will eat from Purple Rod Algae 2. Climber Crab will eat from Moon Coral. Moon Coral has 2350 calories left. 3. Blue Sea Star will eat from Bronze Sea Grass 4. Emerald Seahorse will also eat from Moon Coral. Emerald Seahorse requires 2500 calories, but Moon Coral can only provide 2350 calories at this point and is fully consumed (=dies). Do you see it now? 🙂 Well done for diving so deep ahead of your test, this certainly produces a headstart for you 👍🏼

I feel this video is a fraud. I may be wrong though. It is almost impossible to solve for multiple ecosystems in 35 mins without a solver. That means McKinsey will only design game where every ecosystem HAS a solution. This video is just creating fear that one of the ecosystem will not have a solution and we need to buy a solver to be safe. Lastly it is absolute bullshit that you call solver approach a Professional approach. It is a professional approach only if I design that solver by myself and I will do it. Not gonna buy it since that’s borderline cheating not professionalism.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your view. First, to be clear: I am pretty sure that every ecosystem game will have one (and probably more than one) solution. However, it is certainly not guaranteed that each of the three "ecosystem bundles" within an ecosystem game has a solution. In fact, I have recently seen evidence that claims 60% (!) of Solve test candidates were unable to find a solution from the species in the first ecosystem bundle they have tried, and ~10% could not find any solution (though that may also be due to lack of capability). Please send me an email, I am happy to share the source for that information with you. And in my video at minute 1:03:00 I report even a McKinsey colleague of mine who faced the same fate and was unable to solve the ecosystem game! 😮 You are absolutely free to use any auxiliary tool you like, and MS Excel is a good idea of course. I would not be able to build the Excel Solver myself from scratch though, given the solution-finding algorithm behind is complex. If you conclude that the assessment is unfair, then you are right. I already said that in my previous video tutorials on the McKinsey Solve/PSG assessment. Feel free to use any approach you like. I hope, through my videos, you are better prepared mentally for the traps that I am afraid are out there. Your approach is honorable. Be aware though that I regularly receive emails from applicants who want to pay me to take their assessment on their behalf 😮 Some people are willing to do whatever it takes to get into McKinsey, and to those I point out the best (legal!) solution to achieve that goal. This is not to say you cannot pass without the Excel Solver. However, the Excel Solver and the other contents of the professional prepkit make it virtually impossible to fail on the PSG, and the 100% money-backguarantee is very fair. Thanks again for sharing your view, and I wish you good luck for your test! 👍

Hi bro, thanks for your comment! I disagree with you - 95% of the video provide free advice and practice materials (I hope you have watched it until the end!). Be aware that I regularly receive emails from applicants who ask me if I could take their test on their behalf for a fee... For those willing to pay to pass the PSG safely, I indeed inform about the I believe best professional solution out there, which comes with a ~90% success rate and even a 100% money-back guarantee. I also think it is the only Excel Solver out there that is embedded in a proper how-to tutorial. I furthermore regularly receive messages frequently from test-takers who report that they indeed faced very challenging ecosystem game scenarios. McKinsey is a b**** here. Of course you can also pass the PSG with the trial-and-error approach, although you must then rely on the luck to be dealt a favorable ecosystem game scenario. I spent roughly four weeks on this massive 1 hour 40 minutes video tutorial and have tried to make it as useful as possible. Finally, if you download my free online consulting test prepkit, you will find I provide as many free prep resources as I can find, since I indeed do not want to serve the "rich kids", but provide service to all. Have a look at my many other videos on my channel - most of them do not include any "ads", or information on solutions that help to "get in" in a guaranteed manner. I indeed generate most of my income as an independent management adviser from my busienss clients. I appreciate your comment, I hope you appreciate my answer 🙂 Good luck for your test 👍

Hi! I'm afraid McKinsey's Ecosystem Game indeed is confusing. You will usually not identify a correct solution easily. To prepare you for this experience, in this video I guide you through the solution-finding process step by step. If you prefer to first see how a functioning food chain looks like, I suggest you first watch my previous McKinsey Solve game tutorial kzfaq.info/get/bejne/at6gladjlp7Xn6c.html , and then come back here to this video and have a crack yourself 👍 Hope this helps - Jack
