Does it matter if it’s a “trend”? People are going to do whatever they want to do to their hair. I’m getting locs for the look and because my mom had them. She loved them until they started thinning her hairline out.

Black people just can’t accept their hair for what it is. Always doing something to alter it even if it not permed 🙄. Your hair is dryyyyy looking, frizzy, nappy,,,that’s how GOD made it and there is nothing wrong with that. It DOES NOT have a natural shine to it. Accept your damn hair. Poor edges. Black people have come far, but have longgg ways to go to REALLY accept their hair. I said what I said.

I've had my locs for almost 3 years and I'm mad I didn't start them sooner. I played myself for 28 years. 😂 I don't foresee myself ever combing them out, but I do understand why people comb them out. Personally I love how low maintenance they are and I no longer have to plan my hairstyles in advance for certain activities. It's been very freeing for me ♥️

I'm fine with people combing out their locks cuz I'm tired of seeing them. I started mine two and a half years ago And even though I was late to the game I see even more and I hate to say it but the people that I see them on 'give off' a less than positive vibe. I have never ever won extensions I have never ever worn braids I have never ever won a wig so for me locks are absolutely perfect for my 4C hard to manage hair. I feel like I take even better care and attention to my locks than I did my natural hair. I went through all the stages and I'm just fine with it. So all you little fickle kids comb your locks out so I don't look like you and you don't look like me and there's no confusion.

I think there are 2 schools of thought in the loc community, 1) locs are a style and 2) locs are a texture. Because people can change thier hair texture as they please, from 1A to 4C and vice versa, texture has become seen as a style in modern times. So it becomes a trend for some. For others who see texture as a state of being and consider a ponytail a style they may not care as much to transform thier look as often. Its fun for some and a pain for others.

I think ppl also expect their locs to be a certain texture too. The inspos that they look at are usually ppl with looser textures that loc’d up. So when they don’t get that look, they’re disappointed.

People need to do more research. You took them out because they were frizzy, REALLY? And because people made comments about your hair and because they didn't look fully locked. This video makes no sense to me 🤣 Also locs is not a style. OMG

I'm seeing this a month after it was posted. I'm a year into my loc journey, so it's interesting that people are combing it out like this lol Personally, if I ever wanted to get rid of my locs or restart them, I would just grow out the roots and then chop or shave my head (I'm comfortable with having short hair). Combing them out seems like a lot of work and I agree that many people wear locs to have the style and then comb them out after they have grown. I've seen other hair KZfaqrs wear locs as a temporary style while they grow their hair. It's interesting because I don't see locs as a "protective style" it's just my hair lol

I’ve had locs for 14yrs… at year 7 I cut 8inches off. I’m thinking about doing it again because they are HEAVY and it makes my neck hurt! But honestly I love having locs and I don’t think I’ll ever NOT have locs. I do want to comb out and get sister locs when I’m older maybe in my late 40s…. Love the versatility and my kids will be older so I’ll have more time to focus on my hair lol

Locs are beautiful but right now I’m not ready to commit to locs. I love the versatility of my loose natural hair. I usually get faux locs when I get a protective style.

I cut my locs off last November . Had them for 14 years . They were older than my daughter . It was time to release a lot of trauma. My daughter is 12 and recently had me cut hers off too. She hated getting her hair combed but now she wants more freedom . She wanted me to comb them out to retain her length but her hair was not having it . Hair grows back. I had a fade now i got a fro . It’s all love however you wear your hair black women .

Alot of this is rooted in internalized anti blackness. People got locs for the wrong manicured reasons where you only like how they look when they’re “neat” geled and somewhat compatible with a standard of straight hair. Yall comb them out bc you never did the self live work it takes to genuinely love and accept your hair in the texture it grows out your head while living in a society hellbent on reinforcing that it isn’t beautiful.

