I'd love to ask you about my situation. I work for a company/ firm in Canada fully remote from South Africa. I have been working in the company for almost two years. I have a set schedule for hours I need to work at a certain time every work day in the week. I get paid a fixed set salary set by the employer en earn commission we are a recruitment and staffing agency. It does not offer pension, or tax deductions or unemployment benefits being deducted. I have to do my own taxes. I only get 10 days vacation a year. No sick leave, no other health benefits, maternity leave or anything else. I have to give a month notice when I want to terminate my contract. And I dont set my hours. So I have to work night times in my side of the world till 9 or 10 at night. I dont get vacation over Christmas. We got 3 days off over December and January together. The wage I receive is above my current country's minimum wage but a way below Canadian minimum wage. But we are only allowed to get statutory public holidays in Canada and not in South Africa. So the employer enforces labour laws to which suits him best between the two countries. Minimum holidays in South Africa are 15 per year. Also no bereavement leave. Me and another colleague had to be at work after a funeral. I attended my grandmother's funeral and then had to be at work later the day. My contract asks 30 hours workweek and in the past I had to work overtime up to 50 hours. When I brought it up for overtime compensation because it's not sustainable. He shoved it off twice. So there is no compensation for overtime worked. Also, there is no indication that you're allowed a lunch break. There is also nothing in the agreement to work more than weekly maximum. So I stopped working overtime since that discussion. I've starting studying again as well. My payslips are also not legit as it does not show any tax numbers or more so I can't apply for loans in my country as it won't be accepted. What would be the right thing to do going forward?

I also always thought that the candians were laid back people, not the kind to go a protest and cause trouble. But the freedom movment started by the truckers when the covid jab was been forced on the population was one of kind. No one else in the world protested like that. It made world news and millilns of dollars was donnated to the cause. That was a heck of a protest. And the proestestors really did endure a lot. It change my mind about the canadians big time, respect, and happy to be here. Particulalrly Alberta, more free thinkers i think.

Annecdotally, the Canadians that I know who left Canada don't leave for education (our schools are decent) but because you can get paid noticeable more outside of the country for equivalent work and the cost of living is generally significantly lower

Another challenging aspect is the difficulty in finding reliable information online for Canada. It seems like uncovering essential guidelines or instructions often leads to only official websites or Reddit threads, leaving little room for other sources.

Finally retired after spending almost 30 years in Canada, so much change since I move here. It was pleasant and people were polie. Now forget it. Try to talk to someone, the favorite word, it’s not your business or F…. You. Also, Now too expensive, cost of living, groceries , telephone, insurance car too high.. it’s only a few examples. An other thing, they always advertise Canada welcome to everyone, it’s It’s a big business, fake news. They bring people for manufactured and security services. People don’t talk each other, you don’t know your neighbour, don’t expect someone will leave the door opened behind you….. Canadian are friendly, not in the big cities. Try to have a discussion about the situation around the world, the conversation is often short and they don’t like to talk about serious things. And most of the time, if you’re not form the same communauté, people won’t talk to you. Too bad but it’s not anymore Canada I used to like……..

Hi. It’s been a long time. Now you live in the City. So things could be a little different. I think you are mistaking the School environment to make friends. You are acting as if it’s the only way. When it is simply one of the ways. Finding a friend at work is not something we do. You can be friendly at work. Help your fellow worker. “Pay it forward”. Yet if you want to make friends. You do so with “extra curricular activities “. (I know school word but fits the best) Basically anything social you find interesting or a pass time or would like to attend regularly. Social activities away from work. Which could range from joining a Team. baseball, chess, backgammon. Whatever. Going to Church. Or volunteering with some group. There’s where you make your friends. Last one not so much. But you get idea. Avoid places where it’s considered “work” to try and make friends. As for banking. I stopped dealing with regular banks years ago. I deal with my local credit union. Have there App. on my phone. Use banking card as pay as you go Mastercard. And use “KOHO”. For anything else I may need credit card for. In conjunction with using E-Transfere. Have had zero reason to go into office for over 5 years. (Paperless all the way). Be well. Hope you both are doing great.

