Please bear in mind that although an indispensable help, AI translation requiresa professional post translation edition (MTPE) especially in the case of artistic/literary film subtitles. The scientific, instructable genre etc. is much simpler linguistically and easier for the AI to process, but in any case for the subtitle translation to be professional never neglect the expert's eye and practical knowledge.

Looks like when there pauses in the audio like a meditation speech, this process doesn't work. It stops translating when there are gaps or long pauses. Maybe Google translater stops recording idk. I increased the speed but same issue

Like most things with openshot you can get about 90% way there. Once you get to that point you can spend forever trying to tune what you want. Very powerful application.

Is there no way to simply just add a .srt subtitles file and then just delay or hasten when it begins showing each caption/text by whatever milliseconds or seconds? I'm not trying to spend literally all day trying to manually type in ...and edit timewise each and every text caption that shows on screen with each subtitle file of a 2 hour long movie.

How can I upload a video with the new subtitles. The file is not recognized and it seems that when I "save" it only saves the subtitles not the video.

Under the "video" menu, chose "generate video with burned in subtitles". Select the resolution of your video. Click generate. Subtitle Edit will automatically add the resolution to the file name so as not to overwrite your originale video.

In order to use Whisper in Subtitle Edit, you first have to install Python on your PC. Here's an install guide: docs.google.com/document/d/17kmDVTSsod4rf8CEKioPcFNAj89j6WX8/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=102331683582601201545&rtpof=true&sd=true I wrote this guide a while ago for someone who wanted to transcribe and autotranslate Hebrew audio files only, so just don't pay attention to that part in the guide. I use Subtitle Edit myself a lot, using the Whisper model will save you an awfull lot of time: the transcription is almost perfect and also the timing of the subtitles is almost perfect. In case you'll decide to uninstall, I think that also all the additional components will be uninstalled. Anyway feel free to contact me: [email protected]

Pressing the plus sign at the top of the captions window helps a lot. Press twice, and it adds the things in the correct format.

The Urdu language is supported by the Whisper voice recognition engine and is also supported by Google translate, so what you have to do is this: First of all update to the latest version of Subtitle Edit: 4.0.3. so that you can use the Whisper engine instead of the Vosk engine. Also you’ll have to download and install Python on our PC. Download from here: www.python.org/downloads/windows/ scroll down to Python 3.10.11 download “windows installer (64-bit) or 32” according to your Windows bit-version. When installing Python make sure that “use admin privileges…” and add python.exe to PATH” are marked! Probably also the latest version of Python will work, but this is the version I use myself and it works. After installing Python open Subtitle Edit go to menu "Video" and open a video or audio file (Urdu spoken) then also in the Video menu click “Audio to Text (Whisper)”, for Engine select “Purfview’s Faster-Whisper” - you will be prompted to download - click OK, after that for Choose Model select “large-v3 (3.1 GB)”, click OK to download. For Choose language, select Urdu, make sure that “Auto adjust timings” is marked. Click Generate. It will take some 2 to 2.5 minutes for every minute of video to get the Urdu transcription and the subtitles. Make sure that before you generate the subtitles in the “Options - Settings” menu specify the max length and max number of lines. This will save you an awful lot of time because the Purfview’s Faster-Whisper engine will give you an almost perfect sync of the subtitles. Check the transcription for errors and correct them. Only now go to “Autotranslate - autotranslate” and select translate from Urdu to English (or any other language). Click Translate and click OK. Mind you that this is a Google translation which is not perfect so you’ll have to make corrections. Good luck!

I tried to follow this guide, step by step, watched multiple times, but this method seems to no longer work. I don't understand why OpenShot makes it so difficult to simply slow a video by 30%. HitFilm Express literally lets you just grab the clip and stretch it to the exact duration you need, but HitFilm is no longer free to use. I am deeply disappointed today.

I appreciate the video, but I could not do this to slow down the video (for a specific exact amount). It just played as normal and put the end frame as a still for the remaining extended time. EDIT: I successfully 'bodged it' I think - I wanted it slowed by a factor of 0.72. I used the 'automatic' function to slow by 0.5 and then used your trick to speed it up slightly to 0.72. Looks like THAT worked it - Thank you

It's the bottom most property in the properties pane at the left. If you don't see this properties pane go to the "View" menu - "Docks" - check mark "properties". I'm aware that there is a little discrepancy between the spoken word in my video and the values that appear on the the screen, e.g 1.509 - the value that appears on the screen is 1.503...