I would NEVER!!!!! Men all over the world find them, and thus me, so pretty and attractive. Especially white and hispanic men....and european men. They help my dating life very active, especially if you date interracial. In fact, when i go into a store with non blk men, i pull my locks in front to frame my face - the treatment i get is amazing. Those women complaining lacked creativity. So many cute styles in that "ugly" stage that could have set the world on fire.

Man i miss my locs so bad. I hate doing hair because it takes up so much of my time, i just want it to grow and settle, i hate combing. But my mom (Caribbean) HATED it. She said either i comb it out or it get cut out because she not going to raise a girl child with dreads. And of course, i screamed and fought to keep them. Still lost my babies :( I'm going to do it when i'm 18. I feel lucky to not have been exposed to the stigma surrounded my locs because i'm stubborn. I 15 now, 3 more years to go.

In my opinion, most people are just not confident enough to ignore the ignorance of the European mindset. The proof is the fact that many black woman feel their own hair is ugly; so they’re only happy wearing anyone else’s hair but their own. Most won’t go outside with their own hair braided, or without a gel texture style. Anyways, good vid.

So you think that people who were confident enough to get their hair locked in the first place decided to unlock it because they suddenly started hating their hair? Your comment with regard to the topic is nonsensical.

@@prudym1469 I don’t think you have the just of what I’m saying. In my opinion, I can’t relate to combing out your own hair/locs, just to wear someone else’s. I have no issue with someone wearing the hair that they were born with. If my comment didn’t apply to you, then keep it moving.

I started my locs in 2022, and honestly it was kind of an impulsive choice (like you described yours). I started with very short hair & because of that I immediately realized that my journey was going to be exclusive to me only. I think comparing locs is where a lot of people go wrong which causes ppl to want to comb them out once they realize they can’t get “Pinterest locs” in 3 months😭.
@Summer-uq1kq5 ай бұрын
They're called locs, not dreadlocs. There's nothing dreadful about locs. You are a whole Black person, made a video about locs using the racist term to refer to it.

Many people got locs as a trend I’ve had locs way before the trend and honestly the trend is what makes me at times not want them. It’s not a hairstyle I feel like you should just be playing around with. My daughters are also loc’d my 11 year old now wants her combed out because she’s had them since she was 3. I know she will probably want them back eventually because loose natural hair is a lot and she’s an athlete. However the comb out because they didn’t look how you thought is kinda mind blowing to me because the beauty is in the individually of your locs.

Locs have became a trend--because when people started growing out their natural hair they couldn’t take it anymore and started to loc it on a whim, I think that’s why people are combing them out they want to give their natural hair another chance, which doesn’t make sense to me, because if a person isn’t learning how to manage their hair the way it naturally grows--and learn patience--it’s going to be a never-ending pattern of starting locs, combing it out, growing out the fro, big chop, perm and so on. Our texture is here to stay, there’s nothing that will make it easier except understanding.

Yup. All of what you said. I was supposed to get locs 3yrs after my BC. But I realized in that waiting season I had to learn to appreciate my natural loose hair. It took me 10yrs to finally get to the point of locking it. I was going to do it year 9 but I waited and researched what size I wanted how I wanted to do it and to make sure it’s not just me doing it as a trend. From day 1 I knew it was the right thing to do. Even during the “ugly phase” aka frizzy shrinkage phase I still loved it. I honestly have to say I embraced that stage with my locs because I embraced that stage with my loose hair as well. Curly hair is frizzy and it shrinks. 🤷🏽♀️ It’s a should expected and the standard for curly hair. 😂😂😂

I got locs because my hair is thick and hard to manage. Its expensive to pay someone else to do it, especially as often as id like to. So due to neglect, i decided to loc my hair. I THOUGHT itd be lower maintenance. False. After two years i combed them out becaise they started breaking off. Neglected locs has bigger more noticeable consequences than neglected unloced hair. I miss my locs and will get them again when my scheduled allows more down time. The tender head bit is also very true!! I havent been tender headed since elementary 😂😂
