the only part of The Giant's Star that i have a problem with is when Hunt-Dancheker & Company are talking with The Giants about what happened right after Minerva exploded, they just "left" Charlie on the Moon with no explanation that i remember as to why. BTW, Book 4 is Entoverse & Book 5 is Mission To Miverva.

@thebookrapport-cx8kh you can kind of deduce why they left him. They weren't going to spend what resources they had on someone who wad dead/they couldn't help.

This is one of my most favorite books. It also anticipates the current progress being made in using computer vision, x-rays, and AI to interpret old scrolls and similar material that are no longer readable such as with the Vesuvius Challenge. This book is an excellent example of hard SF and I still re-read it every few years.

Wondering how many other KZfaqrs had noticed this change. MDC's channel was great stuff up until about 6-8 months ago. He was making science fiction reviews and talking about books and then he decided he'd rather make mini-documentaries about a bunch of 🐎💩. I assumed it was his desire to be a film actor rather than a book reviewer. When I started watching his channel at the beginning (I was one of his first 500 subscribers), it was called Movie Death Cult and he did mainly movie reviews. Then he transitioned to "media" because I assume he realized book talk was more lucrative. He even used to do "under the stairs" videos showing how many subscribers he had and how much money he was pulling in. At that time it was between $500 to $1,000 a month, which seemed pretty good considering the small footprint his channel had at the time and that he was just talking about books he read. He formed the Science Fiction Alliance and appeared to be expanding the community with other BookTubers (this alliance collapsed when Fit2BRead (who was a member) was arrested for pedophilia last November. He started interviewing science fiction authors. Then he went to Discord. Then he added his Coffee Tips. Then he started hawking merchandise. Then he went to Patreon. And he's finally abandoned KZfaq almost entirely. Removed his old videos, and all his content is behind pay walls on social media. F*ck that guy. I've unsubscribed and stopped watching, besides, all his content was ludicrous at this point anyway. I even trolled him on one of his first mini-docs where he was filming in an abandoned bus. And took me seriously and said he was glad I liked the setting. He's clueless and has sold out at a phenomenal rate. I'm not against monetizing your content, but I do take offense to sh*tting on the people who got you there. Moid is a shill.

The Fantasy Press collection is amazing. So beautiful. A bit out of the price range for my collecting but I’ll be watching for them. I think you suggested that the iconography for Fantasy Press would make a good t-shirt. I’d definitely buy one of those. On another note, what was the one finger salute to The Heritage Foundation about?

@@thebookrapport-cx8kh I wanted to get an independent interpretation of why Elizondo recommended the book. My opinion is the skinwalker ranch analogy. The UAP phenomenon is investigating the ultra terrestrial/interdimensional beings at the ranch, but I could be getting the wrong end of the stick
@thebookrapport-cx8kh
@thebookrapport-cx8kh Ай бұрын
@@poleun9 Totally. I haven't yet found the direct Elizondo context. It seems that it was mentioned in the middle of a podcast interview. Based on this story though, my feeling is that he is suggesting that humans are absolutely powerless to a truly alien threat and we should be open to the notion that there may be an advanced terrestrial intelligence that exists in parallel with us, but doesn't actually regard us with any more importance than bugs.

I have that same Shasta Press copy of The Demolished Man, one of the few books I kept from my old collecting days. I love seeing these old hardbacks, I must keep myself from collecting them though, haha, trying to stick with paperbacks. Fantasy Press was one of my favorites as well as Gnome Press, but those were very hard to come by. Cheers dude.

Fantasy Press Editions are wonderful to have in any collection. Love the background music. It really sets a calm mood. How’re you planning to pack up the books to prevent damage during the move? I’m moving myself in the near term and have some trepidation about packing all my books!
@thebookrapport-cx8kh
@thebookrapport-cx8kh 2 ай бұрын
By the time this video posted, everything has been packed. My biggest advice is do not pack boxes larger than 12x12x12 inches. Any bigger and you're asking for trouble for both the books and your back. The 12 inch boxes also allow for evenly spaced paperbacks. You can place them in alternate directions from each corner, like a pinwheel, and you end up with just a single tiny void in the center. Good luck on your move!

I think that your observation that we really don’t understand our own context is valid and insightful. I’ve never really thought about it as being an unrealistic expectation in a novel.
