Syd Mead and others did such a great job at envisioning our future world. Too bad to bring such things to reality takes so much more than imagination, ink and paper. So much money, technical ability, political will, popular agreement, etc. Then it always takes 10 times longer than originally planned and billions of dollars more due to unforeseen issues.

Plug-in hybrids like the Toyota RAV4 Prime or EVs with internal combustion range extenders like the upcoming Ramcharger electric pickup truck are the way to go for now. They allow you enough battery range to drive locally in 100% electric mode, but also provide 500 miles or more of range using their internal combustion engines. They will provide the best of both worlds until cheaper higher density batteries are available. Unfortunately these EV/ICE hybrids are not cheap.

Daddy the things you point at as the coming future, from cyber trucks, to the electric cars, etc.. are failures. Most everything Musk does is wildly less then what he promised. He’s not even really working toward Mars bases.. just talking about it for PR.

We may advance technologically but the Native Americans were more socially advanced. They have always respected the land, animal species, two-spirit transgender people, the mystical in their vision quests. The healing power of herbs rather than synthetic drugs. What good is advanced tech if there’s still war, famine, homelessness, disease, exploitation, abuse, greed, authoritarian oppression, slavery, all of society’s ills? That isn’t true advancement. Especially when the powers that be want to create a technocratic, digital carbon credit, neuralink, hive borg mind, transhuman, singularity, dystopia robbed of any trace left of humanity or nature!

What about my car, the Citroen XM? I own a dark metallic green Turbo CT. It’s actually a series 2 but I insisted on adding the asymmetrical grille and single spoke steering wheel of the series 1. To make it extra retrofuturistic I also gave it the ultra aerodynamic flat wheelcaps of the (actually cheaper!) Seduction version. Can’t get much more 80ties retrofuturistic but actually available at the time then that, baby! Suggestion: Why not make a video about Bertone, who also styled the XM. To me their almost architectural house style was the ultimate in futurism at the time. I see it resurfacing quite a bit in recent designs, as for instance the Hyundai Ionic 5 or he Fiat Grande Panda electric. Keep up the good work. 👍

China invests time and money in making its tourist cities look perfect. The homeless are removed from sight, protesting is banned, and the government invests in keeping the facade polished. Lots of shiny new skyscrapers to maintain as their economy takes a downturn.... In rural China the old folks still scavenge about, wearing their old Mao pajamas, which is only futuristic if you're into Mad Max. So, the answer is: China LOOKS more futuristic for the same reason North Korea looks idyllic, the government built it that way to make a show to foreigners.... :)

It could have been if corporations like Lockheed Skunks and Boeing and many others released unacknowledged technology to the public. Dr Steven Greer managed to go to Washington and even David Grusch, for serious hearings (with witness protection and everything). History would have been completely different.

I believe that cars have no big future in big cities. Bicycles and a very good public transport network make a city more liveable. Look at some car dependable US cities like L.A. or Houston, it's a traffic mess. You always need more and more lanes to keep up. Also in New York (or New Amsterdam) there are too many cars. While (Old) Amsterdam is more and more a future city where you really don't need a car to get around. It is easier by bicycle and public transport system. It's a city made for people, not cars. ;-)

Oh but central planning has been wrong about most things recently, for most of my life they’ve been pushing solar and wind energy but what’s actually taking the place of coal? Nuclear Power that’s what, we’re on the verge of the second great atomic age and if we can mange the change without starting a useless war then a future of freedom, prosperity, and high tech cars will be achievable for all.

A great look at his art depicting mankind in the future years going to the Moon, Mars and beyond can be found in “Our World In Space” with text by Isaac Asimov. I believe it was published in 1974 and is a great look at us revisiting the Moon in the eighties, and Mars in the 90s and more. One of the pix in this video is actually from that book depicting an underground Moon city. Look for the big lights in a ceiling.