This reminds me of the proverbial iceberg, where what is above the waterline (ie. what is researchable) is visible but 90% lies below the surface and is unknowable without lived experience. Canada is not unique in this regard.

Canada has an obsession with everyone being the same. Schools are more for indoctrination than for education. The smart kids are held back, which really hurts them later in life. The "nerds" were often bullied (meaning physically assaulted) by other kids and the schools did nothing about it. Maybe letting the average (and below-average) kids enforce conformity was their way to keep the "different" ones in line. After finishing your education, if you have a high-paying job or a successful business then you end up making much less than you would in the United States and you are taxed so much that the extra money barely makes a difference. That is why Canada has such a severe shortage of doctors. Canada is for people who are happy with just being average and have no desire to get ahead. Canada is steadily becoming like a communist country during Soviet times. Most countries improved after dumping communism, but Canada decided to move in the opposite direction.

Someone tried to use my Credit card I have to cancel it. The bank has two options either send a new credit card via mail or collect it from the bank. I choose to collect from bank cause it is the fastest way, then I got an email from the bank to come and collect the card but when I arrived to the bank they said my card does not arrive yet and their email system sucked. I used to work in the banking system back in my home country so I am familiar with the system. But when I saw the amount of time the teller took for a just small deposit OMG. This is unacceptable.
@MakeThatChange15 сағат бұрын
the same thing happened to me too! (Anastasia) I thought picking up a credit card from the bank would be faster and easier... turned out they messed something up in the system, and I ended up waiting twice as long, because when I came to the bank they recommended to send it by mail saying it would be "faster"

@@MakeThatChangeI keep my CC locked (in online banking) and only open it when I need it, which is rare. It may sound inconvenient but it’s been years since I experienced CC fraud. The Canadian banking system is among the best in the world. The way we came through the Great Recession in 2008 is testament to this. The US banking system, however, collapsed into chaos.

that's smart to keep the cc locked when you don't use it. As much as we love to hate the Canadian banking system, we really do appreciate alot the fact that it's much more stable and secure than the US

@@MakeThatChange Thailand is also famous for the friendliness of their people, too, which most part of that is just the facade, of course. And most people here often stick to their childhood friends as well. It may seems like we are easily open to making new friend, but to have a deep bond connection isn’t as easily as we appeared to be. And most of the time people tended to avoid serious topics during socializing, too.

The worst mistake is thinking that Canada will adapt to you. You must adapt to Canada. I spoke to a woman from Ukraine yesterday afternoon in Montreal. She has been here for over 2 years, yet speaks only a few words of English and a few words of French. Sad. If I live in Ukraine for the same period of time, I will have learned how to understand, read, write and speak Ukranian.

Keep up the news discouraging immigrants moving to Canada. Diversity has been the destruction of western cultures. Majority of problems are associated with the immigration numbers that are not sustainable. Homelessness, dr shortages, high rents are a direct result of high immigration. Also, correct your misinformation about missing indigenous children. To date, there have been no children found in mass graves. The laser investigation in Kamloops has shown to be result of disturbed earth, etc., and not bodies. Blame the high costs of everything on sock boy Trudeau. Tax and spend Liberal/NDP gov't.

Never comment on someone's weight. I have had several people from other cultures think that is OK. Also, never ever ask or assume a woman is pregnant. Even if you are helping her deliver the baby never mention it. I was a little bloated once and a new Canadian thought it was sweet to mention that it is exciting to see my little baby bump showing. Huge mistake in Canada, huge. Other cultures think these comments are fine, in Canada it is very rude.

The problem is that most immigrants only move to Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. Often, it is also easier and better to find jobs in other places in Canada, depending on your occupational field. You hit the nail on the head at 2:04 min with saying Quebec is "hopelessly fighting" to preserve French. I love Montreal, but it is very misguided at the moment. The way Quebec is handling its French preservation is very flawed which will not obtain the desired result. The Quebec "provincial mindset" is not open to change, and strongly coercive measures try to push anyone different to align the same in Québécois thought, language, and culture. English Canadian culture does not care as much if you assimilate or not. Most people flourish with not being confined and told what to do and not do. This is why most people try to leave dictatorship cultures.
